Movie isnt perfect though, I like the bloat, but some of it made the movie lose focus or just plain silly.

The seeing-shit-through-cell-phones was a bit too out there, felt too Mission Impossible-ish. Also, the copycat batmans could have been an interesting plotline but was dropped quickly. Harvey Dent's transformation from good guy to bad was a bit too quick too, needed more time to develop that change in the character.

All of the acting was good though, I cant take anyone here seriously if they think anyone was bad, they werent! Bale's 'batman' voice is still stupid-sounding, but it's a comic book movie so whatever. Director's decision anyway, so dont blame him.

Katie Holmes would have been a bad choice because if you have to deal with her then that means you must also deal with Tom Cruise. As most people know Tom is a raging, weird religion, lunatic who must have things his way. That and he knows crazy voodoo alien magic and he is friends with Oprah.

TDK rocked!! Definitely the movie for 2008. It's a shame Ledger died i would have really liked the Joker to appear in the third film, he left some huge shoes to fill.

My Favorite part :'D

I think my favourite part is when the Joker, dressed as a nurse, says "I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do if I caught it!". The way he acts and his voice gets excited, is perfect.

(although for some reason I thought he said 'tars', but IMDB says cars)

My thoughts exactly. but I loved this movie. Just like I loved Batman Begins. I really hope they keep Bale on. There is nothing more distracting than actor substitutions.

Haven't seen it yet. I want to, but you see... I'm a lazy bastard. I keep going "Hey, I'm going to go see Batman tonight!" but I end up too lazy by the time I'm supposed to go.

If only I had a girl to go with, then lazyness wouldn't be an issue =D

THE JOKER IS MY IDOL.
HE'S SO AMAZING.
Anyway, this movie deserves to be seen a second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and even a seventh time in one day without getting up from your chair to even just merely go to the bathroom.
It's so good.
And I'm not even a Batman fan.
Though I am a Joker fan. =]

It was pretty good. Can't say I thought it was as amazing as everyone is saying though. Yeah, the action was sweet, but I liked the deeper aspects of it. Y'know, the ones that delve in the psyche of humans, and whether we're, at heart, "good" or "evil".
On a lighter aspect, I do not like Batman. I do not like his actor, and I hate his deep "Batman" voice. It sounds like he's got a real bad cold.
The Joker was amazing though. Heath Ledger. T_T

For the first part of the movie I was expecting Batman to clear his throat and talk normally.... but you kinda get used to it eventually lol.
It's funny how he even talks to people who know his identity in the same way.

So, I saw the movie the day it came out. Not sure why I haven't commented on this yet, but... this was easily my favorite film of the year. Of course, this is largely due to the fact I'm a bit of a Batman fan and love Heath Ledger >.>

Without saying too much, like normal, Bale does a fantastic job however, Ledger's performance pulled it all together and stole the show, his part was also well augmented by Aaron Eckhart in the role of Harvey Dent.

Also, somewhat keeping in context with this thread, for what it's worth rumors have also been popping around the net recently for the next Batman film if you haven't heard. A few names have been tossed out in this, Philip Seymour Hoffman is a potential candidate for The Penguin, whereas Johnny Depp has apparently been approached for the role of The Riddler. Past this, Angelina Jolie has also been reported to have been contacted for the role of Catwoman.

We'll see how that all turns out, eh? And if you only watched the movie for Heath Ledger, at the very least you have one more gift from him (what's left of his part that is) in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (Wiki).

IMBD Link

We'll see how that one turns out. It intrigues me at least, I mean come on it has Verne Troyer in it!

Heath Ledger- awesome. The film was great, but Heath had that extra something. RIP Heath. I found the low Batman voice a little strange at 1st, but I got used to it. I liked the deeper elements like Loserkid mentioned in an above post. When the Joker was walking and talking about being an agent of chaos, he reminded me very much of my God Loki, a reminder which made the Joker shine even more to me. Remember Loki is a trickster God, and the Joker is a trickster. Batman with the white eyes was one of my favourite moments of the film.

Just saw it a couple hours ago. I'm not a big batman fan, but the movie was pretty great. That scene where Batman flipped the truck with his motorcycle and the wire was seriously epic. Ending was awesome too and I can't wait for the sequel. It kind of pissed me off how they replaced Rachel's actor so obviously. Personally, I think Katie Holmes is more suited for the part but that might just be a bias opinion considering Katie Holmes was in the first Batman movie I ever saw thus the first Rachel I ever saw.
Heath Ledger was ridiculous!! God rest his soul. Completely in agreement with naikou and release on both their comments about Ledger.

