THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Finally, action picked up again this episode especially in the latter half.

This present/alternate conflict is getting out of control tbh. Still not feeling well about Tooru and his motivations though in this story...but it seems to be legit. The whole war conflict is also really taking a toll on almost everyone now.

"Dead End" sand almost swallowed the main guy. A rock from the space became a cube that is related to time machine and key to everything. The scientists believed that sand was the strongest and ultimate being?! So that girl was a female scientist that caused it. Time keeper is a mixture of people who were trapped in Dead End.

Art and animation were pretty bad comparing to last episode, but it doesn't matter. Plot is great, this is exactly what I'm expecting from sci-fi show. 5/5!

Not sure what's happeing. I got that his parents died in a fire, that the timekeepers are the people inside of the Dead End. Anyone explain for me again what the ghost girl's part in this episode was, please? :D I wanna understand better.

That girl is clearly the daughter of tooru and kyouka. Just look at her hair colour, it's a mix of blue and pink hence the purple hair she has.

Well, this seems like it is starting to take an interesting direction (at least, it does when I can get my head around what is actually going on). I do agree with the general consensus that the purple-haired girl is Tohru and Kyoka's daughter though.

No doubt this black Tohru is the most annoying character in the history of anime.
It is totally free, there is nothing interesting in it, your personality is depressing, typical whiner.
His reasons for fighting are a joke.
It spoils the anime with your boredom.

depressing episode, thanks to black Tohru

Ehh felt like an ok episode. We get to learn about the dead end a little more.
I feel like that little girl is tooru and kyoka's future daughter. Blue and pink kind of makes purple....

This show is fucking insulting. Everything about it. The costume and character designs, the animation, the sound, the fight choreography, the asinine 90s video game premise, the infodump-based plot... ugh, this anime exists solely as a giant middle finger to humanity.

Okay we are getting further in the story. I agree that little girl has to be the daughter of Tohru. So now how is he going to save the world? The girl disappeared without saying the most important piece of information :O :O

Tooru's Dead End illusions were kind of eerie. Good thing the loli showed up before it dragged out even further.

As many are saying, that loli is probably Tooru and Kyouka's daughter from the future. Their conversation provided and clarified a lot of information.

Just average episode. Decent amount of infodump, but the illusions in the beginning were unnecessarily long.

Holy shit this time stuff is getting complex and confusing.

So basically, the Timekeepers send energy cubes back in time to the two universes. The universes use them to evolve their technology. However, using these cubes creates some kind of paradox in which the Dead End sand is created. Anyone who uses the Dead End sand to kill their enemies is then turned into the sand, and anyone who is killed by the sand becomes absorbed by the sand, thus ending humanity.

The Timekeepers are then basically a mix of the scub coral for Eureka 7 and the anti-spirals from Gurren Lagann. They are a collective conscience of the people absorbed by the sand, and they have the ability to store human conscience inside the sand keep them suspended in a dream.

What I don't understand is the end game of the Timekeepers/Dead End sand. According to them, humanity ends either way. They want to absorb all humans into the sand and let them live their dream worlds out, but if they don't humanity will just evolve and create the sand anyway. Then that sand will absorb everyone.

Do the Timekeepers gain something by absorbing all humans? According to them, even if the other universe is destroyed, the sand will come anyway so all of this fighting seems pointless. Either the two universes evolve, and fight in the giant war, thus creating the Dead End sand, or one is destroyed, but the sand if created anyway due to the paradox of using the energy cubes, and the cubes that came from the Timekeepers' future.

Does the Dead End sand want to infinitely grow? Technically even if they do absorb all of the humans from these 2 universes, there would be infinite other universes that they would travel back in time to and provide energy cubes to, thus continuing the cycle in one gigantic paradox.

I was thinking along these lines as well. I'm done with speculating for now. I'm just going to wait to see how they explain it. Hopefully they won't leave too many plot holes.

This show tries to be exciting, but it fails to execute it. It gets quite boring in some parts, and I wanted to sleep through the explanations... It was just so dull. It would have been much better if it was straight to the point, otherwise it becomes confusing.

Once in a while you got Ueda Kana to do evil character, or maybe for the first time ever. I wan not disappointed.

Back to topic, so now we have a clear image of what is going on but at the same time it was not revealed the true motivate behind the DEAD END. I think DEAD END is trying to farm by repeating the past over and over again until it become unstoppable.

The only way to stop Dead End is to prevent it from being created. The only way to do that is to get the two worlds to work together.

Uh ... what the heck was this episode?! O_O So Tohru has a really freaking weird dream, and the sand stuff is "Dead End" that basically takes people if they use the power and then also absorbs people they defeat ... okay, that got weird. I'm confused as to what exactly the Timekeepers are still and that girl as well ... so she went into the past to try to prevent the fighting? Man, what the heck is happening right now >_< Not to mention it wasn't a very interesting episode either ... explanations were kinda boring :S

Alright so hey (FIRST POST EVER🎉🎉🎉)
I'm confused. I thought that the ghosty girl said that people who use the Dead End and are shot by Dead End would be turned to sand. That makes sense. But why do other random civilians who've never touched Dead Ens turn to sand?
And what was that rock that Tohru was holding?
Also: The Timekeepers want humanity to go into the dream state via the sand. So what's the alternative to that?
Okay so I think I'm starting to understand (correct me if I'm wrong) The Dead End is a natural thing in their universe. Timekeepers think they have a solution to the war, which is giving everyone dead end weapons. If they didn't give them those, both worlds would wipe each other out, with normal weapons right?
Holy shit Batman, this is confusing.

Alright yeah serious mindfuck here guys:
So the Time Keepers send cubes back because they want humans to use them and then be sucked into their weird fantasy land, but isn't that pointless? Humans found that particle in space and the ghost girl said it was used for military purposes. So doesnt that mean that humanity was already fucked since they essentially already created Dead End? And so the solution to not creating dead end is to... not use their weapons ever? Fuck this is super confusing but I want to understand it so bad. The story makes up for the character's personalities equaling that of a sponge.

OHHH I GET IN NOW. I NEED TO WRITE IT BEFORE I FORGET!
Okay so the particle is found in the Ghost Girl's adulthood time. That's when dead end is created. A war would be the result of the time travel being possible, so dead end thinks it's giving them a merciful way out. The war wouldn't use dead end weapons. The time keepers are the ones promoting the use of those. And since humans already used them, they're essentially fucked. So the only way to prevent this shit is to go back in time and prevent them from finding the particle.
