The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat
Its all about mental disabilities/complications as seen and explained patient by patient through the eyes and words of the neurologist, Dr. Oliver Sacks. Its a pretty good read and manytimes a mindbender when you try to place yourself in the mindset of the patient.
What made it so that a person lost sense of her legs so that unless they are watching them they cannot stand?
Due to severe short term memory loss, a man is stuck forever knowing that its 1945 dispite the true date being many decades forward.
A doctor, who after examining a glove while describing all the attributes of it, specifically ones that a glove would have, was only able to recognise it as a glove after accidentally slipping in on his hand whereas exclaimed "My God, it's a glove!".
What if you lost all sense of 'Left' so as you would only see half the food on your plate or apply makeup on only half your face and not notice?

You realise what a powerful and strange thing the mind can be. How badly things can go wrong, and how you might have no perception that anything is wrong, frankly, because the mind itself has no realisation of it, and the possibility that the sense of a problem cannot be established because the mind won't or can't.
Kind scary

My favourite book. Ever. I need it turned into anime.

Finished, finally, the stupid fourth book of Twilight trilogy. What a waste of trees. I was glad it ended. So... back to the Purgatory!! =D Dante was cool, I wonder where he would place me if I had met him. xD

I've always wanted to read this, one of my psychology lecturers mentioned it ages ago, but haven't gotten around to looking for it :P

I'm currently reading 'Legacy of Ashes: A History of the CIA'...pretty much about how great of a reputation they had but how terrible their record actually was. How they pretty much screwed America, made the rest of the world hate them, and generally shat all over everyone. They tried to change the world, not know the world, how can you change something you know little about?

Also reading Bone Song(interesting alternate reality crime thriller thing) and about to start Neuromancer, which apparently started that whole internet cyberbrain future crazy junk...looking forward to it

Fight Club was one of those rare cases where I thought the movie improved on the book. Still pretty good, although I preferred Survivor and Invisible Monsters. Haven't read Choke or Diary, but Lullaby was decent, although my least favorite thus far.

reading Tennyson by Lesley M. M. Blume.

over the weekend during my trip to, during and coming back from Indiana I read the following books:

The Conviction of Richard Nixon by James Reston Jr. (basis for the Frost/Nixon film)
Incognegro by Mat Johnson and Warren Pleece
Man In The Dark by Paul Aster
The Laramie Project by Moises Kaufman and the Tectonic Theater Project

I would highly recommend all of these books, especially the Nixon book and Incognegro, which is a trade hardback comic.

A little pause before starting another Glen Cook series, so I'm into this one :

I've read about 200 pages so far, and it seems good enough for a change. Interesting , but not as good as RR Martin's or Erikson's. Though it's only the first book, so I expect to improve with the following volumes.

He does, but it makes it rather believeable and engrossing. He's not a good writer, but he's an enjoyable one - one of those, "I can't stop reading this damn thing despite it clocking in closer to a thousand pages".

I haven't yet read George Orwell's "1984", I've been told it is a good book from my lecturer little over a year ago.

I've recently picked up "The Tales Of Beedle The Bard" by J.K.Rowling.

Hmm those books sound very familiar, one about grammar and punctuation, the other about philosophy? Do you do Philosophy and/or Ethics by any chance?

That book seems to traumatize all the American students. Therefore I have to read it. When I finish the Divine Comedy, of course, wandering through Purgatory right now (I don't understand the objective of the Purgatory if you already have the Hell for people that commited exactly the same crimes. What makes you go to Purgatory and not to Hell? I'm sure Dante explained it, but it was in such a way I could not understand)

Basically, the way I understood the concept of Purgatory is that it is the waiting room (which obviously Dante had never experienced or he would have included it as a punishment) for both Heaven and Hell and the souls that have been assigned there are the ones that Judgment has not been decided upon. Such as the souls of people who have done great and wonderful deeds that have also committed terrible sins and their souls are in a state of balance between the Spheres. Or at least that's the way I read it.

Everybody here is reading such heady material, I'm almost ashamed that I'm re-reading Ian Douglas' Heritage trilogy starting with "Semper Mars". But not very.
