I would have never thought Reiko would be the extra one. This was a hell of a anime and just a great story overall. Really looking forward to seeing the OVA which will explain things even more.

Umm.. I think there's one loophole in the ending. How did Mei remember witnessing the murder of Reiko, when the "curse" should have erased or at least muffled (in the case of Akazawa) any memories related to Reiko??

Because both were present at the killing only both remember her. I guess the rule of anyone who was there when the extra is killed remembers it. Anyone else not there would not.

The other explanation is she is the extra one now.

There's some forum I read, they said that it is Sakakibara who wrote that but he just couldn't remember it and Misaki lied to him by saying that she is the one who wrote the note "Who is Dead?" they based it on the novel so yeah it is not indicated on the manga.
It was shown in episode 6 I think or 7 when Kouichi ask Mei if she wrote that and said yes. But the truth is she didn't.

I remember it but in the anime we don't learn that she lied. In the manga we know it but when and why would Sakakibara have written it (if it was him). I hate the last two pages so much, it leaves you wondering what the hell it's supposed to mean.

Wait, were we not supposed to know that Reiko was Mikami-sensei? I don't remember if it was ever explicitly stated in previous episodes, but I had always assumed they were the same person, kinda like in Infinite Stratos.

Death had a field day in this episode, haven't seen so many people dying horribly since the Final Destination movies. I guess I should have guess her to be the one with all I don't remember answers she kept giving. but I didn't know that Mikami and Reiko were the same

Alright, I have to say I'm very satisfied with the ending of this series. For the most part haha. Sucks that my internet had to die all day yesterday! My internet was being so mean.. knowing I was counting the minutes waiting for the new episode. But, I finally watched it. Anywho.

I would just like to ask this though, maybe it's just me or I misread/don't remember correctly, but I looked back at the first episode in the beginning when the students, or whoever they were, were talking about the calamity or the old Misaki and how everything started. Misaki was a boy right? So.. why do they talk about a girl in the beginning of that episode? I'm pretty sure they were. but I could be mistaken and maybe it was explained or the kids had it wrong, i don't know. > w< ;

But, I ended up giving this series a 9/10. I was going to give it a 10/10 but for some reason, the last episode just didn't do it for me. Maybe it was the noisy environment I was in or my inner anger at not showing enough Kouchi x Mei (darn my girl emotions) but it just didn't do it. Although, I suppose it was very sweet to end it just with Kouchi saying "Can I call you sometime?" :3 D'awh! Maybe they will come out with a 2nd season (highly doubtful) or the OVA will have something. (But I think that's a prequel so..) Guess I'm outta luck. /:

But I would also like to say though; am I the only one who actually enjoyed the "blood bath"/murder frenzy episode that was 11 and party 12? I don't know, I guess I felt that everything was so kept it that it was good to just like have everything just over react and just blow out of proportion. I feel like in that situation that the students were in all year, I'm sure they ALL had pent up emotions and feelings. Like Kazumi (I think that's what his name) and his pent up anger for Umbrella Girl who died. (Forgot her name, gomen) So, I don't know. I guess I liked those episodes but I'm not much of a critic person, so whatever. We all have our own opinions! ^ .^

I was also confused, as other people, about the flashback with Reiko and her dying. The killer DID bare a strong resemblance to Kouchi and at first, I did think it was him! But I guess not. I just can't help but feel they made him bare a resemblance for a reason.. And it's also interesting to see why Mei did remember that too.. OH well, guess she's special. There's always an exception to the rule, eh?

I thought that Akazawa and Mei fight was AAWEEESOME. Totally happy that Kouchi stood up for Mei and tried to stop it although I'm sure he would've done that even if the victim wasn't Mei. I also liked the "theory" some poster had about Mei getting rid of competition, hurhurhur. >:3 Akazawa was nice though, but since I rooted for Mei all along, I really wasn't sad she died. Although Akazawa was pretty hot. Not gonna lie. Good lookin' character.

Well, my Mondays will be waaaaaaay boring now. Hope they come out with good stuff next season.

