I see this a lot in anime, sliding doors with a very small section of decking, sort of just like a step that leads into the garden.

Another thing i love is the sliding doors onto a liottle part of decking but then no garden and just a large pond, i think that is very cool :)

I don't know why but i love that lol :P a bit random i know, but i am a tad bored :)

^ that is just epic, perfection :)

That is majorly awesome also. i love the style of the sliding doors and such, man i gotta move to a warm country and get a house like this at some point xD

Deicded to turn the thread into a "your perfect house" type thing :)

Is it just me or do those sliding doors look like they would let a lot of outside heat in? or is that the whole point? so your house doesn't get too stuffy? They also look very easy to break into o.o

Nowadays most of Japan is becoming westernized in the housing style to save space and for economical reasons (insulation, security, stronger building structure, etc), so you'll be harder and harder pressed to find an old style Japanese home like that outside of very rural areas. They are nice though, and tatami feels great on your feet, but not even most of Japan lives in these types of houses anymore. They just are a really poor design aside looking nice, they kinda became entirely outdated like a hundred years ago though.

i'd be happy if my home had a (personal) garage - one big enough to work on my car and bike

lived in nyc all my life - always lived in apartments, so no personal garages. i want a garage!!!

Build your own house, problem solved... I’d have the rice paper sliding doors in my house if they’d keep the heat in and the noise out... I’m still yet to find some where I can buy tatami flooring but when I do it’s going in my bedroom and maybe the lounge room...

Yeah i knew they were more westernised now somewhat. never walked on tatami before, is it very spongy like? :P

i could get one built personally for me ;) probably cost a lot but you know :P would be worth every penny :P it would probably have to be in the countryside because of security though, OR I COULD SET TRAPS xD

The japanese country side is rather nice, i like to imagine going out through my sliding doors and sitting on my decking will looking onto my perfectly green grass and then at my VERY large pond with a rock waterfall in it, i think i like to imagine ideals to much ahah xD

I do really like those traditional japanese homes, but I wouldn't want one for myself for as a permanent residence. A small, comfier home like Jintan's in AnoHana, or Daikichi's in Usagi Drop, or even the hose in Ano Natsu would be nice though.. I like the look of them for some reason. I'd wish that the sliding doors had locks or something though.

Yeah that's the only problem lol, could have a regular brick house but have the sliding doors on the interior but have the outside doors (that lead outside) as glass doors, so you get style and security :P

Man those houses would be like the perfect retirement place :P

It seems very unsafe. And the insulation looks awful. Most of which is mentioned by Tallon already, lol.

In doors it might give a different sense of aesthetics which might be refreshing. But other than that, it seems like you're under the impression of "what is exotic is attractive". It doesn't look very good if you had to live in it though.

Thats why the point is to have it in a hot country :) definitely agree with the unsafe aspect though. as i said above, i would like to have a house made of bricks in which only the interior looks like this and the outside doors being glass :)

I don't see why it wouldn't look good if you had to live in it, i have liked this style of house for a long time.

The pond and that is just icing on the cake :P having a room with a glass door that goes outside and a pond being right there would be awesome, that isn't essential though of course, that is just a bonus xD

I wouldn't mind having a summer house like that XD
I'm sure if you live in it during the summer and you live near the equator you probably don't have to worry about not having enough heat XD.
Looks really cute and serene

One of my friends who’s a carpenter has put fake grass down in his house instead of carpet... it’s just in the bed rooms and lounge room... it’s strange but nice...

I don't get what's so appealing about these kind of houses. I mean, I do.. But it'd be so easy to break into. Sliding doors? Paper thin covers? Given there's a front door and all, but after that everything else would be easy as shit.

best house

living in a bouncy house would be cool too if it was guaranteed to never pop or leak. having a ball pit in my house would be awesome too but they are a bitch to clean and if you fart in them the smell gets trapped in there FOR EVER

Ideal home, would just be 10km radius of open greenland, woodland, and a 1 km radius lake. Like Nagi's estate. XD.

The houses you posted are pretty neat, even though I agree with others saying it doesn't look very safe etc. But if you lived in some friendly village, it would be nice (or you could hire some bodyguards to guard your house lol).
My dreamhouse though would some with the feel of the Victorian era. I simply love them.

Yeah man, sliding doors are awesome. Unless someone decides to rob your house.. he'd find it pretty easy if the sliding door is made of glass.

Classic Cape Cod. Not like the crap they show on HGTV and call a Cape Cod. But it would be nice to have a little more land than what they actually do towards the tip of the cape.

That in-floor bathtub looks amazing, but I'd rather it be a hot-tub. I'm also a huge fan of charcoal or any other grayish hues on walls, floors, and just about everywhere. Not sure what my ideal house would look like, but there would be lots of grey, it would be designed to make the best use of natural lighting, and it would be relatively small.

I'm not exactly sitting here cursing my heritage/culture and wishing i was japanese xD there is a difference between liking something that is japanese and being a weeaboo.

Too bad OP, paper sliding doors makes a bad companion with storms. That's why most Japanese houses now use a large glass sliding doors. I prefer a clear glass like this one, instead.

I certainly think it's relaxing, but I probably wouldn't like to spend my life in a house like that. Maybe just a room designed like that at most.

A really modern house with just one room traditional Japanese style. Oh and dark wood all over the place. In the middle of a forest, near a river.

I just get the feeling that if you found out this type of house was Cambodian in origin you wouldn't be a fan anymore.

I could not give a single fuck where the house originates from xD i like the look, i don't like it because it's japanese xD i'm not such an illogical thinker :P

rural japanese houses suck
the decorations are stylish (maybe) but you wouldn't want to live in a full one
not like you can build one in the city tho so most people are covered

I've always thought those were cool, but for obvious reasons I wouldn't want one. Though I wouldn't mind one room to be like that, if you were able to build your own house that could be pretty cool.

That's every young daughter's dream home.

Despite how beautiful they are, I couldn't live in a traditional Japanese house without a very large strong fence around it or unless I live in a rural area, It's not secure.

I wouldn't mind designing a large prefab home and then hiring people to build it, then have all the latest technology in it.
