The thing about Log Horizon is it's meant to feel weird. There isn't a clear cut objective or ultimate goal in mind, it's just about taking their situation as it comes and enjoying the adventure that unfolds. There's no focus on getting out and making it end. While SAO treats the trapped premise as a nightmare, LH turns it into a second home. In that sense, it captures its MMO setting perfectly.

Only about the second season which brings up tons of questions and then just ends.
I probably regret this post by now.

Because people like it. You like SAO, right? You found it to be entertaining, that's why you like it. People found Log Horizon to be entertaining, that's why they like it. Thus, why it's popular.

This was one of the reasons i dropped it, guess they had such shitty lifes that they didn't even want to see there family members ever again. Also people always hate plot holes and lack of explanation but i guess in this anime they didn't mind it.

How does it capture the mmo setting perfectly when they are humans thrown in a game that isnt normal reaction. It would have been the same if they just cut one whole game setting and just make a some fantasy world that looks like a game.

I really hope they give us a third season. The ending of the second season just gave us more questions than answers.

Fair enough. It would have been rather strange just to end it there anyway.

I meant that it's like an MMO in the sense that there's no ultimate goal or final boss-esque objective to pursue. Similar to how there's no definite way to "beat" an MMO, they're not shoving the idea of going home into our faces as the end all be all goal.

log horizon doesn't explain things, they just make stuff up whenever it suits their needs. Then they may never ever refer to it again. All this show does is make up problems, makes up random ways to fix them and then tries to develop its overly basic characters in the mean while. Meaning, we get tons of flash backs and friendship speeches every episode!

Well you can't beat an MMO but almost always there is an end boss but it gets replaced by another end boss or another events if we talk about pve.MMO goal is always to clear all content.

Second season had some of what I can only hope is filler, with that kiddie arc, but by the end it was getting pretty good again. Next season should be good if they can stick to the source.

At the end of the first season, Shiroe had an epic speech and I was amped for what could come after. I hope they can live up to that, because this is the show that could possibly bring out the real potential of the 'trapped in a game' concept. SAO was about escaping it (and then lost all meaning once they achieved that), NGNL is kind of cool but I feel like its limits may be closer than you might think.

Maybe it's wishful thinking but allow me this one bit of optimism in this cynical anime world of ours.

Same here. As soon as they started focusing on the stupid noob kids, it got too awful to keep watching.

It's a good series but a 3rd season needs to start answering questions and stick to the main characters. Far to much time wasted on side stories this second season

Really? The characters are the worst part of the show, and the 2nd Season is exactly bad because it actually focuses on the characters and their shitty backstories that no one cares about. The characters should have stayed the plot devices and funny one liners throwers that they where before, they where better that way, and they could focus on the MMO mechanics and world building instead of little brats tragic backstory no one gives a rats ass about.

They can make it about escaping the game which is the only logical way there is no way they would want to stay there forever, but that doesnt mean you have to make them escape easy like SAO had good going they beat like lvl 75 boss if i remember correctly and a lot of people died and yea so each boss would be harder which would take probably another few years to get to lvl 100 since some people would die and you would have to gear up new people but we all know what they did it SAO that ruined that. MMO's are about progress get gear whit a lot people and kill big boss.

I felt weird about the second season's art. Some of the characters look really bland and well badly drawn compared to how they looked in the first season. I'm not sure how to add pictures here, but do a quick google search and you will see some pretty disgusting differences in character designs.

I liked the first season of log horizon, the second season sucked a fat one for about 10 episodes when they focused on those horribly boring children. The first part of season 2 was kinda cool, and the last 4 episodes reminded me why I liked it. I was very close to dropping, but now I'm looking forward to a season 3.

I get that its kinda weird that no one's trying to escape, but if you remember in SAO, no one was panicking when they first realized there wasn't a way to log out, they were just confused. It was only after Kayaba told everyone they were trapped and could actually die that people freaked out.

In LH everyone is just confused as to how they got there and trying to learn about the world rather than panic. Plus, since they can die, its less of a feeling of being trapped and more just a feeling of confusion. Lots of people are unhappy and pissed off that they are stuck in this world (they expand on that in season 2 a little) and they actually are looking for a way to get home. Its just not as clear cut as to how they can do that like it was in SAO and there isn't as much pressure.

S2 art is closer to the source material than S1. To me it is S1 that drastically changed the character designs.

I like Log Horizon because I am into mmorpgs (although I haven't got time for any as of now) and so the whole concept is just exciting to me. I mean as a child I grew up wanting to literally get sucked into Runescape so I always had though about this and it kinda stuck with me.

But as others said it's more about adjusting to the current world they are in. However I will point out that with SAO death meant death in real life whereas in Log Horizon death doesn't end their actual life so spawns a completely different view in the eyes on the characters from each series.

I guess the only reason I feel weird about it is that they didn't really... make any progress. Like, they're just trapped there and they don't really want to get out, they're just trying to figure out what's going on with the world. And so it wasn't really completed, that's why it's weird.... and we feel dissatisfied.

Any minute now, this thread is gonna be a warzone of haters and fanboys. Well, the difference is that in SAO, they were given a clear objective of how they can get out of that nightmare. In Log Horizon, they never knew how to get out so they had no choice but to adapt to their new environment.

As for me, I'm an MMORPG player myself and my first reaction after getting trapped in my favorite game would be "SH*T! I DON'T KNOW WHAT JUST HAPPENED BUT MIGHT AS WELL ENJOY THIS WHILE IT LASTS."
