Why would you be shocked? The majority of people that read tokyo ghoul are completely retarded and the ones that watch chibi's video and make the chibi/retard combo are the worst. The only sane people are the ones that disliked that shit. Okay, that second video was pretty ridiculous( didn't bother to watch the first one). At this point I'm curious as to whether the people who watch his videos actually agree with the forced ''symbolism'' he describes, or if they just think it sounds smart and just go with it. |

That second video.. I can't even.. I had heard about that chibi guy but I didn't know he uploaded such retarded things. Who cares about that guy though, what's more ridiculous is the fact that some people agree with him as indicated by some comments. |

I enjoy reading THIS discussion more then some weekly manga chapters atm :X(COUGH BLEACH COUGH WTF STOP WITH THE GOD CHICKENS) Some of the predicted ''foreshadowing'' sounds really fucking crazy xD, is the writer that much of a god or are some people overthinking it xd? Yeah Eto aint dead... Kaneki beasted her ass and then TRIED to finish her off -_- I highly doubt he believes she is dead since his last attack missed... but who knows.. (Yeah i know Eto might have been holding back.. i dont see it though (YET)) Has Kaneki really been cruel so far? Rekt someone who was trying to kill him.., stabbed someone who tried to eat him several times... and cut someone who is just a straight up psychopath in half... No mercy for people that did something to him it seems (None of them are confirmed dead though), lets see what he does to people from the CCG that ''havent done anything to him''. I dont think he will leave CCG (YET). They might not want him anymore though (Ui please) xD But he is standing/eating (on) the ''corpse'' of the infamous owl.. RESPECT HIM PEASENTS.. And Kaneki... please dont get crazy from eating ghouls again xd PLEASE |

I'm not sure about Eto's mental state there ,she looked insane, almost as crazy as a half kakuja. callmefanton said: Theres also another forshadowing that Kaneki will stay as CCG, in the "trap" chapter Shirazu asked Sassan, "if your memory does return, will you quit being a ghoul investigator?" and Sassan said "no shit". So yeah, I think Kaneki will stay as CCG, and not just as pretending that he's still sasaki, I think he will confess to Papa Arima that he remembers everything but still wanted to stay as CCG investigator. best scenario for me. Edit: just noticed I typed half ghoul instead of half kakuja. |

Those guys, in combination with people who obviously have serious reading comprehension problems, can easily bring out the asshole in someone. I guess, its big pool of fans makes TG popular, but it also makes the fandom, er, diverse. TG draws upon many things. First and foremost, Kaneki is a Sue (there’s no way around it), so there’s the OP MC crowd. I dunno, why, but many people need their fix of OPness, as it seems. Some readers of this type are indeed unbearable (I remember the A.Z threads and shudder). You’re right in that there’re, undoubtedly, actionfags, who wanted cool fights ™, and maybe those in for “blood and gore as in Berserk/Gantz”. Frankly, I believe that TG in its main plot frame is close to a basic shounen. There’re battles, power upgrades, two conflicting sides, a chosen hero, some notions of caring for nakamas. So the shounen crowd can very well be drawn towards TG. TG:re shift broke this structure heavily, so there’s the hate and seeing TG:re as a setback on the "normal course". Then TG heavily draws on the vampire myth and the whole gothic thing. So there’re fans of darker settings and the otherkin types. The latter also wouldn’t like Kaneki siding with humans. I’d say that there’re also industrial and, probably, even metal motives (Slipknot masks) in TG. It’s hardly relevant in this discussion, but it makes the audience broader, than a medieval gothic setting, for example. Also TG is a SM heaven with suffering for all the thirsty fanfiction writers and refined wankers. So, in short, it is a combo kill. On the other hand reading TG is more or less inevitable for the fans of seinen and darker manga in general. I’d say that the popularity of TG makes it a likely choice of reading for any active manga reader, who isn’t strictly against this combination of genres. And many may stick with TG, cause Ishida is obviously well-read, and his writing is at least a level higher than manga average. But this causes problems for some of the fans. But I must say I feel that TG is indeed narcissistic at times, so it’s hard to catch on everything. In general, I think, it’s good that there’re things for everyone, it’s just that the people around one manga are way too different. |

In general, I think, it’s good that there’re things for everyone, it’s just that the people around one manga are way too different. It's just what people look for in a story. And of course, there are people who look for some very superficial things. However, I fail to see how TG is ''narcissistic'' - it has enough literary value to make the reader feel like they're actually reading something, but that does not make it narcissistic in any way. People just want to feel that what they're spending their free time on reading is something that they can be ''proud of'' - hence the way the swallow every little bit of symbolic and foreshadowing bullshit that's thrown their way - plausible or not. |

I chose the most flashy word, that's true, but I meant that TG seems to be written with the idea that a reader does honestly pay attention, sometimes it demands a bit too much of it maybe. And some things are vague or left for interpretation. There're self-references, hidden nods, symbols and motives that span the whole series, hints, foreshadowing and revelations, surreal moments and a really big cast to keep in mind. Also I feel that it demands some literature reading exeprience, and the latter many do not have. |

