So good. I know some people are whining about how annoying Subaru was at first, but I can't be the only one who thinks his breakdown was handled perfectly. The psychological aspects of this show are really nuanced. It's interesting to see how everything slowly takes its toll. A lot of anime would gloss over all the psychological trauma. Looks like Subaru is finding his determination again, but I'm really curious to see what his mental state will be like by the end.

Anyway, sorry Kabaneri, but I think this is now my favourite anime of the season.

I thought it was pretty good that part. It finally showed the pain that he has hidden in for too long you know... I related/empathised deeply with him on that part. Depends on the person I guess...
They built up his tension this whole arc, he is becoming crazy with a split personality and a breakdown on her lap is enough to erase all that? If that's the case then it is cheap, for me such a sudden turn of heart is not convincing at all.

Who said it erased it? Subaru is still mentally broken and will continue to get worse. He just needed to let go and cry for a while to feel better. He hasn't been completely "cured" if that's what you mean.

Split personality? Do you actually think his overly-energetic demeanor this episode was genuine?
They couldn't have made it any more clear that he acts happy and eccentric as a mask to cope with his crippling depression and constant paranoia. The fact that he was annoying was the entire point.

you don't have someone that will listen to your problems in Life it seems.
I will be honest here,i dont...If i was Subaru and if there was such a person in my life, i would die a million times to protect that person...That person doesnt even have to be a erokawaii half-elf beauty...

Should I call it dissonance between his thought and behaviour or how? You got the message. His energetic demeanor has always been annoying genuine or not, this episode more than others because his condition was getting worse, I get this. It doesn't change the fact that he is mostly annoying.

it is great to know the only reason subru killed himself to save rem was because she hold his hands when he was sick what an amazing character interaction
also this show has no idea of ow to swift from heavy drama to comedy and that made the end of the episode cringewhorty
and as usual subaru remains a retard that needs to die three times to do the obvious and try to understand how he was killed to find a way to protect himself

Wat?I can understand you hating "lolis being sexualised" but hating lolis???Your mother was a loli once you know?

Lol, I must admit you amused me with that. But in all seriousness, we can't act like Beatrice, or even arguably the twins, are innocent acts. Lolis is one of the major things that harms the reputation of anime fans. Sometimes when people talk about pedophiles they make sweeping blanket statements about anime fans, without distinction, being apart of the people who are into little kids.

If a person assumes you are a pedophile just because the show you watch has some little girl in it,i have bad news:That person is more of a pedophile than you for having impure thoughts...

And again,i am not referring to loli-service shows...So far beatrice havent been in any kind of sexual context...She is just a being and she happens to be small...There is nothing impure about it unless you have a dirty mind yourself...

With the way Sabaru was acting, others will find it hard to believe that he is a good guy which lead to his death.
He thinks the villagers are the one that put the curse...it seems to be Emilia to me.
I am surprised he didn't die this episode/time...he acted way too suspicious.

It doesn't, but it helps a lot, perhaps not for you but for others it does. It feels like you are nitpicking to be honest, you can see it wasn't a miracle solution to his psychological state but it did help him.

Really enjoyed this episode. Poor Subaru is trying so hard. At least he got to rest his head in such a lovely place.

I wonder if the vase scene will come back to haunt Subaru. Rem definitely suspects Subaru. Although the Rem seeing Subaru sleeping may have negated that suspicion.

Those two flowers are lovely :)

People can judge just based on their experience and when putting themselves in his shoes they obviously would have done different choices with their current mentality. However the other perspective of saying: "imagine you are subaru and this happens then you would do the same" has no real value because it is just speculation and you can't imagine dying over and over again. So it just depends on the author how able is to convince the viewer of the plausibility of what happens.
So at the end no side is really correct, mostly matter of opinion.

I am not saying that couldn't work or at least as a temporary cure. For me it wasn't convincing since the build up was long and intense and then with just that lap breakdown all worries seem gone.

Another episode that doesn't disappoint. Seriously this is the one anime series from the last several years that has been so consistently good for me. Loved that this was a more chill episode with Subaru coming to terms with what's happened to him. His facade finally started to break down and that created a really powerful moment between him and Emilia.

The one thing that just makes this series work is the fact it makes you care so much about Subaru and his struggles. If it failed at that then this series wouldn't be as popular as it is now.

Interesting to learn more about the one witch, she really was the biggest bad in that world if it took all that to stop her and she managed to devour half the world. Hoping Subaru manages to survive this time but since the arc is still 2 episodes more he might have to die again, ugh pain.