9/10 and 10/10 will probably switched around many times.

lol, i hate you for wanting to kill Misaki, but that's just me.

the entire series felt like death trolling this class for ammusment.

i wonder what those metal knife things were and where they got them. those seem nice.

also, why did Kouichi say goodbye to his mother when killing Reiko? aside from that he got played by Misaki: she gives him her phone number then throws it into the river the next day... the last scene where Kouichi asked her if it was really over, she just smiled...Kouichi played again, this time killed his aunt. jokes aside, i wonder what that really mean, also, i'm pretty sure doll eyes can see the color of death. as a matter of fact i don't thing they can see anything.

i'm pretty disappointed in the ending actually. i like the odd creepy horror feeling it had at the beginning but then it just shifted to brutal murder and accidents. i still like Mei. i would like to see her poke a cat one day

Its was like impossible to tell that Reiko was Mikami-sensei, yet it was just a simple glasses off and hair down, etc. Didn't believe it when I first found out and doubted it till this episode. Looks like the grandparents has been giving hints that it was Reiko all throughout the anime. It was nice to see every thing connected at the end, so that's what happened with everything occurring one and a half year ago.

It was just brutal how many people died in that hotel... wow. Nooooooooooooo Akazawa died too ffs, if only she didn't go after Mei and just listened to Kouichi. Ughh and she died without satisfaction with Kouichi not remembering. :( I feel sad even if she was acting like a crazy person most of this episode. Makes me wonder just what if Mei had just told everyone about her eye and who the dead person was. Maybe Akazawa wouldn't have died. :/

Such a quiet and nice ending with Kouichi and Mei.

When Kouchi mother's died, she say that will be his mother.
Although they have spent little time together, and do not see often, Kouchi and Reiko had great affection for each other. For Kouchi, Reiko was what he knew of a mother.

The anime cut this and his flashback of her funeral.

Her name is Keiko Numata and she and her husband are Ikuo Takabayashi's grandparents. He's the one who had died from a heart attack in one of the earlier episodes. It's likely that she went crazy because he's her grandson.

Clearly the director chose to make the murderer look like Sakakibara in order to create more discussion. It's clear in the manga (and novel too, I believe) that it wasn't Sakakibara. And, y'know, he had no reason for even being in Yomiyama at that time (until her funeral), yet alone murdering his aunt. Especially since he viewed her as a mother-figure, hence his "Goodbye, mom" just before he killed her to end that year's calamity.

I'm not sure how I feel about the finale. I was kind of spoiled to hell and back, so I already knew who the extra was.

To be honest, the series was beginning to lose its steam for me after the beach episode. I found myself chuckling pretty often throughout the episodes, and I was never outright frightened. I believe I was only spooked for a while after episode 4 or 5. It doesn't help that none of the deaths have been particularly scary, either; just. . . there. And sometimes outright silly, like that guy that escaped from under the chandelier to only get smooshed by a pillar. Really? Also, some of the students just chill as hell as the entire building is burning down. Gosh.

Way to cut out Kazami's role and then turn him into a lunatic, P.A. Works.

And shucks, the finale just depresses me still, because I know that the 'curse' hasn't been stopped.

Still, it was entertaining at least, and I was always looking forward to it.
8/10 overall.
For now. Since it failed as horror for me. . .

- My theory on Reiko's killer in 1996.
I AGREE! It could be possible. Hence why she was at first attracted to Kouichi's help and then love at first sight. With the trauma she went through at his death and his funeral, Kouichi was easily a Ray of Light to her due to his resemblance to him.

Hence IMO your theory may be right. Being Prince Charming is OK but in Akazawa's case she does not look like the girl to fall easily. She may be fragile and short tempered but I don't see her fawning over any guy except if she had some brother complex and if a guy shows any signs of looking like her brother she will fall for him. Assuming that about her character melded into your theory I can say her love for Kouichi can be apparent to that.

As for why not be all over Kouichi, has to do that that Akazawa has a complicated character hence she maybe shy and reserved. I will leave it at that but Akazawa's mental state always gave me shivers despite her hot body. I will miss her:

that's why I did not want to drool much of her in beach but in thee end I lose out and still am attracted to her as much as to Mei. FUCK DEATH!

Sometimes it just robs us of our females and loved ones.

An enjoyable series. I already got a hint that Reiko is the one, but I brushed it off, but one thing that surprise is she and Mikami are one.

It's Finally over...

Too bad Akazawa and the other girls died.

And when the guy got hit by the chandelier, I was like, "OH!, Sooo close..."

In the end we where given a nice conclusion, it was nice to see a heartwarming scene between Sakakibara and Mei.

It was a great ride.

fuck. i didn't hate this finale but i felt nothing throughout. only part that made my blood race for a second was the second floor collapsing just as Mei is about to get skewered. also some of the outdoor backgrounds were gorgeous.

i felt no attachment to the characters mainly because they're reactions and logic were just plain freakin bizarre at times, and i'm not even talking about their turns for the murderous. and some of the 3 second random deaths in this episode were just unintentionally comical (oh pillar oh noez). Kouchi was such a flat and badly written protagonist.

still giving this show an 8 for beautiful character designs and art, strong use of music and mood, and most of the amusing carnage at the end. other than Misaki, the characters were crap, and the mystery mostly fell flat at the end because i have been given no reason to care about any of these characters.
Ooo, what a lovely tea party.

