Are people impressed when a young person (like teenager, for instance) is eloquent, and posts like a writer?

You know, when they use big words, and write 1000 miles long posts...

I remember I was kinda like that too, up to 2009, I guess; but now that I think about it, it was probably waste of time, and nobody read it anyway - just like I didn't read other people's long and deep posts. :(

At that time I thought I was cool in the eyes of other users...

These days I prefer not to write so much, and I kinda consider big words that no one actually uses to be...
Well, funny and unnecessary, I guess...

What about now?
Is current generation of people under 20 good enough at writing that they can attract you to read their posts, even if they are in gigantic tl;dr zone?

If it isn't interesting, than regardless of how eloquent their grammar is, I won't read it.

1000 miles long post aren't eloquent. It means they can't say anything without making a damn wall of text. Most do not have time for that shit on the internet.

No, because it just means they aren't retarded. It shouldn't be special that someone has gone to school and actually learned something.

I tend to write longer posts, however I also read longer posts so I don't have a problem with it (and I do accept that most people won't take the time to read my posts either unless it really grinds their gears).

As for using bigger words, if I ever do it is just because "bigger words" usually have subtly different meanings, so I don't have to use 3 words instead of just one (that being said, I don't actively search for "big words", so I only use big words I already know). But do I think that makes me look smart? No. I also use "their" and "there" as if they meant the same damn thing, and ". . ." I practically use as a comma. If I truly wanted to look smart I would probably pay attention to grammar too, but couldn't be bothered. As long as my spelling/grammar is better than MAL's Imperial Shogun, I'm fine.

Eh, a couple years ago I used to be like that and tried to impress people by showing them how "mature for my age" I was, but now I just get an impression of pretentiousness from that kind of thing.

It doesn't matter. If a younger person knows how to be eloquent, good for them. I respect people who make an effort to not look like an illiterate philistine, but the degree of my respect isn't affected by their age as long as they're genuine.

I'm not sure what the meta is at the moment for post length. Probably one liners.

For the most part it depends on the user for me, though. If it's a user who's posts I enjoy reading I'll read it. If it's a new face I give em about a paragraph. If it's good shit I'll keep going. Age doesn't have much to do with it, although you can kinda tell if they're young a lot of the time anyway and I'll leave deciphering a text blob of yuck to the grade school teachers more often than not.

Most people, when they see someone younger than them talking or writing in a way that seems like they are/are trying to be an intellectual use their age as a logical fallacy to remind themselves that the younger person is in fact inferior to them. It's a superiority complex thing.

When a young person tries and fails to appear an intellectual, that's simply what it is, obvious failure to someone more experienced. Sometimes though, they really are just more experienced and enlightened in life than somebody ten years their senior, and many people don't like to see that because it makes them feel severely inadequate and behind in life, so cognitive dissonance sets in, barriers rise, excuses come up and "You don't know what you're talking about you little shit wait until you get older".

A completely irrelevant logical fallacy. Always attack the argument and not what's around it. If you attack the argument successfully and logically and the little kid starts being illogical, congratulations, you're probably superior. If you attack the person based on their age without referring to their argument, you're at least behaving inferior at that moment, but it's usually impossible for people to see that kind of thing within themselves. Dissonance, learn to get past it, enrich your life. Be science.

I'm impressed some of the times. It's not that I feel jealous, but it gets kind of annoying reading super long posts with large words. You're just sitting there reading it and you're like "this can be simplified". If they are actually a good writer as in a person writing a wonderful story, then I'm good with that.

If the teenager writes a novel, sure.

If the person makes a post on a forum that feels like a novel, then hell no.
I would probably consider the teenager to be a pretentious little twat.

I find it easier to take those teenagers seriously. If there's a long wall of text, I'll only read it if the grammar is correct and the vocabulary used is ample. At least enough to not make the text read redundant. I admire this trait. I've learnt a lot from these people that other commoners might call 'pseudo-intellectual'. I do also tend to write longer posts but only if I'm in the mood.

No because I can do it too when I have to ( like homework). I never write walls of text on MAL ( unless it's a blog entry ) because I won't be taken seriously anyway so I'd be just a complete waste of time.

The only site I would writes wall of texts is on deviantArt, because people there won't be like the assholes on MAL who tell me "Oh, you're well-educated on a topic? YOU'RE YOUNGER THAN ME SO I REFUSE TO BELIEVE YOUR ARGUMENT THAT MAKES SENSE". But then again, I made my age non specified so that's probably the reason.

This.

MAL is one of those places on the net where it doesn't matter how mature or eloquenty you act/talk. If you're a minor, either no one's going to respect you or they'll just treat you like any other MAL plebian.

Usually its the latter, but there are many cliques here so it just depends.

Experiencing something doesn't mean you're doing it right. In every case, an average adult's life experience teaches you less about life than a book.

That doesnt matter
A 27 year old has had more time to learn and speak to different people and do new things than a 17 year old so therefore they have more life experience
teenagers arent even fully grown and mature, its ridiculous to give them that much credit

Depends on what the person is writing about. I remember when I was 12 years old and deep into roleplaying games that sometimes I would reveal my age and people were impress that a 12 year old can write the way that I do. It wasn't anything special but people seem genuinely impress that a teenager could write a paragraph of fiction. Some people even called me a ninja because I just accepted grown up stuff. People are weird man.

It takes some people 5 seconds to accomplish what others take 50 years to understand. While the probability that a random 27 year old is wiser than a 17 year old is higher, it's not always the case.
Also this.

You don't have to be an adult to be wise, and experience is not always the best teacher.

Going back to the OP, the best way to know if someone is smart is to pay attention to how they talk. You can figure out a lot about someone just by observing and analyzing how they talk, and then making a deduction off of it.

A lot of adults on the internet have mistook me for someone who is 20+ when I'm really 15, lol.

Writing is made to transmit an idea to a reader. Obfuscation through needless verbosity 'Eloquence' might help some people take you seriously but likely isn't going to make you friends or impress people. I would know.
Now you're wondering if there's white text in any of my other posts.

Over there, I'm everywhere. I know that.

That's generalizing quite a bit.

I'm not saying I had perspective when I was 16, but I wasn't in high school at the time, I was in college, and there were a lot of other 16 year olds going to college with me.

At least one of them was smarter than your average 30 year old.

I don't think length in and of itself is an indicator. I'm far more likely to read a long post if it has decent spelling/grammar and uses paragraphs. (seriously, break up your text people!) I tend to be turned off by extremely long posts regardless of their quality just because I don't come here to participate in debates that would be at home in published academia. It also often comes across as "trying too hard".

aloricg said:

This is generally how I feel about it, although some rare talent may be able to seduce me with their writing on occasion. Oh, and I appreciate a bit more length than "+1!!!" most of the time.

Impressed for about a minute and then you realize it isn't that impressive in the real world. Making money and improving your wealth is all that matters.

You can write nice, cute but can you live off that? Can you sustain yourself with that talent?

Odds are no.