This chapter was so full of sexual tension you could almost choke on it. Actually, I don't know if that's intentional or not (though I wouldn't put it past the author, given his unsually high level of self-awareness), but Eto very much seemed like the perfect representation of the female fanbase. Not saying that I'm any different, tho. hehe What I found to be sadly ironic is the fact that Eto so strongly desires to make Kaneki "her child", when he's already been living the life of the protagonist from [The Black Goat's Egg] long before he ever entered the world of ghouls, let alone before he actually got to meet his favorite novelist. You'd just have to replace the serial killer mother with the physically abusive one, and the protagonist's realisation that he and his mother are made of the same cloth with the moment in chapter 53 where 'the real' Kaneki finally wakes up. This would explain why this particular novel has always been Kaneki's favorite; perhaps that dormant, deeply buried part of him that has awaken just now saw himself in the main protagonist and might have subconsciouly developped a real fascination for that book, which was basically telling the story of his life. Man, the more I think about it, the more sorry I feel for this poor lad. |

Doesn't need to be in your face but a few hints here and there would be more than welcome. Also, to be very frank, TG:re really needs more sex, since by now everyone is sublimating as hell. ps: apparently the number 11 has been spotted on one of the teeth of Eto's fatass kagune that Kaneki's eating at the end of the chapter. Seems like both the Strength and the Justice cards could work in context, but I like the Strength interpretation better. Works better with the themes currently adressed with true Kaneki's character progression. |

what I meant was that for the umpteenth time, Haise and Kaneki are the same person, as well as Kuroneki and shironeki are the same person, they are all Kaneki, so it makes no sense to pretend to be someone himself. and I find incredible that so many fans had difficulty understanding something as simple, but it is understandable, if we stop to think that many that thought Kaneki was in complete disadvantage when fighting against Eto because he was without a hand, only shows that even those who said to be a fan of the work do not even know which the Kaneki's fighting style. |

Is it just here on MAL or are all TG fans that condescending towards one another? Cause frankly, the general level of salt and hostility in those discussion threads doesn't really encourage discussion... "you can't comprehend this" "im surrounded by a bunch of retards that" "only a handful of chosen ones, which im obviously a part of, seem to be able to trully appreciate Ishida's art in the way it was meant to be appreciated" (the last one was kindof exaggerated for the sake of argument, but you catch my drift) etc... @Arcanix good thing that TG is just an innocent manga about fighting man-eating tentacle monsters and discussing about it do not represent any kind of mortal danger to you or your pretty head then, right? Srsly tho, being a tiny bit more civil has never hurt anybody. ps: besides, if you told the guy to fuck off because he's a retard, something tells me that you'd get burnt too. Matter a fact, he'd most likely throw your ass in the nearest lake ordeal-by-water style before you even finished insulting him. |

Nuvviveji said: Also 'this chapter was full of sexual tension' But it seriously was. The eye licking, the "love you" line, the interest Eto has in Kaneki, her being covered in flimsy bandages, her frenzied cries, i'd say also the kagune cover torn... The tension is real. And violence and sex are kind of tied in visual fiction. The other thing is that this tension doesn't mean love or their ship going anywhere. I don't see what's wrong with this statement. |

Can everyone just chill with the eye licking? There are so many important and interesting things going to happen in the next few chapters yet this has become the ultimate highlight. And I am not talking solely about mal of course, some people might be overly excited or just make some jokes here, but everywhere else on the internet many fans automatically think that the 'eye licking' must mean that a 'twisted romance' will be developed. It's not such a big deal atm. |

I didn't only retain that, I solely stated that part because I meant to continue onto what Arcanix said.Nuvviveji said: Well, was my post so superficial that that's the only thing that you retained after reading it?Also 'this chapter was full of sexual tension' and 'Eto saying 'I love you' to Kaneki represents the female fanbase'. Literally what. Is this manga so superficial that that's the only thing you thought of after reading it. And see? That's kindof what I'm talking about: it's not even possible to post a harmless, not-so-serious comment about anything without being automatically attacked for having a superficial reading of the manga. I mean, what's even the problem with what I said? It's fine if you don't agree but don't treat me like a freak or an idiot for just stating my opinion. Agent-Phrank said: You sure have slipped that in subtletly *_*I am highly anticipating the CCG's promotion ceremony; I love seeing Yoshitoki passing out medals. Will Kaneki recognize that beautiful voice? Surely he's heard it somewhere else before. |

Erm, but eye licking, performed on a MC by a girl one-eyed king - writer - ghoul goddess amidst a fight is the attention grabbing put on paper, with which you can even attract new fans: "Hiyya, there's this manga with a bandaged monster chick, who licks a guy's eye during a fight, so badass, check it out". It's a cover-class moment. It's logical and normal that it has grabbed people's attention and is the talk of the fandom, it was designed this way. |

Fuck I guess I'm going to be the one and say it....Tokyo Ghoul has officially become a harem. We got the tsundere-Touka. We got the imouto-esk-Hinami. We got the yandere/sadist-Eto. And we have potential for Akira, Mutsuki(If Ishida want's to go that route), and we have Itori. Many Tokyo Ghoul fans are in denial about this recent development and the only place to express themselves is here on MAL forums. |

The more the better... |
