Damn, what an chapter and cliffhanger there. So Mutsuki really is a girl huh? This Torso investigation got a whole lot more interesting..

Kinda curious to see these Quinckes soon too.

I am interested in what Akira said " You guys probably haven't seen Sasaki fight all out before" then she said "Don't become like that".

I am pretty sure its confirmed that Torso isn't Tsukiyama now but a all new character if it was, Hinami would of acted familiar around him since she knows Shuu.

I am also very interested bc as always sensei is being ambiguous,
did she mean how Sasaki fought with the kagune, with the quinque with both of them?
Or what she was trying to say with the sentence you are not ghouls, its that Sasaki is???
I think there is a possibility that we will see Sasaki fight, since the next chapter is called Torso's fear.

hey just ocurred to me...we will have a love triangle with touka, mutsuki and Sasaki???

I knew she was a girl! And people where telling me she wasn't. Good chapter. I think I know what this is going to lead up to. I think Torso who is actually Tsukiyama I think.... Will engage in a battle with Kaneki "I'm just going to call him by that name, and he will recognize his scent and that's how news is going to spread. And then Touka and everyone else will come back into picture. Well, that's how I think things will play out.

This is just my stupid speculation. I could be totally wrong if Torso is not who I think he's, but for now I'll go along with this.

Good chapter though, this chapter went by pretty fast though. :(

@Acernos
I feel that way as well, which is great I like those type of series.

Great chapter. Yeah I agree Hinami probably would've talked differently to Torso if it was Tsukiyama. Still, it doesn't really confirm or deny either way and I feel like if Torso was just some random new villain we would've seen him by now.

On another note looks like Mutsuki is in fact, a girl. No talk of cross dressing, wasn't used for bait like some of the pre-translations suggested, lol. Again I think this makes her character more interesting and I'm glad we're getting more female main characters right off the bat in :re.

So Quinckes are not technically ghouls and are still considered human. I'm thinking this is probably why Sasaki is part of Mado squad and not Quinx, since you know, half ghoul and all. Also makes sense why the investigator in the first chapter singled out Sasaki/Kaneki, saying "oh, I've heard about you" etc.

@Acernos: Yeah I'm actually liking all the investigation going on in this arc. Since this is the introductory arc to :re I'm glad the pace is a bit slower, ease you into it after all the craziness at the end of TG.

Mutsuki is a girl ~~~~ !! I didn't believe it at first when ppl said she was indeed a girl in the spoiler but when I reread the past chapters, she really did manifest feminine gestures in some of her scenes

I thought this arc gonna be a quite boring but I actually enjoyed it and now eager to have this Torso identity revealed real soon, with all the teasing and light atmosphere in this arc is pretty entertaining and a good way for the readers to warm up to the new characters.

And I think I figured out a little bit of Shirazu character, although he appears as wild and straightforward, he's actually a.. soft hearted person inside and a quite considerate to other people, like how he reacted to the photos of the victims, Urie's 'kindness' and how he actually took Sasaki's words to work in team. Quite gullible I think ? that's probably why he was easily deceived by Urie.

I knew Mitsuki was a girl, she was acting just a bit too effeminate to be a guy. Doesn't matter though, Kaneki belongs to Rize.

Anyway, it was a nice chapter, albeit shorter, i believe. I'm guessing next time Torso will get wrecked and we'll finally know who he is, if we even know him (not Tsukiyama for sure). Urie's seriously starting to annoy me, he needs a wake up call bad. I'm guessing by "him" Hinami was referring to Kaneki? Akira's statement about a serious Haise is also curious. In short: so many questions with each chapter...

4/5. Did anyone catch any easter eggs by Imperial Scans, by the way?

of course as not as directly it seems, but you can definitely see the differences compared to the first couples chapter of TG. And am I the only one who notice how shonen-ish these chapters are ? Nothing wrong about that but imo it was intentionally done by the author to start off the sequel in slightly less tension and on a lighter tone.

