I believe that's the person that's signed on to do the soundtrack to Gundam: G no Reconguista, just thought I'd throw that out there.
And what is it with fandoms increasingly narrow and generic taste in music and it's particular obsession with this idea of Yuki Kaijura and Hiroyuki Sawano as the only possible good or noteworthy composers. As a long time aficionado of anime OST's I find it kind of insulting that people always seem to be insinuating these two are the flat out best and how they're the only two people seem to care about and continually putting on a pedestal. Honestly neither Fate/Zero nor this are even their respective composers best works by a long shot and pretty phoned in at that. People really need to start broadening their horizons when it comes to anime soundtracks a little more cause this whole Sawano/Kaijura worship is getting really bloody old and just continues to show me that people really have no appreciation for anime music at all. There's far too much good stuff out there for it to forever be all about these two.
I agree wholeheartedly. I personally really dislike Sawano’s work, and while I think Kajiura can be alright, she has been incredibly repetitive recently.
While I don’t like Sawano at all, and could probably write an essay as to why, I can see how people like his music, and don’t really have a problem with other people enjoying his music. Everybody has different genres that they like.
My main issue with Sawano supporters is where they proclaim time and time again that his work is best, and that people who disagree are wrong, and stupid. All the while, they cannot explain exactly why Sawano is the absolute best, beyond that it sounds “epic” to them. I too, listen to many, many anime OSTs, oftentimes without seeing a single minute of the anime for which they are composed for. Without having the benefit of images and action accompanying a score the music I listen to really has to stand out for itself, and it is here where Sawano falls terribly flat for me. I personally got into orchestral music at a young age and thus pretty much all music that I like, from anime OSTs, to metal bands, generally have some sort of influence from classical music, especially music from the romantic period. If Sawano supporters incensed at my stance towards his work really wanted me to explain in depth, I could write up a long explanation detailing my position, something that I don’t really think they can do in return.
That is why, personally, I find composers like Yoshihisa Hirano, Michiru Oshima, Masamichi Amano, and other composers of music that take inspiration from classical styles and a heavy emphasis on themes to be ahead of Sawano.
I think it it’s worthwhile to repeat again that I have no qualms with other people liking Sawano. I simply believe that his music is not for me.
If anything, I am against people who blindly preach their word as fact, and bash others for pointing out the subjective nature of music.
