Spoilerz n' Stuff below the fold:
The initial captions says "Even the exam studies are coming to a head"
The girls are studying for their entrance exams at Rin's house.
"I'm telling you," Mimi implores Kuro, "you solve question 5 the same way you solve question 2! Even if you remember the tricks, they won't work for you if you don't understand them."
"Whatever," Kuro replies, "I'll just memorize both problems for the test."
"The exam tests your understanding, not your memorization!" Mimi says.
"Please, even you memorized the chart for your eye exam!" Kuro retorts back.
"Isn't it amazing that I can pass with just an all-nighter! Those who study every day sure look stupid!"
"If I fight her, I'll get blamed for being bigger than her," Mimi fumes. "But because I hold back against this stupid cat..."
"Pigeons live for 30 years," Mimi says suddenly.
Mimi continues talking to a confused Kuro: "A teacher's food expense is deducted from his salary... a thing called a 'mook' is a Japanese English word that's a cross between 'magazine' and 'book'... the name 'Mimi' is taken from the Japanese adjective 'bibishii' which means 'beautiful and gorgeous'...
"What?" says an exasperated Kuro.
"I'm filling your head with useless information!" cries Mimi.
"Nooo!" cries Kuro XD
"Rabbits mate all year!" Mimi continues relentlessly. "That's why the Playboy logo is a bunny!"
"Rin-chan! Help!"
"Boy, these light novels are dirty," says Rin as she flips through a book titled "Rambunctious Princess."
"Aren't you studying?!" the other two girls yell.
"Reiji is the one who wants me to go to private school. I don't care either way," says Rin.
"Why do you think I'm taking these exams in the first place!" Kuro yells. "Are you that cruel?"
That gave Mimi all the opening she needed. "Rin-chan told me she'd also go to public school with me."
She keeps looking on to a clearly pissed off Kuro as she hugs Rin from behind, "Whether we pass or fail, Rin and I will always be together, right?"
Kuro screams then runs after Mimi. "You thieving rabbit! Even if you're my friend, you'll pay!"
"Oh-ho-ho-ho! Then pass the test if it bothers you that much!" Mimi cackles back. "'The 'Andes' in 'Andes Melons' is actually short for 'all right,' it has nothing to do with the Andes Mountains!"
"Ahhhh! I can't hear you! Ahhhh!"
"Lunchtime!" says Reiji as he comes in with a tray of food.
Of course, Mimi gets googly-eyed, "Ahh, thank youuu!"
"I hope you girls like cream stew," says Reiji as he sets the tray down on the heated table.
"Oooh, it looks sooo delicious!" exclaims Mimi
"Keep that up, and other girls will hate you," warns Kuro. "And be careful this time, Usa-bitch, since I know you like getting covered in milky liquids."
"Shut up, you talking forehead!" yells Mimi as she turns to Reiji. "Ohh, let me help youuu...." That's when she noticed something.
"He has a ring on his finger?!" Mimi thinks to herself. "So that means, while I was busy being a grade schooler, another woman stole him from me?!!" Mimi looks on dazed as Kuro happily asks for seconds. Rin looks questioningly from Mimi to Reiji to his ring.
We transition to Futatsubashi Elementary School where Houin walks despondently down the hall while Aoki flips open his date book. "The graduation ceremony is on March 13." Aoki tells himself. "I'll have my going away ceremony on the 31st, and the my welcoming ceremony the next day. So in the span of two weeks, I have to look for my things, pack up my stuff, complete the paperwork, move out, move in, and do my meet and greets? Boy, I gotta get started now."
He turns the corner and bumps into Houin. "Oh, hi ther..."
Houin pulls up her skirt and covers up her face: "I-I'm not here!" Aoki can only wonder what exactly she's trying to hide.
"I heard the tentative announcements," said Houin. "So you've put in for a transfer? Was it because of me? Is it because of what I did to you at the camping trip?"
"No, you're wrong!" Aoki tells her. "I just want to experience a bunch of different schools. We already set things straight with the PTA, although we did make Shirai-sensei mad..."
Aoki lowers his head. "I really thank you for keeping my secret." Houin imagines Aoki with Reiji, his gay lover, "Like I can say that!" thinks Houin.
"How am I supposed to face him now?" thinks Houin. "It's not that I think there's anything wrong with his sexual preference. God, I'm still doing that online sex counseling, and there's bound to be a kid who has his problems (three guesses who Σ:3 )... no, I have to read up on this type of issue!"
Aoki smiles at her. "Houin-sensei" he begins, "even though you're my senpai, throughout the four years I've been here I've considered you as a buddy who happened to teach at the same school. Thanks for everything." Things will get busy in March, so he better get this out of the way now.
Houin blushes, but she hides her embarrassment by hitting him half in jest "Why are you being so formal! You dummy!" Houin cries into his back "Oh god! I love you so much!" she thinks.
"So which one are you, Aoki-kun?" asks Houin. "A Tachi Hiroshi or a Neko Hiroshi (or 'pitcher or catcher')."
"Excuse me?!"
We transition back to Rin's house where she stands surprised in front of her mother's shrine looking at an extra ring box with one ring missing.
We then go to a certain middle school where the girls are all taking their entrance exams. "I wanna die!" laments Mimi.
"Hey!" yells Kuro, "What the hell! You're not going to pass with flying colors?"
"Who cares anymore?" cries Mimi. "A woman can't find happiness in just book learning!"
"What are you, a middle-aged woman who failed at work?" Kuro retorts. "You'll have nothing left if you throw away your status as an honor student!"
"What do you mean 'nothing'?!" Mimi shouts back. "I still have my boobs you know!"
"You started this conversation in the first place!"
