It's time to finish some series from that gigantic PTW list :D
If you crave for nice and relaxing slice of life, I highly recommend Natsume Yuujinchou. It gives off similar vibe as Mushishi, but it's more lighthearted, usually.
Or if you would prefer a little bit of mystery combined with slice of life, try Hyouka.

Thanks for you fast responses mates! :D I will choose one of them later! I put them on stand-by!

@yhunata
You're under arrest, don't really fit with the slice of life genre I guess x') but thanks anyway!
It's harder to find an old anime with french subtiles, so I'm not really motivated ~ (I watch english sub of course, but mainly for the airing animes, one episode by week)

@mozgow
Tamayura, yep, I don't have watch any of them, they wait in my huge plan to watch list!
But I don't understand why an anime with two seasons, many movies and oav is so ... stealthy ? seriously, I never heard anyone talk about this one, even if I saw it sometimes on the animes news!

@namea
Natsume Yuujinchou, yes, I need to watch it soon, I know! xD Mushishi is one of my favorites animes, it's a sign!
Hyouka, I have the 1080p vostfr on my hard drive so, I need to watch it too! full HD dude, that's f*cking perfect!

I watched it because I had heard so much about it. I also some some hype around the movies coming out. I watched the first OVA series for last year's challenge and I still have Hitose on my PTW from who knows when (it's been on there for well over a year). The premise seems interesting. It's one of the few anime about photography.

For the TV Tropes slot, does the anime have to be specifically on the trope's page or can the trope be listed on the anime's page? I got a fairly common trope when I randomized, but the options listed on the page are fewer than the number of shows that actually use the trope.

If I could also get a check on my list so far I'd greatly appreciate it.

