| Did I miss something, but what happened to the spacewoman from the future? I spent about an hour wondering when she'd finally appear in someone's body. It looked like she went into Libia but nothing seemed to come of it. I figured she'd just died en route (haha) but hmm no. Oh right, they weren't conscious of being possessed and the timetravellers could only passively observe no that's not right at all. Ho hum. It was OK, a fair number of funny moments. I enjoyed the irreverent tone at the start but felt this ended up with similar problems as 1001 Nights; they were trying to squeeze in all the plot elements of a long traditional story, inserting humourous parts along the way. So it's neither a full-on comedy or properly involving epic (though this was better and nowhere near as choppy). |

| Kind of interesting when it would focus on the story of Cleopatra but it's very unfocused and spends most of the first half indulging in whims. Even this tendency towards weirdness was more than fine when it served a purpose, like the kabuki-style portrayal of Caesar's assassination, but more often it has no apparent end, like the entire sci-fi frame story. One result of this is that the film's too damn long. This dispersion of effort is especially strange given how much care went into certain historical aspects of the story; the deliberate anachronisms like cigars and refrigerators notwithstanding. The rivalry between Ptolemy and Cleopatra, Cleopatra being smuggled into Caesar's residence, Ptolemy drowning in the Nile, Caesar's seizures, and a number of other things are all historical. |
| Unique, very original and interesting. I found the strange sense of humor a tad disconcerting to be honest; the sudden cameo by Astro Boy for example was completely unexpected. Definitely something that could only have been made back in the 70's. |

| Pretty alright overall. The best part was definitely the style, reminded me at the Lucky Luke movies I was watching as a child. |

| This movie is insane, Pure Psychedelia. Like after seeing the 1001 nights movie a day before (a movie that got crazy during the middle sections), I was expecting some Psychedelic imagery from this presumed Historical porn from the early 70s, but nothing made me prepared for the bizarre initial minutes, let alone the rest of the movie. It begins with the literal opposite of a history pic, the images of deep space, going to a futuristic city in a planet named Passatorine, to a first person vision of a woman going to a room with has two guys waiting her arrival (those characters being real life bodies with Rotoscoped faces), said woman is immediately annihilated to dust by a unexpected laser, but fear not gentlemen, that woman was a spy from this planet resistance of earth's colonization efforts, and the real woman was already in other room, talking about that resistance, they are doing a operation called "Cleopatra Plan", and the trio will have finding out about what that plan is about. If you guessed that they would be soul time traveling to Cleopatra's time to find out about that plan, you would be strangely correct, and so the main story begins. From then on we have; The occupation of Julius Ceasar in Egypt being so surrealist bloody, that is a clear critic to the Vietnam War (and maybe of USA occupying Okinawa too); The Caucasian guy from the trio possessing the pet tiger of Cleopatra (he even had offspring during that time); Because of the other guy from that trio knowing about technology, the Romans now have a bunch of machines from modern times, like Grenades and Automobiles; The already mentioned Kabuki interpretation of Ceasar's death; Mark Anthony Referencing Napoleon before going campaigning, a future leader that would idolize Julius Ceasar, WTF; During the Battle of Actium, a commercial airplane and the Apollo 11 passes by in the sky because why not, right? and that is only six things that happened, I didn't even mentioned the special quest appearances of popular manga characters from that time, here's the list of them: Charlie Brown from The Peanuts (for him being here, he should be included in the characters part of this anime), Iyami from Osomatsu-kun, Bakabon and his dad from Tensai Bakabon, being oppressed by the roman soldiers in Egypt. Kamui from Kamui Den, he is a ninja for Julius Ceasar. Sazae Fuguta from Sazae-san, Hige Oyaji from the Tezukaverse, and Sayuri Yoshinaga from Harenchi Gakuen, celebrating the coronation of Cleopatra and peace with the Roman forces. Atom from Astro Boy, appearing to save the Gladiator dude from that monster, but afterwards that monster was head shoted by said gladiator, so the help of his was not needed. Nezumi Otoko from GeGeGe no Kitaro, a messenger for Mark Anthony this time around. and finally, the samurai Rabid Dog from Muyonosuke (2021 Update: I thought he was Ittou Ogami's Lone Wolf & Cub, but I was wrong), by that point I was think that Yabuki Joe or somebody from Cyborg 009 would appear before the movie's end, it didn't happened sadly. After their lifelong adventure in late antiquity, the trio returns to future, where they pretty much guessed the Resistance's plan by what Cleopatra had done to destroy Mark Anthony's power and Sanity (literally fucking his army), I would question why the resistance would use a plan that was useless during that time too (knowing that Cleo's Death, Ancient Egypt would be occupied for other nations for hundred of years after), not work on a entire freakin' planet, and be normal assimilation akin to the American Colonization anyway, if not the fact the trio of protagonists' memories hasn't changed whatsoever by their 15-ish years in the past was a much bigger problem, they should had forgotten about the mission in the first place and the Caucasian guy should be acting like a tiger, heck that would have been a really funny way to end the movie, much better than the one we got, were the Earth oppressors won. With that all been said, I ask this question for the peeps who are experts on old Anime & Manga, was Octavian Augustus from this animation film, the first, without any doubts about it, gay person in Anime & Manga? legitimately curious if there was a older known character. |

