DJMax/IIDX/Pop'n/Rhythm Heaven/Stepmania/DDR/PIU/Taiko/O2Jam/osu/DrumMania/whatever I haven't listed I'm a huge fan of the DJMax series, and I'm trying to get better with Technika. I got so happy when I full combo'd Son of Sun HD for the first time lol. I'm working my way up to get better but I'm still having some difficulties with Lvl 8 and above songs. Also, never getting an S on Lvl13+ songs on the portable games. Want to go back to IIDX again but I'm still saving for a good controller and for Trilogy. I've also been wanting to get better at Pump but holy shit am I terrible, it's embarrassing when people (especially the good players) watch me play ;_; Any tips? |

I'm a big fan of the Rock Band series. I play expert across all instruments(including vocals) and I'm a very good drummer. I have issues sometimes because my drum kit is a crappy RB1 stock that drops notes like it's nobodies' business, and my stock pedal is also an RB1 stock, which basically means I have to hit bass notes with my heel down the whole time and use only the front of my foot (which is fairly awkward, especially if you play real drums). I play some GH(expert as well), but I don't like it because the timing window is looser than a whale's vagina. |

I used to play DJ Max before I bricked my PSP a couple of years back. Was only on 6 buttons though, I remember that much. Used to be pretty good at DDR as well, prefer the actual Arcade platforms to the home stuff though. |

I play DBBDX and Taiko mostly since I can take them on my DS to go, but I also have all the Wii Taiko games. All of the games after the second DS Taiko have less than fantastic tracklists. |

@InTheBushes321 Haha, Rock Band is fun especially when playing with friends, crazy experiences from that. I steer far far away from vocals though, shit's embarrassing. Guitar/Bass and Drums is really fun, though I prefer DrumMania for the drums thing. @Riptos Ouch, I'd be heartbroken if my PSP would be bricked. I also mainly play 6B since 8B/6BFX is horrifying. @notsureifsrs Didn't really like the tracklist for the 3rd game too but im@s, Precure and Ghibli songs are welcome any time. Oh and MERUTOO |

Rhythm Tengoku Gold is one of my favorite (top three?) games for the DS. I also consider it a "pure" rhythm game because it challenges only your sense of rhythm and not your physical dexterity or reflexes. notsureifsrs said: I play DBBDX and Taiko mostly since I can take them on my DS to go, but I also have all the Wii Taiko games. I played a tonnnn of DDR and StepMania when I was like 12-15, and I still play osu quite frequently as I feel it's a very good practicing tool for mouse speed and precision (which is necessary in many of the other games I play like SC2) |

Just tried it out and I'm pretty confused with the whole Flairs and Specials thing. Fuck yeah, Symphonic Rain. Have you tried adding custom songs yet? It's pretty much the reason why SR is still installed in my computer. They've been selling that for cheap though, I might go get it and play again. Playing in arcades though... I'll do that when I get better I guess haha. I find it embarrassing to get a game over in public on slow songs. |

I like the feeling of my hands moving fast on rhythm games. It always feels like rhythm games tend to gravitate to that point. The feeling of pressing buttons and going along with a song is too much fun. I also grabbed Sequence from a sale on Steam a while ago, which is a fun game with some funny dialogue, although I have trouble giving it the attention it deserves because I play osu too much. VN+Rhythm? I'll have to look into this Symphonic Rain someday. |

Oh finally a rhythm game thread. So far I've only played DJMax/IIDX/Stepmania/DDR/PIU/DrumMania and I've sticked with Technika, PIU, and Drummania for quite some time. PIU is a good exercise lol my friend lost 20 lbs. within 2 months and she played everyday. DDR is good too but I prefer the songs/music in PIU more. I can follow the beat more. Drummania.. I can only play Advanced 30+ songs/music + Auto-Bass. But it's fun! However, Technika is my rhythm game lover <3 Had my card up to lvl. 21 only since Technika 3 came. What else.. Nevermind I've been talking a lot 8D |