When you turn in the challenge, the live-action must have aired already.

~~~~
@Confederate_Jeb I think for the "Watch an anime that started airing the same season you joined MAL" it has to be a tv series.
Your Lie in April is not about a romantic relationship.
Also Erased live-action needs to air before you submit your form.
@Confederate_Jeb For an anime tagged with a genre you don't like you used "kids" as a genre when it's actually a demographic. I don't know if this could still count. You used Aimai Elegy as a series you can complete in one day even though it's only one episode. A series must be at least 3 episodes. Sugar Soldier is 3 episodes and 4 minutes long (1 minutes 20 seconds per episode) if you want to watch something short for it, but it must be a series. There's already a challenge for watching a movie which is expected of you to watch in one day (5cm/s and Memories are both movies with three episodes, though).
Thanks for clarifying. I also have a question about this:
AudioTsunami said:
Does the anime need to focus on a relationship from the start? Is it okay if they get together somewhere in the middle?
Getting together in the final episode is probably outruled here I guess.
I don't think it matters when they get together. Cause I would count Nodame Cantabile and LoveCom where they get together at the end, because the whole show is based on the main characters getting together. Your Lie in April is about the main character getting over his traumatic past and returning to normalcy and learning how to cope. There is romance, but there is also a TON of not romance and romance with not Kaori. Being labeled romance doesn't necessarily mean the show is about a romantic relationship. Sakamichi no Apollon and Nana are other examples of that beside Your Lie in April(neither of which fall under the exception that i'm about to talk about in the next paragraph). Just my 2 cents.
It might be close enough to count, because I know @SheyCroix talked about Paradise Kiss before, where I said it was close enough and he agreed, so that's prossibly the case with Your Lie in April. But my two cents, as a guy who wouldn't have to have 10k arguments about what counts and what doesn't, is that it's not about a romantic relationship and there are plenty of shows that fit the category better.
» Watch an anime that focuses on a couple with a romantic relationship: Your Lie in April
that's not the focus of the anime
» Watch an anime with children as the main cast: Fumiko's Confession
Is not clear enough if the girl is younger than 12
» Watch an anime recommended to you by another Anime Watching Challenge participant: Ping Pong the Animation
» Watch an anime that another user has watched for this challenge: Ojisan and Marshmallow
mention the users
Gin no Saji and Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou are both similar to Barakamon(which you gave a 10 - as did I) in that they are slice of life/comedies about a guy moving away from home and in with a bunch of weirdos.
Chiayafuru is also something I would recommend in that it's a slice of life with a little bit of everything (comedy/romance/drama). It's very good and while it is technically a "sports" anime, it's pretty light on that and competition plays into the slice of life/romance bits very well. I highly recommend it.
Thanks for the feedback! Admittedly I put Your Lie in April in the couple romance category before I had even seen it. Having finished it, the only "couple" in the film (Watari and Kaori) doesn't really fit the purpose of that category.
I assume this is about formatting? Hit "Quick Reply" and at the bottom of the text box there're three buttons-- Submit, Cancel, and BBCode. Hit BBCode, and it tells you all about formatting. Decorate the challenge list all you like with this.
Hello :) I just signed up for the challenge today. I have a few questions that I hope you guys can help me with.
1. If I am debating between easy and medium, is it better to plan with medium in mind? (i.e. making sure my show for the cours question is two rather than one so it won't cease to count.) For example, I have Black Butler listed under horror / demons / vampires and Deadman Wonderland listed under the question--should I swap them to plan ahead? (provided they meet the criteria and I haven't messed up. :) )
2. I only joined the site a few days ago. How does this effect the 'watch an anime that has been on your plan-to-watch list way too long' option? Does it absolutely not apply to me? Would I wait until later in the year (Nov. / Dec.) and add something now? Would I only be qualified to use this if I were doing hard and it was a non-negotiable item to complete the challenge?
3. Considering that I am fairly new to anime (been watching for a long time but I have not seen much, if that makes sense?) is the recommendation question a better choice then matching my hair color to that of a character in anime? (Was planning to do that to add Fruits Basket, but I'm wondering if I'm better off getting a recommendation instead since I already want to watch that.)
4. If anyone would be so kind as to take a look at my list and the anime I have chosen for each criteria, that would be greatly appreciated. I will place the answers in a spoiler to keep this from getting too lengthy.
On second count, it looks like I already had one too many. I would still love a recommendation (preferably something I can find dubbed without too much trouble--I'm legally blind and trying to watch something and read subtitles does not work well for me.) though. Thanks very much for taking a look at this. Any feedback that would improve what I have here is most welcome.
I would suggest leaving all the challenges up, and fill them as you go. When you get to the number you want (either for easy or medium), cut out all the extra. This makes it easier to fill out the ones you will watch. Could even try to hard if you really want.
Could just a show you have wanted to watch, but just haven't gotten around it to. Doesn't necessarily have to have been on your list. If you have been watching for a while, there could be some show you just haven't gotten around to yet. Leaving this one until later, or just skipping it would be options as well. Start building a Plan to Watch list and see how it goes.
Which even works for you. Again, I would just recommend leaving all the challenges open until you are done and see what you fill out as you go. You don't have to plan things out either.
Yes
1 - As mentioned above, if you aren't sure better leave everything and fill as you go. But for filling the cour one you need to know what difficulty you will go for, since one won't count for the other.
2 - Something you heard of before but haven't watched yet can be used
3 - You have to ask for recommendations so the hair color would be up to you, unless you provide what hair color you have so others can help you there
4 - checked your form and
» Watch an anime that focuses on a couple with a romantic relationship -- Maid-Sama
If I remember correctly they aren't in a relationship till the very end
» Watch an anime one-/two-/three-cours (or more) in length (easy/medium/hard) -- Deadman Wonderland (one-cours)
remember if you go with one cour the difficulty would be easy
I leave the recommendations to others
As far as which categories to cut, I would just cut the categories that were the most difficult to fulfill, such as "anime with children as main cast", or the 1981-1990 challenge or the unpopularity challenge because older stuff and unpopular stuff typically lack dubs.
Your list looks fin so far.
As for recommendations, try Noragami(it's sequel also is dubbed), Beck, Redline if you need a movie(the dub of this movie is one of the best ever).
Edit: Since Maid-Sama doesn't count, you might want to use Nodame Cantabile or Garden of Words
Hello there, I need some advice.
I'm preoccupied until July with drawing for art school applications and I'd have time until September if I got accepted and move out (then I'll have probably one or two months without Internet if I don't get a place in a dorm). I'd still want to do the challenge (preferably on hard mode with "no specials/etc." limitations), do you think it's worth starting it that late into the year or should I wait until next January? The challenge looks very interesting and it would be a good opportunity to lessen my plan to watch list too.
Thanks for you replies, I hope this belongs in here.
You can use any Anime that you started watching after January 1st 2016; also if you've limited time, would recommend that you stick with 1-cour series and movies, to make sure you can finish the challenge.
How much space do you have on your computer? A one cour anime only takes about 4 gigs so you could download some in advance and watch them when you can. Even just an episode a day will add up. Even if you aren't able to do this, you can finish the challenge in a month or two if pick shorter anime. I'm doing mine as an average so if I watch a two cour anime and a 25 minute movie they would average out to one cour.
Yeah, it's a weird category, but not one that is hard to fill once you know what is in it.
A small list of stuff that works
Akagami no Shirayuki-hime (both seasons - dubbed)
Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou
From Up on Poppy Hill (dubbed)
Garden of Words(dubbed)
Hori-san to Miyamura-kun
Kodomo no Omocha
Toshokan Sensou
Ao Haru Ride
Bro, I could have done the challenge in half the number of anime needed if you could reuse anime. Do you know how many challenges Spice and Wolf works for? "Adults main casts", "romantic couple", "non-human", "historical", "fantasy", "professional", "archetype" (kemonomimi), "not Japanese", "light novel", "top 300", "random trope" and "random word" if you're lucky, "hair colour" if you have brown hair. That's 13 challenges completed with a single anime. You can make your own challenge to see how few anime could complete the hard challenge if this was allowed, but thankfully it's not. One anime per challenge, all entries count as separate anime (even music videos).
