I kinda liked the way this case is going mostly because of the stakes being raised now that more important characters entered the story.

That superhero guy's gimmick still gave me the weird vibes.

Meanwhile, he does have an important role in the case including providing a key to Naruhodou. Naruhodou could make a break in this case soon but it won't be easy. That Otoro revelation though :O

Poor Mayoi. All she wants is to eat her favourite meals.

Kirio refusing to testify.

Otoro revealing his true self & he is working with De Killer.

Does the sub made some mistake again? With that Miso"Burger"? Oh well
So Mei is already know about the card and "manipulating" Kirio or so with that word of her, that make her won't testify?

Oh come on, Mayoi-chan. Like that will work. Oh wait, it IS work. LOL

That was fast, but considering they only have 4 episode it's kinda expected
They have balls to show psyche-locks breaking even without Magatama? not sure how to feel
The Judge's reaction to the dangerous ray gun is funny lol.
Noodle burger, miso burger, the sub's consistency with Japanifornia is Amazing

Miso burgers, every time.
Didn't think it would happen in this episode, but one of the best moments in the series just happened, I remember I was so surprised while playing the game when Matt revealed that he's the one who hired DeKiller, I kept coming up with excuses in my head for the asshole too about how he's not really affiliated with DeKiller, Obviously anyone would expect Matt to be hiding some info from Naruhodo like every other defendant but for him to be he bad guy? Never would have seen it coming after having several cases of poor innocent little defendants, the magatama also helped hide his identity, it's a nice change of pace, hoping to see more bad guys defendants in the future.
Nice effect with the magatama locks breaking behind Matt, too bad they didn't include the magatama in the anime.
It's gonna be interesting to see how Naruhodo reacts now that he's defending a guilty defendant.

Ratatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatat.....

Oldbag did that for quite long this episode, and it is hilarious every time she did it. She has to be the best witness to grace the courtroom, no objections.

Now, we need someone who had yet to play the games to testify on how exactly they felt about the lock-breaking scene.

2 episodes left... and the show is going a bit too fast IMO, but next episode is not the end of the trial according to the name of the episode.

Be prepared for more Wright - Edgeworth teamwork in the courtroom, which is freaking awesome.

The discovery that Matt hired De Killer sure felt a lot less impactful than it did in the game. And why show the Psyche Locks breaking when they didn't ever show them before up until this point? It's pointless.

It's not a mistake. In the original Japanese version of the game, Maya's (Mayoi) favorite food was ramen, but it was changed to burgers in the American release of the games in an attempt to make it take place in America. The subs are going along with it (and seem to be doing so in a joking matter with the way they're still keeping "miso" in there sometimes).

Of course this causes problems in the fourth game where the guy who runs the noodle stand Maya/Mayoi likes appears as a character and of course this isn't mentioned in the English version of the game.

Eat your burgers, Apollo.

Not too bothered with the sudden emergence of psyche-locks. Even without the magatama, it's still an apparent metaphor for a secret getting exposed.

Probably the best part of the adaptation. Helps that this is one of the better cases. The trial flowed well so far. I agree the reveal was pretty unimpactful, but that's always been par for the course in the animation.

Oh okay, so that's why the subs are different with the voice. I don't play game the game though, so I don't really know. And here I thought the only "subs different from the voice" part is Reiji's western name. LOL
Well, thank you for the info. :)

This "miso burger" thing needs to stop. Choose one or the other, please. Now I'm wondering what a miso burger would taste like.

Wow so Engarde was the one who hired De Killer. I'll admit I didn't see that coming.

I still think they had legit ways to introduce the magatama in a diferrent way that the game did...I'm concerned about this because if they ever adapt Trials and Tripulations in the future, they won't be able to run from the magatama powers forever, I don't know how they would do the final case without the magatama powers in action...

Shoutouts to the magatama locks breaking when Engarde revealed his true self. I guess that's gunna be as close as we get to it being mentioned.

We'll see. So far they've done fine without it and from what I remember, the magatama was pretty important in this case as well.

Also, has anyone been playing the new Phoenix Wright game? I just started it yesterday and the new element for solving cases (the Seances and Insight) is really damn cool. Psyched to play the other cases with that bit.

Overall I think this episode had some good moments and some bad moments.
The pacing in the trial was (as usual) really weird. Everything just kinda... Happens. And then it's over. I mean in the original, getting Adrian to crack was one of the hardest parts in that trial, and that's even before she refuses to testify! Here she just kinda bends over.
They also didn't see Franzy at the hospital which I didn't like. That scene's pretty essential to establish one context to another scene I hope they don't take out. That being said, I did like Engrade's reveal, it was quite suspenseful and I also liked the breaking psyche-locks, even if it made absolutely no sense in context.

Those hamburger jokes will never end...

Some pacing issues this episode, to be frank I wished they slowed down for the reveal, the build up to that scene was lacking.

Possibly the worst paced episode in the series so far. Everything went by waaaaay too fast.

I still can't get past this court logic...
"He's clearly innocent, but as long as we don't find the real culprit, we'll convict him anyway."
Finally Naruhodo has a client who's actually guilty. What do now?

Blame the game system. Games are about winning or losing, and to make it not so easy to win, your clients are always guilty until you get them convicted, despite the fact that they have zero motive to kill the victim (most notably the second case where Mayoi is accused of murdering her sister).

Yeah, they should've introduced it before Phoenix ask "did you kill him" as in the games. That would've impact more strong

Interesting case, sure. But the circus case had more entertaining and likable characters (even the fucking culprit) and was well paced.

Doesn't mean this is bad though, i'm liking this as well.

I was enjoying the anime from the 3rd case all the way to 2-3. But this one just seems to lose every impact and tension... It's extremely rushed even by this anime's standards. They seemed to want to focus more on the drama with Maya and Phoenix, which is making him look a lot more sensitive than his game counterpart if you ask me... On top of wasting time.

That's not even the only problem with the subtitles.

There are 2 versions as you already know. One which uses the localized names and one which doesn't.

The problem is even the alternative subs are a mess. They only use SOME of the original script. For instance "De Killer" is supposed to be Koroshiya, but they kept it in there. There's also "Steel Samurai" being used instead of Tonosaman. Even worse in this case since there's no such thing as "Nickel" Samurai in the original. It's still Tonosaman. The "Neo Olde Tokyo" stuff also should only have been in the Subs A, since the original is just "Oedo" (Big Edo).

It kinda makes the whole point of having alternate subs very pointless. I'm guessing the person doing the subtitles B doesn't even have that big of a grasp in japanese at all and just thought changing the localized names of the main cast to the japanese ones was a great job...

i actually think the story in this case is pretty interesting in it's own way.
and it's pretty new to see assassin and actually the victim is the mastermind this time. although the comedy is still bad...

overall, it was a pretty good episode. tho the comedy didn't entertain me but the plot progression was interesting which made me enjoy the episode.

looking foward to the next episode :D

Pretty intense episode, the did the pacing well and twists were also handled well. Nice how things got very personal.
Poor Mayoi. But it's interesting to see how Naruhodo and Mitsurugi actually cooperates with each other for a change.

I like the actual conflict between saving Mayoi and freeing guilty one, talk like Devil's Advocate now.
