The baby face with that plump body and big breasts.

She's not supposed to look that way according to the manga.

Well, this is adapted from the LN and there really isn't a picture of her in the LN, so maybe the anime version is how she is supposed to be considering the character design for the anime and LN was made by the same person.

Though I would've preferred the manga version myself. In the anime, her looks and voice kinda pissed me off whereas from reading the LN, she seems like an OK character.

Well for me it's not just her looks, but something about the whole character bothers me. She just seems so...bland and irritating at the same time... I don't know :/

Yeah I too imagined her as this sexy teacher, which was delivered to me in the manga.

I must say I'm slightly pissed at this rendition of her in the anime. The voice actor doesn't sound right either, which sucks because I reckon they did really well with the rest of the cast.

They turned her into a moeblob character which is wrong in so many ways. Ono-sensei from from the manga (in that bodysuit) is way too hot.

I don't really mind if they make her a good moeblob, but this is too much. She looks too out of place among the cast, kinda like Yokkyun from TWGOK which was also voiced by her, though it was justified since she's a game character while Ono-sensei isn't.

In all honesty,I just see her as a pair of walking & talking tits.
As for her actual character,I don't know. There isn't much there so far.
My Devianart

Oh & Space Brothers is still the best anime ever,in my opinion.Even when competing with Attack on Titan.

I think it is more noticeable with the girls than with the guys, but the same problem effects both. It has to do I believe with how the characters line are drawn, and of course with women, there are more lines that have to be drawn (for the obvious reasons) so it is more noticeable with them. Ono-Sensei suffers the worse because she has the most distinctive lines.

On the Episode 8 thread yesterday I said that I thought the art was "flat". This was what I meant. The character drawings seem even more 2Dish than the normal animation, as if they were more triangles than cubes. This could be a matter of juxtaposition, in that the art for this show is generally better than the average animation, it could make the characters look flatter than they otherwise would be.

I hate to use breasts as an example, but as I said above it is most noticeable with lines. But all these pictures have to some respect the same issue with flatness.

^ yeah thissss I had the same problem with Tokyo Ravens and hell, even SAO's male char designs. I'm not fond of Mahouka's art style either, whether it's guys or girls. It should be something like Psycho Pass or Captain Earth.

This.

But Ono is on a whole 'nother level of weird : I know the uncanny valley doesn't really apply here, but that's the closest to the feeling I have whenever she's on screen. Something is off with her and I'm not sure what.

I also agree that the art style is excessively simplistic and the chara designs overall really lack relief.

Ya why the hell did they make her look so damn childish. Suppose to be a more mature person but now she looks like a little kid -.- The voice doesn't help either.

Other than the blob that is Ono, I find a certain charm to the rest of the character designs which are accurate to the novels illustrations. There is a good variety among them and I find them to be quite aesthetically pleasing. Plus the fluidity of the animation as well as the voice acting really bring them to life.

Art style is basically up to preference because I for one don't like the art for Ping Pong, but I wouldn't say it's trash. It's just an opinion. Anyways the problem I have for character designs is just only for Ono, the rest I feel are fine and great especially Erika.

Don't you find the art in ping pong oddly appropriate for the story it is telling?

I agree that most things can be passed off as opinion, but if everything is merely opinion then there really isn't any reason to discuss things, we can all just stay in our castle of "what I think is truth" and ignore one another. The fun isn't to just state one's opinion, but to think of that opinion and try to convince others that your opinion has validity.

Now take Aku no Hana, probably the one show that most people hated the art with a passion. Now, I thought the art was interesting and as such was in the group that didn't automatically dismiss it. But, in the end, I think the fans were right, it was the wrong art for the show. Aku no Hana is about decadence, which is about mainstream values being distorted, so the show should have gone for mainstream art, THEN distorted it. Distorting it from the beginning undercut the whole point of the series.

Ping Pong is about a subculture that it transforms into an edgy, man vs. man competition, so for me the edgy, sharp art is perfect for the story. Fluid animation with that story would have been completely wasted.

My biggest grip aside from Ono-sensei is that the clothes of the female uniform fail to capture the details of their body. Where are the shadows to depict the bust size of the female cast? Even the most well-endowed of them all still doesn't have depth in most scenes.

I know the art in Ping Pong fits the animation because in the manga it's just the same way, in which it's style expresses it's uniqueness. So I'm not arguing that the art doesn't fit the story it's telling because it does, just that I don't like it much. Though I still think it's unique. I also appreciate your response in conveying your opinion.

That explained my point better than I could. Now I can appreciate a show that wants to depreciate the sexualiztion of characters, but bad art is just bad art and that they turned Miyuki into an incest brother worshiping blank undermines the argument that they were trying to desexulalize the show.

Have a problem with how she's drawn as well, but the voice is more annoying.

I dunno, I've always found Miyuki to be pretty doll like. Even by how she was described in the light novels and portrayed in the manga. Also I think they've nailed her personality and behaviour.

Idk I just feel like the anime is much more doll like like the manga/LN. Like makes her look much more like her mother and her younger self in vol 8

I feel like they wanted her to be a loli but they couldn't make her a loli since she wasn't a loli so we get this kinda "older-loli hybrid abomination"...

Should of used the manga depiction.

It wasn't really explained well in the show(or at all), but there is a reason for the clothes. The leading cause of WW3 prior to the series was the global temperature drop(resulted in limited resources, famines, etc...)

Clothes gradually changed to cover as much skin as possible, and became slightly bulkier(which hides women's figures) to ward off the cold. Eventually, the practical reason for modifying the clothes evolved into a new "moral" dress code. People aren't supposed to show skin(or their figures) based on this new morality... unless you're at the beach :p That's why Tatsuya scolds Ono for her appearance when she calls him to her office, why he's so surprised to see Mayumi in a dress before leaving for the competition, etc.

OT, I agree about the complaints over Ono. When I was reading the novels I always pictured her as a mature, leggy, woman with a large chest.... the only part they got right was the large chest, but it just looks weird