Well it was my random thought while reading :re.

finally we're gonna get some torso action. very exciting. hopefully the Sasarious One will come to save Mutsuki's day. tbh, i don't have a good feeling about Mutsuki as an in-field investigator. i mean Donato visibly scared the shit out of her in the prison. So i kinda think she'll freeze up for sure against a ghoul like Torso, on the street..or in this case, taxi backseat.

also, hinami confirmation was sweet. I wonder how much more skilled she is as a ghoul now that she is in Aogiri.

Lol even Torso couldn't figure out if Mutsuki is a guy or girl. So she's a girl? It was the more obvious but Ishida had us on a rope lol

I guess the girl at the start of the ep really was Hinami :( well she was thinking about Ken so hopefully she hasn't changed on the inside >.<

I really am interested to see Haise fight seriously now that Akira hyped him up. Poor him though, still looking for his missing underwear XD

if we talk about shounen, then Tokyo Ghoul had more shounen elements than the current sequence, honestly, I can not understand where you see this lighter tone, it's just because we're not seeing m protagonist screaming and crying?

Based on next chapter's title "Torso's Fear" - Torso will see the eyepatch and smell Kaneki on Mitsuki then go insane and leave, allowing her to survive.

I hate those 2 guys more every time I see them, someone put them in their place already :)(

Who? Kanae? he's not Shuu, he's a new character, why would the author change Shuu's look now?

Shuu has been morphed by his insanity after Kaneki left, further evidence is last weeks chapter with all the HUGE hints that torso=shuu.
We probably won't see torso's face next week either.

Even if that's not Tsukiyama, Torso is almost definitely not him. Hinami referred to him as Torso, not as Tsukiyama. They also don't act alike at all, and we know Torso has been working as a Taxi driver for 5 or 6 years according to this chapter. There really aren't any "Huge" hints that Torso is Tsukiyama.

Great set up chapter. Seems like Hinami think about Ken. Got some insight on what the quinckes are. Akira said something very interesting. "You never seen Sasaki go full out before?" Damn I wonder how he uses a quinque. Does he match up to Arima? Dat ending was great not only was I right...... I mean find out that Mutsuki is really a girl. She has found Torso. Can't wait for next week.

I personally think it's to each own how to feel about this arc. I definitely see it in a less tense view. Thrilling, mysterious and suspense, yes it is. but I didn't feel the tension yet and I don't think it's a bad thing for me to enjoy TG:re in this mood and I'm actually liking it.

And those expressions of the characters did contribute into what kind of atmosphere I wanna feel in reading since they are supposed to deliver what emotions and situation they are in. So, in a way I dont mind seeing cries or screaming in any scene to tense up the story.

Sorry but I dont understand the last line. Are you saying that we cannot go deeper in the story just because it's presented as in lighter tone to me ?

Anyways, imo it's up to the readers how to interpret the mood and atmosphere of their reading materials depending on their perspectives and views on certain topics or situations, also where we put our utmost attention while reading. in my case seeing the characters interact and handling their situation with jokes and all had me enjoyed reading :re in brighter note.

Well ofc the plot can develop into something more darker and more tension, complicated as the story unfolds one by one later.

well, it's like you said, it varies from reader to reader, basically I do not feel that these chapters have shade lighter than the old serie, especially when we focus on those parts that involve research on Torso, the construction of the psychological profile him, his obsessions about the victims, etc, I really feel a heavy atmosphere created when Sasaki rise an psychological profile of him, perhaps what bothered me was that you have compared to shounen, since I read many shounen, and I can tell that after first chapter the series followed a course more focused in investigation.

well, since this is all personal opinion, it makes no sense to continue with it.

That girl in the cab seems to be Hinami. I hope she hasn't actually defected to the bad side..

Team Sasaki's investigation is going pretty good. So, Torso targets women with scars? Interesting..

Sasaki vs. Torso next? It'll be pretty awesome to see him fight seriously for the first time.

