So I wanted to ask: Did you ever have this feeling on some characters? If yes, mark those characters. | These aren't characters who went from hate to love and vice versa for me. They are just characters that I liked or disliked significantly more by the end than I did at the beginning. Most Improved Characters Kurono Kei (Gantz) Guts (Berserk) Claire Stanfield (Baccano!) Most Declined Character Itachi Uchiha (Naruto) BK-201 (Darker Than Black) (Potential Berserk Spoiler) For me, I think characters go into decline when at least some of their mystic is taken away and they are revealed to be different than I had imagined. I feel there should be more. I must be forgetting quite a few. |

| I couldn't stand Ed's first appearance in Cowboy Bebop, but liked her more and more in successive episodes (especially in Mushroom Samba, and when her backstory is covered). I'd say the same for pretty much the entire cast of Wolf's Rain -- most of the characters appear one-dimensional until the story goes deeper and deeper. On the flipside... | I recently watched the first 119 episodes of naruto. From what I can see Improved-Naruto himself was really annoying at the beginning but his character growth is amazing. Declined-sasuke really went downhill from a strong confident character with a cool attitude to a jealouse weak minded fool. That's all I can think of right now. |

| Most improved: Asemu Asuno from Gundam AGE- Loved him in the second generation. Then he became an epic badass in the last generation. Loved his hairstyle too. xD Jack from Pandora Hearts- Chrome Dokuro from KHR Went Downhill: Flay Allster from Gundam SEED- To be honest I didn't mind her at first then after her father died she became totally unlikable and a huge ass bitch. She became worse as the series went on Shirley Fenette from Code Geass- She was alright and she could have grown on me since she has that bubbly happy personality that I like from both genders, but same as with Flay after her father died she became unlikable she was totally fine before all the overdramatic bullshit. It made the whole Lelouch/Shirley relationship forced and unrealistic to me. Then the rest of the series instead of being all bubbly like in the beginning she just pondered her feeling and it got annoying as fuck to the point that I just wanted her out of the story. Then R2 they degraded her character even more to where she was just there for fanservice and more overdramatic hilarious bullshit after episode 12. Lelouch Lamperouge from Code Geass- Was an amazing character in R1, but in R2 he became really unlikable and a douche to like every character. |

Shirley was there for fanservice before R2 and before her father died. And her getting dark and wanting revenge for her father provided incite to the character and some growth, the same kind of incite and growth most main characters get when someone close to them dies. All R2 did was reset her to how she was in the beginning of the first season. |

| Youko Nakajima ( Juuni Kokuki ) Except I don't hate her in the beginning, she's brilliant done as a character and is an epitome of the word 'character development'. It also helps that the series wasn't plagued by 'The heavenly chosen one' trope, people had to prove that they were worthy. |

| Improved Homura Akemi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)--Everything about episode 8 and after. She's not my favorite character but she did win me over in the end. Miu Asakura (Bungaku Shoujo)--From Memoire to the movie she went down then at the end of the film she shot up. That poor dumb idiot. ;_; Marika Katou (Mouretsu Pirates)--Won me over halfway through. Chiaki is still my favorite but it's hard not to like Marika's all-encompassing strength. Everyone in Yuru Yuri not named Kyoko--So like, we have this second season and they remembered other characters exist. Nice. Downhill Sasuke Uchiha (Naruto)--I can't tell whether he's a sympathetic antagonist or an outright villain. Identity crisis much? |

| Accelerator- Accelerator seemed like a villain of the week type of thing. Causes a big ruckus, main has to slap him down, and he has so little actual development, he seems like he'll never appear again. Loved Acc in the2nd half of season 1, and he was my favorite part of Season II. His arc in those last 4 episodes...damn! Heinrich Lunge- He seemed like a robot at first. With that weird face and deep emotionless voice, but he turned out to be a really deep character later on in the series. There are some others, but those are the top of my head. |

| Anyway, while I can't say I particularly hated him, I sincerely didn't expect Yang Wenli from Legend of the Galactic Heroes to grow on me the way he did. I can not be the only one to have set Reinhard as the "go to" character of the series (and in all outward respects--that is, before anyone watches the show--he seems that way). |

I mean, you are right.. and that does have an impact on the opinions...but that does not make them wrong that they went downhill.. It just explains WHY they went down hill. It was relevant because it is a question what was being pointed out as being a down turn for the character were traits that are integral to that archetype and the role the character plays in the story. Being uncertain about whose side Sasuke is about as normal as knowing that Superman will save everyone. |

| Improved: All the Homunculi from FMAB. Absolutely hated every one of them when they first appeared, ended up being one of my favorite group of characters ever. Downhill: Spike from cowboy bebop. Really loved his character up until the last couple of episodes cause I found him selfish and extremely irrational |

| Most improved: Yona (Yona of the Dawn). It's nothing short of amazing to go back and rewatch/read the 1st episode/chapter. Most worsened: Luffy (One Piece). You'd think THAT event would've changed him especially after the skip but he's the goddamn same idiot and, to me at least, that's worse than changing at all. Franky (One Piece). This guy was my favorite Straw Hat and then he goes full not-cool-in-any-way robot after the skip. |
