I love this episode even though it was rushed af compared to the manga. Overall, it was very enjoyable and entertaining. Sisti continually wins my heart tho especially with this episode where we get to see another side of her aside from her normal tsundere mode. Rumia damn, you got nerves of steel my girl! Glenn Radars, you the best MC from all the animes I'm watching this season.
Hope they slow things down a bit tho. They should've done a 24-episode anime if they want to cover until the recent chapter of the manga.
After the action-packed episode 3, it's good to see some old-fashioned comedy and character development. The competition was very entertaining and showed Glenn to be a capable leader, in his own quirky and amusing way. I didn't like, however, that Rumia's secret origin has to be offered in bits and pieces before doing a proper reveal; that's just testing the viewers' patience. To be fair, it allows some meaningful connection between everyone involved (Glenn, Celica, the Queen, etc.). The other bad part was the creepy old count dude, who keeps making advances on Rumia. Fortunately, everyone in the competition agrees the guy is a creep, but the fact somebody thought it would be a good idea to include a character like him is just bad in and of itself. Anyway, hopefully, the next episode will keep up this level of quality.
Very good episode. They pack both comedy and action in one episode perfectly. A little rush compare to the manga, but all the important stuffs is still there.
I hope the keep up the quality like this.
Another great episode ;)
That moment when sensei tries to motivate everyone because he is hungry but suddenly they are doing right and he is like "i knew since the beginning" hahaha
Rumia's face reminds me soooo much Raphiel from Gabriel Dropout, they both have similar face expressions xD And we can clearly see it in this episode.
"There is no such thing as an Anime elitist. You watch Anime, therefore, you are trash by society's standards."
Was really interresting and funny episode. :P
Cant wait for next week. :3
I really ask me, when the blue haired girl and the other male charackter comes to anime?
Anyone else feel like the entire episode was playing at 1.1-1.3x speed? I just have that feeling that conversations are way too fast, and the cuts between conversations are split seconds right after they stop talking. I know that they want to fit in a crap ton of information in 12 episodes, but it really is going too fast, at least the way I see it.
This anime is pure enjoyment! I love Glenn's character and his relationship with Sisti has me busting up laughing every week! This was a really fun episode the competition is a fun idea and it's nice to see Glenn taking such an interest in his students even if he says he's only doing it for the money you can tell he genuinely cares about his students. It's amazing how fast he went from I don't give a sh*t to being invested as a teacher! I can't wait to see the conclusion to the magic competition and the development of the story around the queen and Rumia and the backstory that led to where they are now
I shall rule over the realms of anime and manga! Mwahhahahahaha!!!
I'm starting to really enjoy this series more now that Sisti is warming up to Glenn and not being such a hard ass. I think I'm becoming a fan of hers now but time will tell I suppose. She does have the best chemistry with Glenn so maybe I'll like her down the line. For now, she's still bugs me a little but don't mistake that for hate.
Rumia is great. Despite seeing her mother not wear the pendant she didn't falter in her portion of the competition. Rather than impress her mother with her strong will, she wanted to win it for her class. Through out the episode I thought she was gonna go the route in impressing someone who abandoned her but I'm glad she took a different route. I was starting to be a fan of hers and now I definitely like her a lot.
I'm starting to get the same vibes I got from Vash the Stampede from Trigun in Glenn Sensei and that's a good thing. He's charismatic and has an interesting past that I want to know more of.
Still 4/5 but my feelings from last ep hasn't changed. They cut a LOT of minor scenes, some of those scenes was what made some of Glen's students stand out. Others say the anime plans to adapt Volume 4 and here I am terrified because of the OP w/c reaches to volume 5.
Pros
- The start of Lumia arc
- Glen's class formally introduced
- Lumia understands Glen so much
- In the manga, the other students complained when Lumia was forced to forfeit. In my eyes, it showed that they just wanted to see if she could win (but couldn’t bear the responsibility of a comatose girl)
- Not sure how I feel about Sisti’s parents early intro but I guess they plan to skip the parent’s day at school chapter? Still 2 MILF moms.
- And finally, the 2 better "side/will get updated to main" characters are introduced
Riel, the Chariot and Albert, the Star(Note: Albeeeeeeeeeeeeeeert (insert hearts and awaits Voulme 3 bromance).
and my 2nd-4th most favorite pairing in the series will probably happen next ep, can't wait!
Cons (I will discuss the cut out material without putting a spoiler tag since the anime already skipped these scenes, some of those scenes will be me nitpicking again, so please ignore it if you're not interested or will somehow get offended)
A lot of scenes were cut
- The Celica and Glen scene was reduced to Glen begging but in the novel and manga, Celica at least tried to burn him for lying to her about "The extinction of man."(basically what Glen means to those who don't understand, him dying of starvation would end his line of genes)
- and the novel also mentions why Glen was desperate for food, other than him being broke, Celica locked her fridge with a high quality barrier of some sorts and she wants him to pay for his own food since his rent at her home is already free and he has a job.
