I don't think i've hated a MC enough to make me drop a show, but sometimes they can be the reason for me to lower it's score.

MC's i had some mixed feelings about or don't like are: Subaru (Re:Zero), Izuku (Boku No Hero Academia), Saitama (One Punch Man). There's probably more but those are at the top of my head.

Edit: Also Tatsuya (Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei) and Inaho (Aldnoah.Zero)

Probably nothing. Actually, i dont have the time to watch or read too much. So if the mc on the show doesnt seem likeable in my eyes, i just drop. Using time efficiently while watching or reading. There is no point in wasting time on something i dont really like.

I prefer not to drop an anime just because I hate the MC.

The only MC that's made my blood boil so far was Makoto Itou. He was a complete dumbass, but that didn't ruin the anime as a whole.

Good stories require opposite characters in order to develop gratefully. So characters that might get disliked are absolutely needed. I would never drop a good story because I dislike a character; because she/he is there for a reason.

Yea that is my conclusion .. I don't think there would be anything to complain about if you were actually better than Subaru , I can only imagine this being said by an incompetent who did not accomplish anything in life..

lolol but I am better than Subaru, so stop making assumptions about me~

Honestly, I don't care if Subaru is your favourite character. That doesn't mean I'm not allowed to form my own opinions about him.
I have no idea why you're putting him on such a high pedestal, because he's definitely not perfect. If he didn't mess up at all (like he did so many times), then this anime would be over in a heartbeat.

However, I would have been able to tolerate all his mess-ups if it wasn't for the fact that Subaru is simply an annoying character. He tries too hard to make jokes (not once did I laugh at his attempts to be "funny") and makes baseless insults. Just because other characters refuse to comply to Subaru's wishes, that doesn't mean he has the right to make judgments about their moral compass and talk bad about them. I mean, Subaru is so focused on protecting Emilia that he doesn't even realise that other characters, such as Crusch, might even have *gasp* different life goals.

Secondly, Subaru can be so incredibly dense and slow. At times, his brain can't seem to analyse situations and make connections between certain events and characters. This was made evident in the first two episodes, where he didn't even realise Elsa was the person who killed him and Emilia in the original timeline. Another dumb move on his behalf was insulting the title of "knight" in the same room where said people are congregating. He doesn't know when to back down, as exemplified when he picks a fight with Julius multiple times throughout the series (and gets his ass handed to him haha), which really says something about Subaru's arrogance.

Not to mention the fact that he repeatedly broke his promises to Emilia. His EQ is so pathetically low that he can't even empathize with Emilia's distress over how strange and inconsistent he's acting, nor does he attempt to understand the values and beliefs of other characters when their mindsets don't align with his. The only thing he does is point and go like "YOU SO HORRIBLE AND SELFISH BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT TO PROTECT EMILIA."

And you wonder why a lot of people flat-out don't like Subaru. As for myself, I might have even enjoyed this series if it wasn't for the fact that Subaru irked me so much. The only time where I was able to stand him was that episode where he (finally) admitted to having flaws. Still doesn't negate the fact that he was an arrogant, dumb prick for three-quarters of the anime's entire duration.

KazuroWeisemann said:

Also its not mine or the anime's fault you were not able to uncover the deeper aspects and hidden meaning behind events in the anime ..

If that's the case, do enlighten me as to what "deeper aspects and hidden meanings" you are referring to.

KazuroWeisemann said:

The only thing for the hate I sense from you is that either your 'Best girl' got rejected , Or you are one of the type that hates on Popular anime , Or you just don't judge anime properly , Or the very slight chance you did not enjoy it for whatever reason..

1) I don't care who ends up up with Subaru, because I pity the poor girl who does; 2) highly doubt that, because there are plenty of popular anime that I like; 3) right, because "properly" is such an objective term in regard to "judging" anime; 4) change that "slight" to a "good" and then that'll be the answer you're looking for ^^

"What would make you continue watching an anime with a main character you absolutely hated?"

As I said before, I never dropped an anime, and I don't even hate any character, but I guess I would drop, only If the whole show (story/plot, other characters, etcetera...) simply were awful in every aspect.

So, the main reasons I continue watching a show even with annoying main characters, normally are: that cool, lovely, beautiful, cute or badass character that follows the pathetic mc.
The story, plot, animation, sound, and so on...
Basically, I focus on the qualities of the show in question, and try to ignore the imperfections.