"Listen, Mimi," says Rin as she whispered something to Mimi which shocked her.
Mimi becomes so happy she gets her own flowery background. "Oh, so it's just Aki-san? Oh my god, so that's what it was!"
Kuro looks blankly at her, "What's your deal now?"
"Reiji is so wonderful and dedicated," thinks Mimi. "I'm sure he'll never cheat on me."
"All right!" She shouts. "Time to pass this test!" Rin looks off into space with the bangs ominously covering her eyes.
We're back at Futatsubashi where the few kids not taking the entrance exams are busy doing a random printout. Aoki snaps after taking a look at the dismal scene after a couple kids announced they are done with their assignment.
"Goddammit! Those private schools shouldn't be doing their tests and announcing the results on weekdays! If this were a flu epidemic, they'd cancel class right now! We're trying to get through our 3rd trimester here! Those middle schools took my kids!" One kid notes how he's losing his mind.
He tosses a bunch of papers in the air. "Screw classwork! We're going to the gym for some dodgeball!" He doesn't notice Shirai sneaking up behind him XD
The girls are at the test results, and after seeing how they did, all three hug each other. Aoki receives the good news from Rin, just before getting beaned by a dodgeball by Shirai XD. Reiji sees the results online at work and smiles. "Kokonoe, let's go!" yells a coworker.
"Right," says Reiji as he leaves his desk. The window behind the test results reads "How to Sign Up for Death Insurance." The ending caption reads, "The three girls celebrate their passing! But what is Reiji hiding in his heart?"
==================================
Well, guess we didn't get our pedophile principal that we were waiting for, but now we know that the three girls will be going to the same school together. I suppose Watashiya-sensei didn't want to break the girls up. All that's left is to see if Aoki just happens to be transferred to the same school. Yeah, it's a cheap plot device, but then again, how else would we get our eventual RinxAoki/KuroxAoki love triangle? It was funny seeing Mimi turn into a total burikko around Reiji, and once again she demonstrates that she knows her boobs are an asset. I wonder where my shy little Mimi-chan went to, because now I think we've created a monster XD. Boing-sensei not knowing what to do because she thinks Aoki is gay made me laugh too, and that question at the end was the icing on the cake XD. Finally, it looks like Rin knows that something is seriously wrong with Reiji, who just "married" Aki-san and is appears to be taking out a huge life insurance policy so that Rin will be taken care of when he departs this world for Aki-san. I predict another confrontation in between them in the future.
With the start of this new volume, who knows where the story will lead. I'd like to give this a five, but to be honest, it was a tad boring (plus it's woefully short). It kind of reminds me of the beginning of volume 11. So four stars.
It was an okay chapter, Not as great as the last few though in my opinion. Also it kind of feels weird for me to be saying this, but I think the series is drawing close to the end now.
Shit. Mimi needs to jump him ASAP to get that stupid idea out of his head.
Also, this was a pretty mimi-centered chapter, and it was nice. The studying scene in the beginning was lolworthy :D
Only gripe: the amount of Rin supplied does not meet my required needs
but I will survive. At least until next month
I want Rambo in a mecha-suit with a laser-chainsaw gun that fires nuclear warheads, fighting the love-child of Predator, Alien, a group of Bangladeshi terrorists, and Satan. (Actually that would be a pretty sick show) - StopDropAndBowl
am i the only person who found this chapter cute? xD I love Aoki and "middle school is stealing my kids!"
anyhow reiji is making me sad.. even though i don't like him, i sure don't like what he's deciding..
Certainly the pace has dropped with the release of the new volume. I also prefer when a chapter has 30 pages plus...not a mere 16. I'm waiting a month for these chapters like the rest of you so would be nice to have stuff of appropriate length to tide me over til the next one.
Seems Reiji and Mimi took centre stage on this one. I don't mind but I'd like to see more Rin obviously...she's what I read it for, her and Aoki anyway.
-Quasar said: "Rabbits are in heat all year, that's why the playboy mark is a bunny"
Oh wow, first time I heard of that.
You just don't have as much interest in those things as 12 years old girls with hyperactive horones XD
I hope and think that Rin or Mimi or Aoki (or all of them together) will stop Reiji from doing anything stupid but I just can't help but wonder what Boin would think about the whole thing if Reiji suddenly commited suicide after Aoki transfering to a far-away job... Then again, there still is a good chance that she will walk on those two when Aoki will be busy stopping Kokonoe-san from it and misunderstand something again ;P

agreed, this chapter was disappointing. didnt feel like much happened. if reiji is planning to kill himself i dont see why, seems forced
short chapter, is short, and makes me scream "GIMME MORE KNJ!!"
when the mother of Rin died, she leaves a insurance, that Reiji, never touch, but now he is gonna use it, to pay the studies of Rin and he can start to think in make his dreams true.

--so much more like a happy ending.
The question I got is... where is the school at that Aoki is heading to? Could he be heading closer to home?
With the way this chapter went, things could go one of two ways.
1) Reiji goes through with his suicide while alone somewhere and either Rin, Mimi, Aoki, or any combination of them discover is dead body. Shocks are felt throughout everyone. Rin moves in with Aoki still sad about Reiji. Mimi is still really broken. In other words, Clannad After Story #2 or something similar to that.
2) Mimi is able to stop Reiji from killing himself which eventually leads up to the finale of the series and "hopefully" the happy end.
#1 would be more interesting to see happen as well as heartbreaking and rage inducing though I wouldn't mind #2 either.
Rieji isn't dieing any time soon so i'm thinking this is gonna be the set up for mimi to get his attention. At one time i thought it would be cool with me if mimi didn't get reiji but know i changed my mind it deffinatly has to be a double wedding :)
