This episode's second half was completely bonkers. I love the parts where Leilei just decided to go full loco, & how the JSDF goes overkill on those two baby dragons. Kinda sad to see those cumdumpsters dark elves get wasted though.

That arc was actually in the gaiden novels..which were released after Gate finished which are essentially side stories of other adventurers that took place both during and after the main story finished.

Skipping that is a win. Reading the manga, it's "why are they doing this minotaur dungeon crawl while important stuff is happening elsewhere?" We're now at the end of the published manga.

Interesting. I didn't know Lelei was this powerful and Tuka was pretty good, too.

Also. What a surprise. The whole group of warriors died. Who would have thought that... Now there is even less of a chance that the bitch elf will stay with her village -.-

Ah well. Maybe it won't be as bad. The other characters had less screen time, too. Who am I kidding. She'll be super nice to Itami(incredibly annoying at that) and be in every damn episode from now on -.- God I hate her so much. Fucking entitled bitch.

Yes, Tuka having enough power to call down lightning was a surprise.

Lelei is a combat mage. She studies, she does R&D on weaponizing chemistry and magic, and she doesn't lose her head in battle. We've seen all that before. Now we see her at work.

But Tuka? She cast a sleep spell once, in EP 7, but that's all we've seen her do, although she's been at several battles.

Why Unlimited Blade Works ?
Do you guys do not see only anime?
Suikoden 2 "Hungry friend" (1998) or Devil May Cry "Sword Illusion"

Because this show has a few references to Fate/stay night. The special force teams that were guarding the hot springs, for example, were named Saber, Archer, Lancer. Caster eventually adds to the fray later. A code phrase "the grail has been filled" (or something) was uttered at one point. Itami was given "Avenger". This one a reference to Fate/stay night Hollow Ataraxia.

Finally, Lelei picks rusted swords up from the ground and and sword spams. This is how Unlimited Blade Works is supposed to work. Coincidentally, I saw some people exclaim "Gate of Babylon" or "Gilgamesh", which is funny because Gil would NEVER pick swords up from the ground. Gate of Babylon works differently, too and has a yellow hue instead of a blue one.

I have to think you both because his question and your answer was the first rational explanation as to why ANY show is a "parody" of any other show.

There are far too many people here who think that the first place they see something happens is the first place it has ever happened. These include extremely cliched ideas and words, and includes the swarm of swords. So that alone is not a parody, the sword spasms makes a parody more likely, previous specific head bobs to shows (including Apocalypse Now) increases the likelihood, and final a specific previous head bob to the show in question pretty much seals the deal.

Great episode. I really like Lelei's badass grin and attack. In the end, she wanted revenge, too. Nice lightning from Tuka, followed by a big explosion, as expected of 74 kg C4. And it was cool, how Giselle got rekt by the "filthy humans".

O shit, eggshells, multiple dragons are gonna come and someone is gonna die.
He dropped the communication device and now the dragon is gonna swag his way in and kill some people
Wait, that dragon doesn't have an eye and an arm, does that mean that there really is more than one dragon. I'm probably mistaken as I think it's only one dragon but I don't remember the prior attacks.
Whatever fuck it
Dragon came in with super swag, burned the elfs and ate some as well. Swag on point.
HOLY SHIT that evil smile on Leilei's face tho, she's a born sadist 100%
Leilei acting like Fujitora and attacking with those levitated swords
Ayy Tuka doing her best Killua impression with those thunders.
Dragon has been killed. Bombs for days.
Fuck, Rory-chan is injured. Shit so she took Itami's injuries and pain. Noooo Rory-chan don't get hurt pls
So the fucking blue sister woke up the fire dragon for no reason and killed the clans, well this is normal in anime.
The JSDF comes to the rescue. good that shit didn't go further.
This anime is very detailed abut the plot, guns get a proper description, commands seem legit, mangaka has done a good research from what I think.

Loco Lelei was a very nice surprise. Tuka got over her trauma pretty quickly there too.