I finally saw this movie today. I liked it, though it was a little long. Joker was probably the best villain I've seen in a movie in a while. He kind of showed up Batman, lol. Although Bale was good too. I'll put down his weird voice to hiding his identity.

I don't understand the hate on Batman's voice so much. I mean, at least, he's trying to mask his identity unlike other heroes who use their normal, very noticeable voices (Spider-Man comes to mind). At least Batman's voice is somewhat intimidating and sounds nothing like Bruce Wayne.

Yeah I agree, I thought that his attempt to mask his voice was very realistic. The voice doesn't need to sound good as long as his identity is not exposed.

Many say Heath Ledger's the real star of this one - and I would agree - but perhaps he was too brilliant and took his role too seriously. I heard he was still behaving like the Joker even though the film wasn't rolling anymore - not sure if it's true.

Linkage to rumours from websites with cited sources, otherwise they're just fanboy rumours with no substance. I cant personally take any of the suggestions seriously, does Nolan look like he'd cast Jolie in a Batman movie, or implement Penguin in his 'realistic' depiction of the Batman universe?

See, that's the thing. If I'm not mistaken, the suits want them to cast Hoffman as the Penguin.

As for Jolie, I don't recall where I read it. I'll try to dig up a valid link. Apparently she's only after the role of Catwoman though. Whether that be alongside Batman or in a spinoff from Halle Berry's role.

Batman sequel to The Dark Knight: Johnny Depp to play The Riddler? (Also includes Hoffman)

Edit: Jolie and Catwoman

As far as I gather from reading a little more, this is all based around suits as Nolan has apparently not signed on for the third movie. A sequel will undeniably happen, but when that is who knows. For all we know, it may not be in the Nolanverse. And that... would basically suck.

I like the Riddler, but I'm not sure about Depp. The Penguin is a mobster, but I don't see him escaping from Batman on a flying umbrella, also I can't even see Catwoman in Nolan's Batman to begin with.

After reading the articles linked, I couldn't help but notice that the sources were all really hokey. "Friends in the industry," "(unnamed) sources say," "we heard that...," etc etc.

I'm not saying that they are full of it. It just really looks that way. But hey, I could be wrong.

...they could also be doing that newspaper thing where they report on something just because another paper reported on it. It's something that sort of runs rampant in journalism. So in this case, one paper makes up a rumor/"reports" on a supposed source, and the others follow. It's happened before.

Its waaaay too early for casting, they havent even written anything yet. They (the Nolan brothers and Goyer) havent even come up with a synopsis let alone a script! All these rumours are just wishes at this point.

What we're better off rumouring about is plotlines and villains, but there's another thread for that anyway.

All we know for sure is this:

"If Robin crops up in one of the new Batman films, I'll be chaining myself up somewhere and refusing to go to work." - Christian Bale

In the end a rumor is just that, a rumor. As long as there is no way to prove it one way or the other, validity of a rumor, fan or otherwise is pretty much what you make of it. From the sound of it it's primarily the producers discussing these options, but it's all very thin.

I'll repeat myself; Nolan has not signed on for the third movie. Another Batman film will undeniably happen, but when that is, who is in it, or what it's about, who knows?

At the very least, it's enjoyable to think about it, 'Who would you cast in what role?', and the such. Fan speculation has never bothered me much, which is why I posted such things. I mean hell, it kills time, no?

I can't say I'm inclined to disagree, but would you really want it longer? Unless you wanna throw in an intermission or split it into two films, it'd almost be unbearably long to add and not remove. Besides, then you wouldn't be able to taunt Loli either. At least not for that.

Personally, I feel it was about 15-20 minutes too long. Some scenes were too drawn out, where others could have been elaborated upon. It may have helped the flow and continuity a bit, without making it feel too long. I actually would have preferred if Two-Faces transformation was more canonical as well, though weaving in The Joker to that storyline wasn't a terribly bad idea in itself.

No, you dont need to make the movie longer to make a smooth transition from Dent to Two Face, you just trim the fat off the existing movie. Batman beating up SWAT guys for 15 minutes got boring fast, some other scenes could also have been shortened or removed entirely, all to make Dent lose his mind more believably.

Well as believable as a Batman movie can get anyway...

Ah, I misinterpreted what you meant, my bad. Sounds like we're at least in somewhat of an agreeance though, that some of the fat could have been trimmed away in order to allow time to elaborate upon other scenes. I haven't seen it since opening weekend, so I'd have to go watch it again to actually comment on scenes that could have been removed entirely, however I'd agree, it was a bit of a stretch, but it's not like it was very plausible in the first place.

Edit: Blah, I'm done with this thread for now. I have a headache now, and it's almost baseball time.