If it has other characters that carry the show. The main Mc in terra e is awful but the side MC is much better and has more depth behind his motivations.

well this is honestly a different question then before. rofl. The character I would say I dislike and I have said before is still Mikado from drrr. Who was a lazy ass for three seasons and then decided to go crazy and in which cause the anime to give him more screen time.... I would only continue watching DRRR if I actually find the love for the side characters again... I do feel a spark for Kida (actually am I remembering right?)but there would be more screen time for him due to the recent events, so maybe.

Well if I didn't like the MC, the show would have to have other characters that I like in order for me to continue it. Like Durarara is a good example for me, because I don't like Mikado, but I love most of the other characters like Shizuo, Celty, Kyouhei, Varona, Erika, etc.

I agree with yuno and that yuki guy being super annoying but i watch it for the sake of the story.

The same goes to bokura ga ita. Both the MC are very irritating. The story too is totally crap but maybe it's just me because romance is not my thing. I forced myself to continue watching it because of the rating is quite high and many people said it's good. I kinda hope for miracles to happen.

All in all,the things that make me continue watching an anime eventhough the MC is hated is just because of the story and the rating.

I remember I couldn't complete golden time when it was being aired, both main characters were so needy it was uneasy for me to let the plot start to develop. Dropped it around episode 10, didn't drop it before because I was a bit curious about male MC's condition, but once the ghost thing started I just dropped it.

I guess I had my brain turned off first time I watched NGE. I say this because when I rewatched it for kicks I started to loathe Shinji in ways I haven't hated a anime character. Holy crap, most pusillanimous character ever. Didn't drop it because I recapitulating to be able to understand the movie.

It would either have to have a killer cast minus the MC like Seven deadly Sins; or be one of those setups where the show really doesn't focus on one guy most of the time.
If its one of those it has the chance of not getting dropped.

The worst main characters tend to be from shonens, but these types of shows usually have a vast cast of side characters who are much more interesting than the MC so I am able to keep watching.

Closest I came to dropping a series because of the MC was Fate/Stay Night... Shiro is incredibly annoying.

What's the difference?

eventhough the MC isnt likeable, atleast there's a good aspect in that anime which prevent me to drop it. for example, NGE has uninteresting MC-kun, and noisy main girl. but still, it's enjoyable because i likes to see the characters suffer in there o_O

Why do you hate these characters so? Is it because they're needy or because they portrayed these qualities in a bad way?

If the anime has at least decent artwork, story, or other likable characters then those would keep me from dropping it.

If not...well....that's how I dropped Shimoneta. I absolutely despise the female MC so much that I want to kick her face, the other things are just meh

The same can be said to Konosuba, although what I hate is the supporting girl

It depends how much I like the plot and other characters tbh...if they annoy me that much I'll just end up dropping the anime.
I'm one of those that finds characters more engaging than plot, so if I'm spending an entire series watching a bunch of characters do stuff, then I need to actually like them in some way to continue with it.
Especially if said character is a driving force in the anime!

I dropped Haikyuu because I couldn't stand either of the two main characters...the same applied to Kuroko no Basuke as well, although I gave up much later bc I liked the rest of the supporting cast. I can't pinpoint exactly why these characters irked me so much, but they just did.

I guess the exception would be Inuyasha because I could not stand his Tsundere ass as the MC, yet still continued on because I actually liked Kagome. I still to this day wished Sesshomaru would've been the protagonist or at least got some sort of spin off =_=

I also loathed Mikado from Durarara and slowly came to despise Kida as well. Luckily for me, everyone gets the spotlight in Durarara and the main characters disappear for episodes on end so they don't really feel "main" at all a lot of the time.

Even if I hate the main character of an anime, no drop policy aside, there are still other things who can make the series enjoyable even if I dislike the protagonist, like the side characters (who I tend to enjoy more than the main characters in most of cases).

Also I never dropped a thing, so it's either I stay for the music or the story itself if the character isn't up to my liking. But I wonder when it was the last time this happened.

The whole premise of the story somewhat relies on him fucking up a lot of times. He's also already used to fantasy settings which is why he didn't freak out or assume he was under the influence. Normal people would think they were dreaming or on drugs, but the very fact that he naturally assumed he had been teleported to an alternate universe by someone who wanted him there says a lot about his personality. I doubt the series would even last 25 episodes if he was more competent.

I know right? Those bs repetition happening in there -_- just ugh!

If I found those kind of anime with annoying mc imo, but I completed it, maybe its because I just want to know how is the ending.