For a moment I thought, "Oh shit, they can't deal with two baby dragons right now!"
Whelp no. JSDF. Who am I kidding. These guys are OP.

What happen to saving the Dark Elf Clan. They like... all suicided. Yao forgot about them lmao.

But six little packets can take down a dragon. Yeesh, weapons of mass destruction could definitely decimate the world.

Also, that may not have necessarily been a UBW reference. The rain of swords can be seen in a lot of series and games. Madoka had it as well.

@Ginkaize, LN novelist was in the JSDF. There was probably a bit of research, but mostly personal experience/knowledge I would think.

Those dark elves weren't given a fuck to at all, the girl showed no concern. I mean wat, you wanted to save them that's why you begged Itami and co. And yeah I know the writer was a part of JSDF but I had forgotten/wasn't sure.

Is it just me or did anyone else remember what the King said back then in early 1st season episodes; about using the dragon to destroy villages as some sort of war tactic, which hinted some sort of control the King had over the dragon?

(Ps: that's called gap-moe.)

This episode was absolutely fantastic, and funny enough probably the best depiction of the mayhem of a real battle, as well as an accurate portrayal of a multi-stage strike package that they rained hell down on those dragons with. I'm not a big military nut, but seeing that organization and the artillery barrage was satisfying, me being someone who ponders combat tactics all the time. It's shameful how much fiction misuses or cheaply depicts tactics/strategies that are actually more impressive in real life (kinda like how i've previously commented on the lack of strategy and tactic sophistication within the gate fantasy world). Those dragons were only babies though, poor things.

Yeah, storm of blades is an ancient idea. It's analogous of armies of soldiers who are their weapons and roll in like a storm. The fallen leave their blades behind (and can be reclaimed), thus the imagery. It's actually more accurate to the old in this anime than in Fate/Stay Night.

Re-watched those early episodes, it was my mistake after all.. my memory got mixed up.

Incidentally I watched Kato (Lelei's master) saying that it woke up 50 years earlier, in relation with ep.17 story about how its activity and hibernation cycle is very long, so we can assume its food will replenish when it's asleep.. I kind of get the big picture on how this Fire dragon species is an integral part of Special Region, and it worked for hundred of years at least without JSDF interference..

So, how will you think removing this species affects the whole ecosystem in the future? I don't read LN but I can make some assumptions, that these elf species live very long and have no natural predator other than Fire dragons, if we remove these predators wouldn't it result in overpopulation? Yeah i know only Yao & Tuka remains (and naturally it falls on Itami to help them repopulate LOL ) but my point is, a species will be extinct unless they adapt, and we have no right to interfere with natural course of evolution & choose which species survives (Starfleet Prime Directive on First Contact :P ) - If the elves' fate is due, then it is nature's way of saying "survival of the fittest".. although i know it's easier said than done because they happens to be sexy blonde & voluptous dark-skinned women :P

Humans can do whatever they want because they have the imagination to do so. Without dragons they'd need innovation to counteract their own ecological footprint. They could get cosy with JSDF to speed things up.

Thanks for the references I caught the Avenger reference in the beginning of this season, but the battle at the hot springs went over my head :( . When they said the grail had been lifted it caught my attention as that being an interesting line but I never put two and two together lol.

Leilei went super badass mode in that cave, and that smile :)

Did it not bother anyone else when Itami just swooped up Rory and her massive spear like it was nothing XD That thing was supposed to weigh like 1000 lbs, and Itami just not a problem hauling ass.

Those jets and artillery fire wiping the dragons out was a nice way to wrap up the dragon arc. 5/5 episode for sure, enjoying this season much more than the last.

A fire dragon is tough but it's no match for some good old-fashioned C4. I feel like a lot of those dark elves threw their lives away especially the last one. He should've fallen back with the others.

The SDF reinforcements came just in the nick of time :D A perfect ending to the episode. It almost felt like I was watching a movie instead of an episode.
