Do they kinda ruin the show for you? Do they bother you? Do they not? Do you believe they're just poorly written ?
Also you can name a few anime characters you consider Mary Sue-ish

TV Tropes doesn't get to set what the term means; the best we can do is capture the way it is used. Since there's no consensus on a precise definition, the best way to describe the phenomenon is by example of the kind of character pretty much everyone could agree to be a Mary Sue. These traits usually reference the character's perceived importance in the story, their physical design and an irrelevantly over-skilled or over-idealized nature.

Aizen is the best example of a Mary Sue.

The prototypical Mary Sue is an original female character in a fanfic who obviously serves as an idealized version of the author mainly for the purpose of Wish Fulfillment. She's exotically beautiful, often having an unusual hair or eye color, and has a similarly cool and exotic name. She's exceptionally talented in an implausibly wide variety of areas, and may possess skills that are rare or nonexistent in the canon setting. She also lacks any realistic, or at least story-relevant, character flaws — either that or her "flaws" are obviously meant to be endearing.

???

who knows I don't look up bios of authors

Mary Sue-ish is okay.

A complete Mary Sue is annoying as hell.

Kenzo Tenma would be an example of a character who is Mary Sue-ish, yet he's still one of my favorite anime characters.

In my personal opinion Mary Sue-ish chars are those who are just perfect, they don't have a single important drawback and they almost always succeed in what they do...I can think of some shoujo anime guys that are marty stu-ish...Like that guy from Special A , he was like the genius of the school , perfect at everything.I can say that I hate this kind of chars because they're not realistic

I dont mind if a character is virtually perfect at everything they do, I find the personality is much more important.

Well, the best example I can think of is Lightning from FF, but thats not anime.

I don't recall any sticking out in anime, so I guess they are just forgettable.

I feel like the term "Mary Sue" gets abused. People paste the term onto characters so quickly and frequently that it's kind of lost its meaning for me.

It depends on the character. For example, Aizen and his marty stuish antics were simply boring. But, the main character from Kamen Rider Kabuto (non anime example) is a marty stue, yet entertaining and even decent one his backstory is made clear. It just depends on the character and how the writer treats said character IMO.

Kirito was only good in VR game. He was quite nothing in real life. He ain't 100% perfect.

Well, I think that a bit of Mary Sue is good for anime, but don't make it to be MC or make it like 100% everywhere perfect.

I don't really mind them. I'm sure I'd mind them if the actual definition was what it meant, but people throw it at any really skilled character and in that case, no.

A Mary Sue never exists in real life.

I prefer them over stupid characters...
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

I think not even the fact that he was a beta tester can excuse the fact that he

Kirito is basically a wish fulllfilment character, a cardboard cutout onto which teenage boys can project their own fantasies of saving the world (despite the fact that their only skill is being good at video games) and having a super hawt badass girlfriend (who doesn't actually do anything useful) and having a harem of girls love you for no discernible reason.

I think Asuna was more marysue-ish than Kirito. She didn't even look pale or malnourished or anything unhealthy after being in a coma.

That's because girls in anime always have to be gorgeous - even if they've been a coma for years (lol, SAO) or stranded on a desert island without hygiene products (lol, Zetsuen no Tempest)

I love the people who complain when a character has no flaws, but then when a show comes along where the main character is clearly flawed, and those flaws are directly and deliberately written into the story as characterization (as opposed to simply writing mishaps on the author's part), they do nothing but attack that character for having those flaws.

I love MAL logic.

And are the people who complain when a character has no flaws the same people who complain about the characters' flaws?

Don't be pedantic. The term "Mary Sue" comes from a character in a Star Trek parody fanfic who was female, and the term "Gary Stu" was derived from "Mary Sue" so that there would be a term for male characters fitting the description. A Mary Sue is a Mary Sue regardless of gender.

True dat. I see this almost everywhere. Someone complains about one thing, yet when a show does the opposite they complain again. There's just no pleasing some people :/
