Her father and those questions, you just cannot win.

Maro can jump pretty high. I just wonder how he will perform during the festival.

Great episode!!!

Maro & hachiken teamup got a good development for hachiken in this ep(although maro is an asshole horse). Horse ride sport seem very hard than it looks.

Funny throughout another great ep.

The only bone I got to pick is Aki's poor argument, which is not helping in my opinion and really gets on my nerve. Proof of a REAL expertise is how easy you can simplify and then explain that complex subject in simplified terms to others. Have anyone ever seen a doctor stumbling on his words during consultation? Or a lawyer telling you it's hard to explain in words? No, they will answer any questions upfront, then go into the details only if you ask. That's how you know they are experts in their field. I know this is only done for to fan the drama, but I still find it to be an annoying cliche in anime or Japanese TV shows.

Only in so far as part of a doctor's or a lawyer's expertise is explaining things to a client. There are other things which cannot be conveyed by words or text, but must be experienced and understood. This is particularly true of physical expertise, where words are pretty clumsy means of conveying the kinesthetic feel of a sport. The intuitive feel of being with the horse and working as a team is an important part of being able to jump, and if he can't realize that he has to establish that relationship, he won't be successful.
Yup. Also i gotta remind you that Aki is a teenage girl who already have a hard time explaining things to people, such as her emotional state. She never claimed to be an expert at anything...

She is still his sempai, but fair enough. I still think the "you won't understand even if I explain it" is a poor excuse and an annoying cliche.

One small step for Maron, one giant leap for Hachiken
Less screentime for Hachidog, but that was ok with more seriousness this time
There were still some good humor and light moments and Mikage seems closer to Hachiken now

Other highlights:
Beppu saved Hachiken again
Pony Takahara was such a boss on the track

I've been reading your reply again and again, and as I thought I still have a problem with that.

I have personally dealt with one or two teachers who treated their students just like that so I can attest to you that it does not work, at least not in the way you think. I think you are mistaking skill with understanding which is a very common mistake people make. Skill is something you can only gain by practise, so in this regard you are correct. The problem is you can't practise what you don't understand, and in fact it is detrimental towards your development if you keep flailing about practising the wrong things. Understanding is the abstraction and forming of ideas in your head. That part does not come through practise, only by thinking.

Some people can just happen to practise in the right way, and so their understanding developed side by side with their skill. People with a different mode of thinking however, will struggle, and it is precisely because they have different ideas from the former group that they struggle; they are practising the wrong things and will not improve no matter how much time/effort they spent.

Even in sports, where you claim the feel and kinesthetics are more important, a good instructor will still guide you through the correct posture and motion before leaving you to repeat the same range of motions again and again until you gain muscle memory. The reason they do this is because they know if left to your own devices you just flail about and improve at a very slow rate, if at all.

Does that mean Hachiken can't learn things on his own? Of course not, but by repeating the discovery process he will just struggle needlessly and not improve. He only succeeded after he gain understanding, by watching and talking with others who succeeded before him. By the way, it is no coincidence that he understood only after others shared their ideas with him, breaking him out of his standalone mode of thinking and finally giving teamwork a try, something Aki failed to do miserably. Was it that difficult to tell Hachiken he just need to work with his horse, and if he still does not understand, bring him to the competition? You managed to say it in one sentence, I managed to say it in one sentence, so it is not a difficult idea.

This show makes horses cool! (Can they really jump that high out of nowhere?)

Yes! The jumping lesson is totally realistic. I've had all those things happen. Hachiken has two runouts, because he doesn't have confidence in himself and the horse. He has a refusal, then Maron jumps from a stand and he falls off. When a good jumper launches himself from a stand like that, you need to be way forward on the horse's neck or you'll come off. Mikage sees it coming, as the horse goes back on his haunches to prepare for the jump, and warns him. I've stayed on through a launch like that, but I was lucky.

Riders really appreciate this episode. I send links to it to riding friends to who don't watch anime.

5/5

Episode that shows a further evolution of the protagonist and the long road that still needs to do in the new reality that you have chosen.
Great setting and plot of the narrative.
Cute the many comic moments during the narration, I smile a lot during the conversation between the father and Hachiken Mikage, even when he and Mikage reflected on the complex of the girl.
Drawings not bad, good animations. Nice the ending! : D

Good character development, especially w/ Hachiken. Love-love Mikage-papa.

Most of this episode gave me flashbacks to my horse riding fiction reading days as a kid. How-to-horse, thank-you-horse, horse-thanks-you. Then: jump!

I just noticed in the ED that you can kinda see the eyes of the pig teacher. She always has sunglasses on but in the ED she has clear glasses.
