| Why do you say non-existent Shirou-Sakura when its actually the most engaging and well written one in fsn, if only because both sides are really unstable and actually reliant on one another to a degree much higher than any of the others? Not to say I particularly like the pairing or anything, but it's probably the last one that could be called "non-existent". |

Well, i buy Shirou and Rin's relationship more than 70% of romantic relationships in romance anime shows out there, and they sure have tons more romantic scenes than all of F/SN routes combined. Character interactions can be way more effective as a romantic writing tool than dedicated romantic scenes, when done right, and i felt that this was the case in UBW. Rin's development in UBW didn't need romance to happen, yes, but i take the effect and consequences of a relationship as a whole to consider it interesting or even relevant to the story progression. Shirou's healthy development in UBW gives way more credit to that relationship than anything that happens between Shirou and Sakura in HF. While Sakura's influence on Shirou's development was certainly interesting, it definitely wasn't a positive one. I realize that interesting aspects in any story don't need to be positive to be good (F/Z, for example) but it needs to contribute positively, even indirectly, in my opinion, to the romantic relationship. Especially when that romantic relationship is the sole motivation for the main character. But i digress, "interesting" is a really subjective term. What i may find more interesting, can be more dull and uninteresting, relatively, to you. |