So that girl is Hinami, I knew it. I'm really curious about her reasons for joining the Tree, and I'd also like to know more about the Tree of today. Are they really still the bad guys? They do know about Torso, and don't do anything about him.
So to me it's pretty much confirmed now that Tsukiyama isn't Torso. They look completely different and Torso's been a taxi driver for 5-6 years. Hinami acts much too distant towards him too.

More and more likely that Torso isn't Tsukiyama, but still someone associated with Aogiri.

Also Sasarious noting right of the bat that his favourite pantsu is missing. Urie and Shirazu are in trouble if he finds out it was traded

I'm still not convinced about the Mutsuki being a girl bit, cause apparently from the original scans the phrase used was very ambiguous and could be read as both ways....

I already knew that girl was Hinami so that was no surprise but that USB definitely got my attention. And looking at their interaction it seems Torso isn't Tsukiyama so I believe Torso is one of the ghouls that escaped from Kokuria. Torso seems to have been taking pictures like Chie as well but we don't know what pictures they were. Perhaps Aogiri Tree gave Torso the task to find potential candidates for the half ghoul experiment. And Hinami still misses her oni-chan.

Shirazu is a cool dude and his poses were kind of hilarious. Urie is still the usual cocky asshole so I can't wait to see him getting smacked by Torso. More information regarding the quinques and quinckes were given thanks to Akira.

I didn't expect Mutsuki to be a girl. That basically blew my cross dressing theory but I'm glad it did because that makes her more interesting.

Acernos said:

Yeah I found this theory more believable. She did say something about how she knows those eyes of the predators. Perhaps she got sexually assaulted in the past and now because of the past trauma she dresses as a man. Its probably her own ways to protect herself.

What surprises me is that how could some people think Torso is Nishiki? I mean did they even read Tokyo ghoul properly? Seriously some of those theories are hilarious as fuck. And lol at Sasaki troubled over his missing ENERGY boxers.

I don't think that Torso is Tsukiyama, but it's not because of Hinami attitude. She's much older, more serious, she's with Aogiri and works with Ayato. I believe that she's not sweet, good girl like she used to be, but someone even stronger than Touka in TG ;D However, on the other side, Touka went with Yomo, so she must have improved somehow.

It's to early for Sas to meet with his past. I believe that first he will learn more about CCG, Aogiri, etc. before he reunite with Kaneki ;D

Well I never said anything that only with cries and screams to have it darker or more tragic or anything. Those are only example of expressions where it blatantly manifests the mood of story so if the story is presented n such a way I feel brighter and light note, it shouldn't be a problem for me to read it on the same wavelength right. maybe it's just me, but the vibe of the Quinx squad gave me the shonen-ish feel and I think it kinda fits the Quinx members to have this younger feel to them(although we might see something more heavy and deeper in their characters later)

I don't know if it bothers ppl that much with the way I read :re but reading this in a lighter tone or having the shonen-ish feel doesn't mean it takes away the all meaning of the story and I never read TG for its demographics or how dark it is. Anyhow with how the investigatory phase we are in now, it reminds me of Detective Conan manga and I really like it. Ishida likes trolling us...so I'm not going to be surprised if Haise isn't Kaneki. The fact he is making it so obvious makes me feel that way. Like, if your going to drop so many hints, why not tell us? Ishida will probably keep building on the fact that his audience thinks Haise is Kaneki and then boom 70 chapters in, Haise isn't Kaneki xD In any case I miss Touka-Chan T.T

That's not really anything new. Ishida did the same with Takatsuki by giving so many obvious hints that pointed towards the fact that she was Eto but people still doubted and kept doubting it until chapter 142 happened.

of course as not as directly it seems, but you can definitely see the differences compared to the first couples chapter of TG. And am I the only one who notice how shonen-ish these chapters are ? Nothing wrong about that but imo it was intentionally done by the author to start off the sequel in slightly less tension and on a lighter tone.

Well it was my random thought while reading :re.