I'm really liking Subaru and Emilia's chemistry and it was also nice to see the reason why she called herself Satella in the first episode was explained.
Still getting annoyed at Subaru's genius plans, though. Now that he likely confirmed he's got an unlimited number of deaths, why does he not take a more direct approach (as in telling them there's a threat which will appear in the next few days) instead of trying to convince them he's trustworthy by working hard of all things? As that would actually clear him of any suspicious.
I had a similar problem with Erased recently, so I assume it's just hard to make a story with time loops in which the mc makes logical decisions...
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

Speaking of Kino, the author actually wrote a spinoff novel of Kino's Journey called Gakuen Kino. She nicknames herself "Mysterious Bishoujo Gun Fighter Rider Kino". Guess you could say she's a little bit sexualized there lol. She's portrayed as a cutesy school girl. But as a huge fan of Kino's Journey I just thought it was interesting to note.

I honestly got no harem undertones between Beatrice and Subaru though. I don't see how anyone could warp their relationship into anything sexual. It seems completely platonic to me.

Satella already possessed the title of the witch of envy when she swallowed the other six witches. Also her swallowing half of the world and being sealed happened already 400 years ago. I think this information was mentioned in the novel at this point though they omitted it in the anime probably because of not enough time.
The anime mentions all these things except the "400 years ago" and more that you didn't mention. They changed 400 into "long ago".

( Someone's gonna die next week >.> )

The show is hinting way too much that Emilia might be the jealous witch. But I still don't want to believe it.

@Fai, The dog wasn't the source of the curse. I bet in the name of innocence!

Also, when Ram died last week, I'm pretty sure she didn't got bitten by the dog like Barusu

I have no words to describe how good this episode was, such a beautiful and brilliant episode, his breakdown scene was handled better than I've could dream of.

I only hope that Emilia is not the true witch nor is related to her in any way, because this would be so painful to watch after all the things which Subaru went through to get here and something like this would be too overwhelming for him to handle alone.

Honestly, I wish you hadn't given me this piece of information, I'll just shake my head and try to forget about it because I refuse to allow Kino's Journey to be stained by w.e spinoff.

Anyways, once you insert harem undertones in an anime it's already over, almost all center characters of the opposite sex of the main character automatically gets placed into the harem sphere, unless its a mother or something like that. Beatrice just being around, having her tsundere like attitude with him, and her cutesy little stunts means to me she might as well be in the harem, sure a fringe member of it, but in it nonetheless. Besides, like I said, I'm not sure I'll give those two maids the benefit of a doubt of not being lolis, they're very near loli to me.

I thought his problem was getting killed for whatever reason and then seeing the bonds he has made disappear. By the way quite conveniently the dark hand doesn't let him to tell anybody about his issues.
That's the major problem. And mental stress is another problem. Don't forget Subaru has numerous problems, and don't think it all can be solved by just sleeping on a lap. The lap scene released his emotional turmoil but it does not solve other problems.
I hate hearing people assume that an event is just put there conveniently. The dark hand is the package deal of Subaru's curse. So deal with it and wait for it for its purpose to unfold. If you think your patience is not that long, I suggest dropping this anime immediately. If you believe that the dark hand is just put there conveniently without doubt, then I suggest open-mindedness and give this anime a chance.

I'm not sure I'll give those two maids the benefit of a doubt of not being lolis, they're very near loli to me.

Can i have your definition of Loli please?

I always lose a little respect for male characters when they cry like a baby.
Why? I hope it does not happen like in real life (except for crybabies of course).

Becasue man shouldn't cry, ya know /s

WOOO! The lap pillow scene was wonderful. Very heartwarming. :)

The best part is even Emilia didn't understand what he was going, just lending a n ear to troubles was healing enough. She really quite a kind person.

They built up his tension this whole arc, he is becoming crazy with a split personality and a breakdown on her lap is enough to erase all that? If that's the case then it is cheap, for me such a sudden turn of heart is not convincing at all.
Split personality? Do you actually think his overly-energetic demeanor this episode was genuine?
They couldn't have made it any more clear that he acts happy and eccentric as a mask to cope with his crippling depression and constant paranoia. The fact that he was annoying was the entire point.

Yeah, there should be no question about it. He has difficult task ahead of him without much of an idea how to approach it (with little to no help) on top of fear being hated and getting killed. It's natural that he would breakdown from it all. At the end of day he's only human and just boy at that. It's thanks to Emilia and Beako that he finally found some sense of relief and direction. It's all very well does and not something touch on in anime all that often. Certainly didn't feel cheap at all to me.

Meh, if one doesn't care about the small important moments like that then won't like this series.

Characters that are children, or modeled to appear shaped like children, who are sexualized or clearly there to fit a fetish of people who are interested in that type of thing. I do realize that lolis do not need to be sexual to be lolis, they can just be made to appear like chilren, but usually when I use the term loli what I mean is they're there for the fetish and apparent money that is gained by apparent loli supporters,
Jaywalker.
