Hey, here in Southern California we were treated to an earthquake. It is reported to be 5.4 with an epicenter in Chino Hills.

So who felt it?

Just read up about this on BBC. The article says it's 5.8, which is pretty big.

This was in my local news, no less. From my understanding, this kind of things happens a lot in southern California, much like we have rain in Seattle. And considering there were no serious casualties reported, I find it ridiculous that this is considered national news.

I never heard of it?! o_o

and I live in NorCal. Shows to go how updated I am on news. 5.8? That's one of the big ones I believe, dang.

originally it was reported as a 5.8, but then was downgraded to 5.4.

Where I am it was really strong. I thought my grandma's house was going to break apart. It was really creepy. Then to find out it was just 5.4, I don't trust my grandma's house in an earthquake now.

when it hit, the house boomed, so i thought it was a sonic boom. but as it gained power, i realized it was an earthquake.

but it was significant enough earthquake to mess up the phone lines. my mom, brother and i still cant get in touch with some of our family because the phone lines seem to be out.

Maybe he'll announce a massive invasion so we can finally teach those earthquakes a lesson.

5% chance that this earthquake is just the harbinger of a larger earthquake.

*is hoping the 95% odds against that happening kick in*

If that's true, wow...But it could just be some attention seeker. There are actually people sad enough to do something like that.

See, if this was the UK, there would be a ridiculous amount of news coverage. We don't get many natural disasters at all you see...Unless you can count Gordon Browns leadership, POW!

It was a pretty epic earthquake. I woke up and was like, "Something is going to happen isn't it." I had just remembered a safety procedure in case of an earthquake, and then it happened. MADNESS

Actually there's more and more freaky shit happening in the UK. We've had quite a few earthquakes and tornados recently. (oO)

Actually, I do remember that tornado that destroyed someone's house...and then disappeared after 12 seconds...

Leave it to a British tornado to be so half-arsed!

"Yeah, I'm going to destroy half of London!"
*One house destroyed, one old lady pushed over*
"You know what? That'll do...I'm off down the pub."

I wouldn't mind, but we were treating it like one of the harbingers of the apocalypse!

P.S: Am I the only one who just loves the word 'harbinger'?

That's exactly what I'm talking about! It's getting to the point where we're considering asking France to get a load of fat people to jump on the coast in order to whip up a nice tsunami for us or something!

Was at the dentist a few minutes away from epicenter. Didn't really know it was an earthquake till people started freaking out. Nothing major happened though I could have been killed with a frame overhead.

It hit in Southern California.

I live about 5 miles from the epicenter. I was driving however, and didn't feel a thing, lol.

I was on Long Beach Blvd., where it meets the 710, waiting at the light, when my work truck started rocking. "I know this dance" I said aloud and just waited it out. didn't alarm me much, since I was in the valley for the 94 northridge (my apartment broke in half!).

Was kinda worried about the house (near Downtown LA), since I have a driveway retaining wall that's in shaky condition, but all was well when I got home

I'm on the top floor of a kinda oldish apartment building in West L.A. . It was a little freaky up here. Not nearly as bad as the Northridge quake. The initial jolt was pretty strong, but it didn't last that long and didn't get worse. By the time I got my shoes on and got to the stairwell, it was pretty much over.

Still, according to Caltech there's a 22% increased probability of a larger event following this one, so I'm going to remain a little cautious for another few weeks.
