I know theres a crap load of fashion styles (edo-era, sci-fi, mecha, modern-day, eruopean, etc.)

For me, even though i love the skimpy one/two piece outfits of godannar or skimpy school girl clothing of ikki tousen, but i prefer modern day style of clothing. Stuff that i could actually wear and not be ashamed to wear or be called an otaku or something. Bleach has a very modern style and Tite Kubo seems to draw up a new outfit for every character in each chapter of the manga specifically Chad and Inoue's clothing. Speed grapher and Death note also has a really good clothing set IMO but im not gonna waste any more of your time! Start typing!

also, just started watching Air Gear after work last night, i gotta say KICK A**!! I just really like their outfits so much i went and scooped up the first 4 mangas (@ $10/ea ACK!) this morning! And like bleach, Ito Oogure (aka Oh!Great) really likes to make a crapload of different outfits for each character.

I guess it will always depend on the anime concept. Whe can't expect somone from Berserk character to wear a collar shirt and trousers.
Personally actually like to see unusual outfits. Original ones, that I haven't cross my eyes with over and over. I don't really imagine myself on them, I just want them to appeal my attetion.
E.g. Tohsaka's outfit is a favourite, and also Archer's

I loved most of fate's outfit's except for the main character.
Hikaru no Go, shows a lot of outfits, main characters swap clothes lots of times. Using styles that an average teenager would wear...
I love how Oda manages to come up with a eccentric/cool/unique outfit for every new character... I can't really pick one.

Nayuki from Kanon is always wearing something awesome. Mikuru from Haruhi Suzumiya is always wearing various modes of moe (combat waitress, bunny suit, frog costume, seifuku, etc). Anything from Kyoto Animation displays good fashion sense. XD

other than KyoAni, I know Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha has awesome costumes and stuff. And of course the Cardcaptor Sakura outfits from every episode.

Yeah, I definitely like Clamps styling especially Card Captor Sakura. I also liked Yuuko's style in xxxHOLiC. In addition, I really like Bleach's urban look, especially from all the scans. The girls from Shuffle also had some good style as well. But I'd have to say my favourite character's style was Eve from Black Cat, since she had a myriad of various outfits. Hmmm, I also generally like those various flight/mech suits :P.

I love most of the clothes in CLAMP anime/manga, especially xxxHOLiC and Tsubasa Chronicle (tsubasa especially, since every time they travel to a new world they get more cool clothes ^_^). Also, Nana has some awesome style. I constantly find myself thinking, "gee, I wish I had something like that..." (even though their clothes would look ridiculous on me...*sigh*) and also Death Note. Misa's clothes are adorable!
Bleach has some style too. Though with bleach, I think it's the guys who seem to have the better clothes (hell, even I want some of Ichigo's outfits.....)
Another memorable outfit is the coat and skirt Otonashi Saaya wore in Blood+. I just fell in love with it.....(it was the boots ^_^)

Red Garden displays a pretty unique fashion sense. Even though it's set in New York the girls wear pretty quirky clothes, which look good. I often find myself looking at their clothes and admiring them instead of concentrating on the plot.

Peach Girl emphasizes fashion a lot. Though I can't really remember many of the clothes the characters wore and I can't find any pictures of the anime. I can't really think of a series which involves clothing in the story as much as Peach Girl.

Personally, I think Paradise Kiss had a nice array of clothing considering it was aimed towards fashion of modern Japan. Always adored the outfits in Ah! My Goddess personally, I don't know about you but Belldandy's constant change or both personal clothing and comfort style always seemed appealing. A bit of Gundam Seed, more so fashion wise with Gundam Seed Destiny though. Besides that, there's nothing else I can think of.

As for the WORST fashion style -those are easier to remember- that I've ever seen in anime, the boys school uniforms in Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo.

I'm surprised NANA hasn't been mentioned yet. (and I assume Paradise Kiss belongs just by their relation, though I haven't seen it yet)

Also, I think Bleach has a pretty good sense of style, but it doesn't show up much in the actual anime - moreso in the openings/endings and manga covers and extras and such.

One Piece has good style, though not so much in the earlier episodes. Baccano is very stylish too, especially if you're into the whole prohibition gangster motif. And Samurai Champloo has a cool hip-hop-meets-ancient-Japan thing going that sometimes surfaces in fashion and not just music. And xxxHOLIC and Tsubasa Chronicle certainly deserve to be mentioned, even just for Yuuko.

Others that might be worth mentioning: Eureka Seven, Lovely Complex... maybe a few more that I'm not remembering at present...

I love Escaflowne's fashion design. It has a great variety of apparel, from Dilandau's stylish black uniform to the nobles clothes of Allen, passing by Merle and Mr. Mole. :D

Paradise Kiss is definitely up there for a high fashion look. But for day to day more... normal-ish looking clothes, I really liked how people in Lovely Complex dressed. I even liked their casual varsity-look school uniforms better than the traditional blazer type uniforms.

Thread over? Hardly. I'm absolutely shocked that no one has said the one that jumped straight to mind for me; the goth loli battle royale that is Rozen Maiden. The doll clothes... were... GORGEOUS!!!

Runner-ups for me are Super Gals!, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (barrier jackets FTW, especially in the case of the Knights), and Blood+ (Riku after Ep. 24... most handsome shota ever)

heck yeah.

Other fashion styles that stood out to me were the ones in Air Gear, Bleach, and the Negima manga (whenever they were wearing something other than their school uniforms).

And I also like the fashion style of the Genshiken characters in this pic, though they never actually dress like that in the anime. xD

I agree with Paradise Kiss. The character's clothes show different kinds of trends. George, Yukari and Isabella are more European in style, while Arashi is punk and Miwako is lolita. I like the clothes in Nana better though, cause it's more current.

I also like Red Garden, cause their clothes remind me of Sex and the City, specially Rachel's. I really like what she wore in the last episode.

And of course, Lovely Complex. The clothes are so trendy, even their uniforms.

I do agree there - the designs for the Arrancar (and particularly for Aizen and Gin) are just awesome.

Also, I have to second the general opinion on Paradise Kiss - just started watching it tonight, and it's extremely stylish. I'm more fond of NANA still too, but it's definitely up there.

Tsubasa Chronicle was pretty well done in how it kept changing the clothing styles throughout, and giving a wide variety of styles depending on what world they were in.

And then there's Rozen Maiden which has a fantastic gothic collection going on, not to mention the adorable characters that sit in them. Suigintou, Shinku, and Souseiseki would probably have to be my favorites there.

Mmmm... Sky Girls... yea, you know the outfits I'm talking about. Classy. ^_^

To Heart gets an honorable mention for fashion, since it's school uniform seems to be one of the most recognizable of any anime. Don't ask why, a lot of people haven't even seen the show, but for some reason, everyone recognizes the uniform. It's so popular, it even found it's way into Lucky Star and countless other anime parodies.

This is the uniform if you have no idea what I'm talking about, from a Lucky Star clip:
