That was a fucked up murder, beating a girl with a hammer in front of many people, and they were just watching, not understand what was going on. If i remember correctly, that helmet also appeared in the first episode intro.

pretty brutal episode O__O

the guy just walked in the pharmacy and kill both workers with a pair of scissors and pen.

it's pretty fucked up on how the society just stood there watching the girl being beaten to death. once again, the system is very flawed with instances like this.

really love the music here!! so the helment copies once's Psycho Pass levels huh?

tbh i thought they were gonna shoot an eliminator with that asshole.

looks like Makishima can fight well huh? i can't say i feel sorry with that bat guy acting all tough. i wonder if Makishima killed the other two as well?

love the new ED animation with Akane art :)

more episode pleases!!

Another absolutely excellent episode, and damn, those were some brutal murders. Great action all the way through. The idea of the helmets is interesting, and was definitely used to great effect during that final action sequence. Seeing Makashima fight definitely made me think we are in for one awesome hand to hand battle between him and Ko by the time this series is over.

As always, something new to think about and some great world development here:

Awesome new OP vid, though still a horrible song :P New ED was alright, better than the one from the beginning of this season, anyway.

What the hell, people were filming when a woman was being killed! No one tried to help, I don't understand why...

Did you... watch the episode? They explained it pretty clearly...

The reason it did not turn into an eliminator is because that was not his CC, it was Ko's being copied by the helmet.

That was a thrilling episode beginning. To kill them with scissor and a pen, I though I was in Bakemonogatari xD

More seriously, that murder on the street was really disturbing. I mean I can understand being terrified, but not only nobody stood up to help, everyone that was looking at it jaded as if they were watching the TV news. It was shocking.

At first, I was thinking ''I hope they catch him alive so they can question him'', but now, I would have liked to see that dickhead explode in puree.

I agree with you, ao_no_exo, it's quite getting better (even though I liked it from the start, hehe).

Gosh, this episode was sure violent (not that I mind and I am certainly not complaining). But it was violent! I liked it as much as I thought I would. Also, some things are really predictable, while some others are not. Nonetheless, I don't mind when it's predictable so I'm not going to give this episode less points because of such a thing.

Makishima was great.
I know he is supposed to be the bad guy in the story, but let's face it: he does have a point, he actually has a very good point and if we look at it, the Enforcers do kill other people (and the system says who is passible of getting killed because of his/her crime coefficient and who's not, so itțs not exactly fair and we could actually talk about the fact that whether the moral premises of this system are true/correct or whatever...) what I'm saying is that I cannot so easily blame Makishima. I kind of like him and at some point I identify myself with him -haha, okay, more or less the psycho problem, but you know what I mean.
Plus, let's frigging face it, he was so fuuuuu- cool, beating the shit out of those guys. I LOVED HIM IN THIS EPISODE. I try not to be contradictory, and I know I won't probably like him up till the end, but he actually made a very nice episode. And he has a point, that's it.

Loved it!

This episode was really brutal, but still amazing. I found the lady being beaten to death the most disturbing, and I'm not usually too affected by violence. As much as I want to hate on the bystanders for not doing anything, I can't say I would be much different. I wouldn't go so far as videoing it, but it would be shocking. And I could be wrong, but I found their complete lack of reaction to be a bit unrealistic.
On another note: I hope we get to see Makishima fighting in later episodes, he was pretty badass in the end.

So sad to those victims. What a brutal killing. The scene wherin the crowd just watched a girl victim died in front of their eyes was awful.

I hate Sibyll System - but that ridiculous thing makes this show more thrilling or challenging.

Good thing that Kougami is so intelligent that he could sense the trick of a culprit.

Great episode, by the way.

I finished this series a a little while ago. The scene in this episode where the lady was beaten to death while the people passed by doing nothing to help really resonated with me, because it's a disturbingly accurate portrayal of our world today. There have been numerous reported cases where bystanders witnessed acts of violence happening to other people and did nothing to help, going as far as taking pictures of the incidents or tweeting about them. Sickening.

In this regard Makishima is right about the citicens having turned into mindless cheeps, who abide the rules of the system without questioning it, while submitting themselves to a carefree life freed of responsibility.

Same thoughts here. Makishima seems like an antagonist but his ideals are that of a protagonist.
So far, I'm loving the direction of the series. It keeps on getting better and better.

I think this show would do better taking a more psychological approach in the second half. That device that copies Psycho-Pass isn't very well thought out it just looks like they pulled that out of nowhere. I hope there's more to it than that...

Makashima was awesome again exposing the flaws of Sibyl system. He's easily the most intelligent of anyone despite being a complete psycho with his methods.

