Do you think the mission per episode archetype is bad for 12 episode animes?

I am referring to animes that have lots of mini arcs every 1-3 episodes like Charlotte, gangsta and Hamatora that aren't in the slice of life or comedy genre. Every 1-3 episodes they have a new mission or task they have to do. I think this type of archetype is fail because first episode is introducing characters, next 1-5 episodes is wasted doing some random missions then generally some random climax is the last 3-5 episodes. The ending is rarely ever justified due to the lack of buildup or reasonable buildup. There are some anime that did it fine like Psycho pass and Cowboy bebop but that's because they have enough time for plot and character development due to being 24-26 episodes long whereras 12 episodes is too short.

That depends if the final/main story can bring together those random mini arcs or episodic missions.

No I think it is fine they are short shows anyway, I wouldn't want a long arc like in really long shows because that is boring

I agree, most of the time it'd be better if they only had 1-2 arcs in 12 episodes. But some shows work fine with more.

It all depends on the the quality of the development; everything is unique to each series/season. I've seen splitting 12 episodes into 4-5 arcs work both well (Kokoro Connect) and terribly (obnoxiously underdeveloped omnibus harems, I'm looking at you).

NGNL is good despite being quite episodic. It just depends on how the director(and anyone else concerned) manages the 23-minute mark of one episode.

It depends. So much can be accomplished in a single episode that sometimes having 3/4 episodes dedicated to the same thread of story is more than enough to proper convey a satisfactory conclusion.
From the impressions I read of Charlotte, that doesn't seem to be its case.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

Lmfao.

OT, Ushio to Tora does it quite well. The story is mostly episodic, but every episode contributes to either characterization, worldbuilding or, if it isn't episodic, to the plot as a whole.

So yeah. It all depends on the execution.
