Who remembers the old dubstep when it was all about calm synths. Artists like Skrillex came in and made it more about loud noise and heavy bass. A couple of years later and it's like this genre is dying and some of the producers are moving on which is sad because it's like they are selling out.

you probably ever listened to the stuff that was coming out of America. It's been around for years, american artists just made it popular and then ditched it.

I personally think that all he did was bring dubstep to a larger audience who then proceeded to ruin it by poorly mimicking his style.

His focus on big breaks and loudness isn't all that surprising if you take his old band (From First To Last) into consideration, since they were a post-hardcore-ish band who did the same sort of thing in a different fashion. But even some of his earlier stuff was pretty melody based, like Ruffneck and All I Ask Of You.

It just evolved. I don't think he ruined it, and the older dubstep I don't think was all it was hyped up to be.

I assume you're talking about older grime from the UK, like caspa, mt eden, stenchman etc.

Some of the older dubsteps good still, but skrillex isn't bad by a mile.

Ditto. Everything after Skrillex isn't bad but other people - including UK residents - are mostly annoyed by it when thinking about older Dubstep.
BTW, Skrillex wasn't the first to "kill" dubstep. Coki started all this brostep madness back in 2007:

Nah, I don't think it's dead. It just lead to Post-Dubstep and Future Garage to counter it

Kind of? But it started to get really shit and boring when all this "trench" and "riddim" stuff came out in like 2014 and everyone started doing that style.

Labels like Deep Medi Musik, GetDarker, and Artikal Music UK are still active in the genre. Most of the releases these recent years have had more deeper/darker sounds than before.

No, because it was a bullshit genre to begin with. "oldschool dubstep" is just fucking trip-hop.

This seem more like Grime you're referring to. Do you have any examples of that why you think it so?

I mean if Skrillex 'killed' Dubstep then he was definitely doing something right.

I think he's great. Between Skrillex and Bassnectar you have the twin pillars of experimental dubstep.

Because Grime also stole a bunch of hallmarks of trip-hop

That's interesting. One thing trip-hop, grime, and dubstep have in common is they were influenced by Dub which came earlier, though there are far more influences going on in the former.

When I think of old school dubstep, it's some of these sorts...