I agree their reaction was totally unrealistic as was the explanation they gave for it. No reason why they wouldn't still be horrified by someone being beaten to death in the street even if they wouldn't believe something like that could happen.

Yea the writer took it a bit to far.I could understand them being scared and not doing nothing but just to stare and give no emotion is really really hard to take seriously.I know in this world the system has to deem whos a bad guy but humans still have brains and this should trigger something.Like a yell or someone saying help or stop that. The excuse given was weak sauce. It also doesint make sense since we have seen other civilians who have reacted to death before. This is the only thing so far in the show that made me go "really no just no" and thats saying something for a show like this with all the future stuff.

This

Interesting idea but I still can't see any rational way it evaded Sybil scanners, why it was manufactured and how Mr. M got a hold of it. But whatever. I'm starting to root for Makishima; civilians are never totally innocent of the society they subject themselves to. Accept 1984, and better live with consequences...

As to the crowd debate, no way stress levels would have remained low as a whole, even if some were taking vids. You don't reverse 15 M years of evolution in one century.

rewatching

That girl getting killed in the middle of the street is one of the more memorable details in this anime... not because she was killed, but because nobody knew how to react.

I guess they don't have violent video games there either... Kagari mentioned that shooters exist in a previous episode... so I find it hard to believe that nobody knows what "getting killed" looks like.

Disturbing as hell to watch that woman just get murdered like that in front of everybody. That was like an even worse version of the bystander effect.

Makishima's right about the system and it definitely needs to be changed. I just don't like the methods even though they're very effective.

Very violent deaths in this episode o__o

"haha, hey, everyone, why not just stand around and watch this girl getting beaten to death by a creepy guy in a mask? It's so entertaining!! :DDDDD" (I am very well aware that similar situations could and DO happen irl...) That was a rather disturbing scene, but it was well executed, like scenes usually are in this show.

Also, Makishima's got some serious moves! The way he killed that guy with the baseball bat... Well, it was horrible, but awesome ._.

Maybe I understood now...
Makishima is probably someone who got his life destroyed by Sybil and wants to show everyone how that system sucks.
And probably the only way to do that is through murders, since everything revolves around the crime coefficient...

It was a weird reaction from the bystanders when that woman was being hammered. Could not fathom how their faces were expressionless.. Did not they teach them to always be prepared for the worst? Sooner or later, a tool like this was going to pop up to stand against the omnipotent and omnipresent Sibyl system and I really like the way how Shougo is fighting against it..

Shougo is cunning, clever, charismatic, athletic, skilled, an ace tactician, courageous and added to all this, he is handsome and is the arch nemesis of the CIDs :v.

Indeed. Perhaps I would've been also like them if I had been there. Kinda scared of myself.
Who wouldn't? A life without pain and misery would be fantastic.

Still a bit disgusted at the people not even caring for the girl. I thought the need to help other people was something we as humans act on by nature, that it's in our genes since long ago. Perhaps these people have adapted to their new world in such a way that it's no longer needed to help other people in a life or death situation..

Just like in real life. The guy assaults a woman with a hammer, and the only thing people do is use their phone to record it. So Makishima's plan is basically to increase the stress levels of everyone while these guys cause chaos and aren't detected by Sibel. They lose faith in Sibel and society goes back to giving everyone free will.

I'm really starting to understand Makashima and where he is coming from. He fascinates me. Society is pretty messed up if people can just stand and watch someone being brutally murdered in front of their eyes without doing anything about it. In contrast the things Makashima does is technically doesn't look "cruel" because everyone is so desensitized. The bystander effect at its worst. Honestly felt really bad for that woman who was getting beat up. Reminded me of the real life case of Kitty Genovese. Such a heinous crime.

Really looking forward to the coming episodes. Absolutely love the setting and the art style. Awesome!

Very cool episode, but not quite as awesome as some other ones we've seen. Having that guy murdered someone in the middle of the street without his hue setting off alarms was brilliant though. If Makashima keeps doing things like that it won't take any time at all for the masses to question Sybil. I'm surprised he hasn't done more public stuff like that already. ★4/5

Some episodes back, bystanders had a different reaction. During the episode where Rina was singing on stage at the bar, an enforcer came in to arrest a criminal. Then someone threw a bomb that caused a small explosion. This bomb scared the shit out of everyone and made them run as fast as they could.

Here in this episode, the bystanders are just emotionless. You would think the bystanders would at least be shocked that murder is happening. I'm dam sure that the bystanders know that danger isn't completely erased from society, that's why enforcers still exist to apprehend the criminals.