In another forum I mentioned the changed of the art style.
It is very very shonen like, I don't know if he does it, so the drawing go into context of a light story, the thing is I am not happy.
His drawing before had detailed on it, but now its like for example, he didn't even bother to draw a nose and a mouth to urie.

I actually think he drawing style has improved a lot. Back in the original chapters of TG I think the drawing was a bit messier and more cluttered. Everything seems to be spaced better now and cleaner, just my opinion.

you thinking too much dude, you see her boobs man pls thats definetly a girl.

What i think gonna happen next chapter is that Sasaki ''ken'' is going to fight torso but also Urie this fucking wanna be thug that think is strong with his 'Quinckes' gonna see Sasaki fight torso and gonna shit himself. Urie will become sasaki pet, sorry im getting caried away cuz of his attitude D:

im joking about urie becoming sasaki pet but i hope he see sasaki going crazy so he can shut up and listen for a sec

I dunno man...it could also be a padded bra? I'll give it a few more chapters before I decide on Mutsuki's gender.

But yeah Urie def needs a doze of Sasarious. He talks too much

There are definitely some... curves of hers on page 18, and I don't think it's just the bra :P On pages 17 and 18 she looks very deliberately feminine to me.

Can someone explain which part of the art is "shonen like"? This is a new term I've been seeing these few days.

This is my take, I could be totally wrong, but a shonen has less detail, less realism while drawing the characters.
"It's like Tolstoy said. Happiness is an allegory, unhappiness a story"

"And the sense of tragedy-according to Aristotle.comes, ironically enough, not from the protagonist's weak points but from his good qualities. Do you know what I'm getting at? People are drawn deeper into tragedy not by their defects but by their virtues"

Kafka on the shore by Haruki Murakami...the man that was the inspiration for Sen Takatsuki

I don't but that's subjective since that would make the prequel a shonen because of the art and characters. But lets forget about that since its something that can be discussed later.

Yeah okay but what about the fact that in the original text Mutsuki refers to themselves as "Ore" or that he went to a male bathroom in chapter 2? AND the fact that Sasaki refers to him as well, he...

I'm still not sure about it but this could be a very likely possibility:

theory, I believe Mutsuki suffered rape or other violation, and because of this
she disguises herself as a man and realized every intention from Torso through of the look.

Yeah I found this theory more believable. She did say something about how she knows those eyes of the predators. Perhaps she got sexually assaulted in the past and now because of the past trauma she dresses as a man. Its probably her own ways to protect herself.

And she probably has a different persona just like Kaneki. This is just a guess because I could be very wrong lol.

It kinda spices up the story and it let people experience a variety of moods and atmospheres of the manga.

Okay okay, but I believe the mood is still there, just a bit more underneath the surface. The Quinx squad, a group of young people, I get where you're coming from, but that doesn't make it shounen to me. The art style is still very much like TG, although I feel Ishida's improved a lot. I'm sure that the story will soon get going and all the shounen-ish feels will be gone, but that won't make it better or worse. But anyway, as you said, it's not about being dark, or the demographics, it's just a really good story.

No biggie just feel free to disagree. It's a discussion after all.

anyway back to the story, now all those theories about Torso's and Serpent's identities kinda messed me up.

but for now I'll just go by that Serpent = Nishiki, on revenge search for Torso due to Kimi's death.

I guess Kimi is one of Torso victims; scars and Torso's preying place being at hospital, are linked to Kimi at some point. I'm not really sure but it is said in wiki that Kimi was apart of the medical department at her university so it does make sense she'd be around hospital and ended up being his target.

As for Torso... I hope it's gonna be a new character because it will be a quite sadistic if Tsukiyama was the one who killed Kimi.

lastly, I hope none of my theories turn out to be right or anything since I really like Kimi :/ but Ishida can be... cruel to his characters sometime.

in the double page spread, i think that there is a number 1 on torsos eyes. i might have gotten confused with the goat eyes but i think those are definitely numbers in his eyes