| I found this awful, it was like some one took those old unfunny playboy/penthouse comics and made a poorly written cartoon out of them. After the first of the three films in this series I was expecting a lot more than this. Also, I have no idea what the comment above me is talking about, this wasn't psychedelic at all. |

| That was sadly significantly worse than the first Animerama film. No more creative direction with 3D scenes an real-life shots, mostly lame intimate scenes, uninteresting characters, no development for ~half of the movie, etc |
| I actually enjoyed this film quite abit more than I expected. It's not a great film but it has its charm. The animation is really nice, especially some of the backgrounds which are stunning, and some of the more artistic scenes were really amazing. I though the massacre near the start, where Cleopatra runs away down a tunnel to the Nile, was incredible. Depicting everything you need to know visually and yet it was so beautiful, I really loved that sequence. I also found alot of the visual gags quite funny and some of the more strange cameos quite humorous. It's fair to say that there is plenty that falls into the tasteless category too though. But yeah I didn't intend to watch this film today, I just received the Discotek Blu Ray and put it in the BD player to just check the quality. But with the opening sequence completely going against what I expected I found myself drawn into it. Before I knew it I had watched the first 10 minutes or so and the cast were on their way to ancient Egypt and I figured I may as well just watch the film now since I have the time. Especially since if I didn't it could have been a few years before I decided to eventually pop it in the BD player again. While I could totally understand someone not liking this movie, and I do think the second half was abit less interesting than the first, I personally quite liked it. It usurped my expectations by quite abit and that was cool. I gave it a 7/10, it's a rather strange but good film. |
| This is very similar to Senya Ichiya Monogatari (both being from Mushi Production) but depending on how you look at it, it's either better or worse. I liked the setting of Egypt during Caesar's Roman Republic period but I hated the unnecessary mix of futuristic time travel. One scene that bothered me the most was when Ceaser out of a sudden pulled out a gun. An actual handgun in the 1st century BC, seriously!? There were more scenes that were more or less as bad, like for example that awkward looking mix of live action bodies with animated heads. It would be a drag to nit pick every scene I disliked but my point is that this movie gave me more reasons to hate it then to actually enjoy it. It was also hard to take the plot seriously and to be invested in the story when it tries way too hard to be a goofy comedy. Compared to Senya Ichiya Monogatari the art style is pretty much the same as far as I can tell. The animation is better and it looks much more smooth. The H scenes are slightly better but it still shouldn't be classified as "hentai" with it being again mostly just nudity and implied sex. The only thing I liked were the parade scenes right before the gladiator fight. They looked pretty cool with how the art style keept changing every few seconds, it was the best part of this movie in my opinion. |

| Should have the comedy tag, because that shit was absolutely hilarious at times, and I don't mean hilariously bad either (though it has it's moments), just genuinely and surprisingly funny. The nonsensical story gets a little convoluted in the second half, other than that, it was not too bad. It's not as experimental as Belladonna of Sadness was, but it displayed some strange and similar techniques used. This was a film that was obviously not meant to be taken too seriously. 7/10. |