3/5 only because of some loopholes and other stuff. Why give the impression that Mikami and Reiko were two different people? Why does Misaki remember Reiko dying? I thought all memories of the dead one were altered or something. And I thought it was the curse of class 3 where they were missing a desk each year... So why we're the faculty short a desk instead of the class?

He didn't even REMEMBER he had returned to town a year and a half ago and only his dad remembered, because he had not been affected by the curse (the moment Kouichi talked to him his memories went fuzzy too). I swear, how can people forget a detail that was repeated several times over. The Curse affects everything that may lead to someone discovering someone is dead in order to make it seem said person is alive. The grandfather kind of remembered her death because he's been in shock, and even though the curse is so through, it's not perfect. Unconcious memories remain and may be sparked in dreams or by shock (like Akazawa's constant inkling that she knew Kouichi from somewhere and that it had to do with a funeral, namely her brother's).

No, I'm not putting it in spoilers, since this topic is for discussion the episode after all.

I was right after all! It was Mikami, I knew it, she just behaved so suspicious all the show like they wanted to make the viewer draw attention to her. Yes, they did that with multiple characters but eventually they came to know that wasn't the one, and that didn't happen with Mikami. I was still surprised a bit by it though, and even more with the fact that Mikami = Reiko.
Also when we were reminded of all hints, I mainly noticed what Kouichi's grandfather said, I remember that I got confused too at that moment but I just thought it was for some other reason or whatever. Also stupid I forgot that he mentioned 2 and a half years ago many times.

And I'm getting tired of those time-skipping moments at the conclusion of so many anime, but it's not a too bad part of the episode.

But just really, why the hell didn't they explained why the calamity actually happens?! That's one of the main components of this show, with the other one being who the dead one is this year.
The only thing I could think of was that they were possessed, I mean just look at those faces of many characters; some are walking and staring as if they're zombies.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the spin-off/pre-or sequel or whatever the author of the LN is doing, and I'm hoping for an explanation and adaptation. I hope for more awesome Chibiki too.

I didn't know about the manga, but it was (almost) stated in the anime that Akazawa's brother was dead, she dead "Someone dear to me has died." when she rolled down the embankment and before that she yelled "Stupid brother!".

I was glad Naoya and Yuuya didn't get killed by the old lady, thanks to Chibiki-sensei.

That broken pieces of glasses that killed Ayazawa was rather exaggerated, she didn't need to die. I like her, and also her fondness to Kouichi, and their fated meeting before the start of the story.

I'm curious how many that didn't go to the class trip and what their names are.

To me, Akazawa's death was disappointing. I read that in the novel:

and I love sounds like that. (Yea I'm weird..)

About Mikami's murderer.. I don't know if it has been said yet, but I think he was the non-existent one that year, but the burden was too heavy on him and he snapped. But who knows, it will remain a mystery..

About ending the curse forever:

1. Just putting many extra desks in the classroom and faculty room beforehand. Although I am probably thinking too easy now..

2. Put Misaki Mei in the 3-3 class every year, make her check who the dead one is (she seems to be pretty emotionless when it comes to death, now. Even wanting to kill Mikami before Kouchi came and did it instead), get rid of that person as soon as possible, every year over and over, until you have no people left that died because of the curse. It would take.. many, MANY years, I mean, just look at how many people died this year alone, but it would be the solution, I think.

Although, Mei and Kouchi might forget about Mikami soon, too. But on the other hand, others that have been in the 3-3 class still remember about the curse. So it would still be possible that they remember about the curse and that Mei could help. Butbutbut.. AAARGH! *Ruffles hair*

I was expecting Akazawa to be the extra one but oh well, at least Mei isn't the obvious extra. The ending wasn't really that spectacular though. 5/10

I've seen a lot of people say they thought the dead one was going to be Izumi, and that's what I thought, too. Poor Reiko...I'm not sure anyone really saw that one coming.
I was quite disappointed with this episode as well as episode 11; the writers strayed away from the whole supernatural theme of the series and just went for an all-out murderous, gory battle.
Overall the series was great, but I think the ending could have been better.

Mei waited for so long because she wanted to get rid of the competition. Hence the rape face at the end.

"take me, Sakakibara-kun"

LOL, you are awesome. That really made my day.