- Reason why Glen was bankrupt despite getting his salary a week ago: gambling
- Glen's half-evil grin was reduced to him turning his back instead of half-shocked, half evil grin in his head (his huh? scene when Gibel asked a better way to win). The reason I’m complaining this is because his reaction/face made him look like an actual bastard
- Glen's fabulous laugh while taunting Harry was also removed
- the already short training scenes were shortened, having no dialogue whatsoever and we have the students thanking Sensei without explanation on how they won because of his advice (except flying race and mental defense)
- The head of the knights knowing Lumia's identity. (For me, I wasn't really sure if he knew Lumia's identity in the manga and LN, but for me, if he knows her,
then him attempting to kill her without another alternative makes him look like an idiot, (basically he chose the queen instead of a potential heir, once Lumia's business being a damsel and distress and the killings of Amplifiers are over
but I guess I’ll wait to check
- Hero’s (yes, we know who it is but spoilers) past outfit was better in the manga and his scene with Lumia was more intense in the ln (basically pushing her up to the ground, at least that’s what I saw/remember)
- Glen’s economizing mode was cut off
- Baron/Count's tongue scenes were extended yet they removed one of his illusion spells, Phantasmal force. Oh and Charm Mind I believe should’ve also had some background contestant confess to Baron/Count. And also, Baron’s Mind Break should’ve explained it was capable of making a person have a coma for at least 3 days and the baron suggests they leave all of Lumia’s recovery to him and then we were supposed to have the comment, “What about Jaill-kun? (On a random note, Baron’s rank as a mage is 6)
- The queen’s dialogue was shortened (but they followed manga route) and removed her suspicion about Lumia's feelings for Glen as well as subtly giving her blessing (at ln, she mentioned she wanted to see her on her wedding day and the conversation then headed on that realization). This was after Lumia’s match.
- Riel’s intro was better in the manga, it would’ve made the viewer’s think even harder if they were friend or foe on this arc
- The reason why the queen switched pendants was somewhat important. It was reduced to make it even more dramatic to Lumia.
- Minor note, but Lumia staggered but didn't really fall down her knees
Long post, so sorry. Still, 4/5 coz I love the source material. Once again, sorry for any mistakes in spellings and grammar.

Really funny the count and the family of Sistine. XD
I would have expected that from one moment to the next, there would be dramatic background strokes, but rather all the narrative, it had for most of the time, only really comical and nice moments. Time has flown during the viewing of this episode, I'm sorry it ended up on the nicest. Opening and ending, was very catchy. Cute short at the end of the episode.
See, this is why I never show off in anything important. When you make yourself look good or do something that gives others hope in you, they start to expect things. Dude saved the entire school so now everyone has forgotten how crappy he is. Also the Count. What a guy, not afraid to speak his mind at all. And while I find some of the names here a bit weird, I'm kind of bugged by how the big buff black dude's name is Jaill.
Only problem I had with this. This was really dang quick, like they had too much stuff to work with and cut away at tons of stuff while cramming everything together. And now just this episode, some previous ones too, feels like things are being left out due to time constraints. Will make sure to read the manga at some point.
I for one am glad that they rushed through the tournament segment as it looks really boring, I wouldn't want another situation like in Mahouka where they spend 4-5 episodes on the same mind numbing crap.
Trizept said: Is it just me, or do I feel like the pacing on this episode went by rather fast..
Sensei's reasoning in wanting to win the competition is just like his character.
But jesus, he went starving for 3 straight months?????
Ahh.. I forgot to add this to my post but I believe Sensei survived his predicament by eating some berries and twigs in the school garden (or something like that. It was mentioned in the manga but it may have been treated as a joke.)

hmm... 3/5. I got scared for a second when Glen walked into the room and started to be productive, but then it was revealed that he was doing it for food. However, I don't like that his students are seeing him in this bright of a positive light... The mind break professor and the head master deciding to fire him made me chuckle though.
Did i just watched a Mahouka!? lolz
Glenn didn't expect that Class 1 is doing so well! even Rumia won on the Mental Defense Competition!
Is that the biological mom of Rumia?
What's-up with the abandon child thing? Internal family feud!?
4/5.
They explained Lumia's situations already. But to make it simple royal family can rule because of "god's will", but amplifier she posses is huge heresy and if it got out legitimacy of whole thing would crumble like house of cards.
Sisti was so cute this episode <3 Her parents pretty funny too.
Dammit Glenn why you're wavering xD
Hope Rumia's mother will actually meet her, the secret's out anyway I believe.
What a pervy teacher, at least he gets fired haha.
Was nice to see Rumia winning, thought she actually lost there for a second.
Finally get to see that new girl ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I wonder who's plotting to kill Rumia. Glad that Glenn saved her, though still wondering if the two was his acquaintance, lmao, attacking Glenn, wanna see his hilarious reaction. That blue heard girl was so adorable, pulling her hair by the other guy.
If Glenn wins the bet... assuming the other teacher earns more...
I'm glad they didn't waste an entire episode on "preparing" for the competition and instead got right into it.
LOL that dude was out cold, yet still standing.
Rumia is too nice.
Oh my gosh I wonder who is gonna win the tournament!!?? (obvious sarcasm is way too obvious)
“I love heroes, but I don't want to be one. Do you even know what a hero is!? For example, you have some meat. Pirates will feast on the meat, but the hero will distribute it among the people! I want to eat the meat!” - Monkey D. Luffy
Quite a nice start of this "school tournament" with also some great development in terms of character, didn't expect such a relationship to be honest! Looking forwards to see what's next.
A pervy hpnosis teacher gets super creepy...and the principal, mortified, suggests he they fire the perv. I almost died larfing roflolmfao.
PLus it seems more and more this shows almost a cross between legend of the legendary heroes, zero no tsukaima, and some parts of harry potter. That being said...I like it.