I play DJMax and Rock Band on my PSP. If Hatsune Miku: Project Diva is considered a rhythm game, I have that too. There's O2Jam and Band Master for online gaming. Aaand I like playing Technika in the arcade. I've also tried out Guitar Hero in the PS3, DrumMania and this other arcade game where you use your hands. I forgot the name, sorry. (⌒_⌒;) Anyway, it's not a lot and I actually haven't been a master in any of these but I guess you can say I'm fond of rhythm games. (v^_^)v |

a rhythm game thread? on (my) MAL? Awesome. Lifestory incoming! take cover! Disregarding the fact that this is a very old thread, i'm gonna post some stuff because you don't see these threads very often. i've played bust a groove back as my first rhythm game quite a while ago. played it for hours straight. some time passed by and along came a friend who bought guitar hero on which we waisted a ton of time as well. Got an xbox later on with stepmania which i shamelessly enjoyed playing on the xbox controller more then the dancemat. After graduating and finding work i find myself looking for rhythm games on PC. There was Audiosurf first but that didn't really suit my taste... i came across FlashFlashRevolution, but it lacked a little "polish" imo. Afterwards, i found out (through the FFR forums) that there was a free PC version of Stepmania. dl'ed that stuff and a ton of map packs that were scattered around various forums. this game kept me going for another 4-5 months and i still play it every now and then. Some small amount of time later i discover Project Diva F for ps3 at my local game dealer and got sucked into the vocaloid world, even got a controller for it later on. (Never mashed buttons this hard before) After going to an anime/games convention where a Project Diva F booth was set up, i had a conversation with one the guys managing the booth and he recommended me Osu. Installed Osu after i got back, however the game didn't really appeal to me at all in the first place. Probably because i didn't have a computer mouse at that time.(Touchpad) I went clicking around and found Osumania which was more what i thought i was hoping for, and digged straight into that. Around one month later i unexpectedly find the twitch livestream of the Osu world cup. Amazed by the preformances and the extreme difficulty of the lvl's, i bought a mouse and started to learn... switched over to the tablet after a couple of weeks and now we're about 6 months further. To sum it up, currently am still playing: Osu (PC)(mainly), Stepmania (PC) and Project Diva F & F2 A game that i'm going to look into would be: Lovebeat (haven't played much at all, but i haven't found much user activity on the european server yet. While this game is supposedly very much based on the multiplayer gamestyles from what i've seen. Probably needs more time.) If there's anything else that comes around with the description "rhythm game" i'm sure to check it out. |

BUT that wont take away the fact that you'll still going to have to play alot in order to get better at the game. You can always try out one of the other game modes such as Catch The Beat, Osumania or Taiko. Maybe those might suit your fancy more then regular Osu, you'll never know until you try! I currently play all gametypes. Though i do seem to be having a hard time learning Taiko. |

I remember when I was maybe 11 or 12 years old going to my local arcade after they had installed the new DDR2 machine very clearly. At first I was intimadated; I was a young kid after all, and this was a big machine. I didn't play it that first time I saw it but I was fascinated to see others play it. Eventually I showed up at the arcade with a friend and they convinced me to play it with them. This is when I realized how infatuated with this game I really was. I began having my grandpa take me every weekend to that arcade, and I mean every weekend. Naturally I progressed quickly from beginner to light mode, and then suddenly I was impressing myself on standard mode. I remember there was an older guy I envied that played on heavy frequently, and he allowed me to play with him on some occasions as well even though I was much younger. Ultimately I had gone to that arcade so many times that I lost count of how many 20 dollar bills I had my grandpa put into the coin machine. This is when the greatest prize of all was given to me in that arcade. We had become friends with the owners of the arcade and they recognized how much I loved the game, and began letting me play for free! Of course I was able to end up progressing to heavy mode on a good chunk of songs, and at that point I was impressing others as well. It was short lived however as a few months later I showed up like any weekend to play and they were packing everything into boxes due to the decline of popularity in the arcade. I did purchase DDR for my console at home along with a metal pad but after playing on a real machine for so long it was never the same for me again. Eventually I progressed into Guitar Hero on Expert mode in the future but I won't go on any longer with that because I have no memorable story about it anyway. I've heard of osu! and might look into it in the future if I find the time and interest. |

It takes time to get good with both, however using a tablet is not required to reach top tier. There are top 25 players that use mouse. |
