This episode was so cliche! When Gai first gave Shu the mission I thought "Yahiro" and I was right! The ending, however, was so shocking. Yahiro's such a backstabbing bitch.

It's like Produciton IG and the CG writers aren't even trying with this. The episode just fits all the same generic cliches and tropes to a tee. Predictable transfer student. Predictable new roommate. Predictable friend involved. Come on. They can at least try to bring it up to Code Geass's standards.

So they answer last episode's plot hole with another plot hole. How the fuck does Gai read other people's voids? Generic anime storyboarding predicts that Gai was clearly experimented on with Void tech when he was a child.

And really. The "rules" for drawing out voids is just stupid. "You can only pull voids from people 17 years old or under"? What the fuck is the point of that? That sounds god damn stupid.

At this rate, Guilty Crown is going to end up being the biggest disappointment of the season. They're hardly even trying to be "original" if all they do is follow the most generic and classic anime tropes there are. At least the ending is some what suspenseful.

Yeah they are following classical anime clishes and patterns but still for some reason this anime gives a sense that there might be something in it. I don't why that is.
But in the end if you think about it Code Geass wasn't any better at that department.

Still it managed to be interesting and absorbing. So this anime might have something coming even if it doesn't show much out of the box thinking at first glance.

Personally im glad that they de-emphasized the whole who 'sugar' was knowing that the viewers already knew by having Shu figure it out without having to extract the scissors. Very nice development at the end too now roll on episode 4.

Not to mention his mother is part of the Sephirah genomics senior team. Which now makes sense that Gai would know Shu since it's obvious that he'd know everything about the Sephirah team including their families.

Btw, you Final Fantasy fanatics would recognize that symbolism of the research team's name. Sephirah sounds a lot like Sephiroth, the genetically enhanced antagonist in Final Fantasy 7 story. Heck, Gai even looks a little bit like Sephiroth, also he's rocking some genetic enhancements himself.

Shu is starting to annoy me a bit. He's quickly turning into a pathetic bumbling idiot protagonist that I tend to loath. The only thing I like about him are his astute observations, similar to Yuuji from Shakagen no Shana.

I would have rather they avoided the classic ecchi plot device known as the boob grab. It happened. I'll deal. But it sorta ruins the whole seriousness of the show. It reminds me of last season's Kamisama Dolls when they go from super serious to fan service ecchi comedy moments at any given scene.

I agree. Few things.
-I think his mom has spoken before;Episode 1 and 3. Possibly 2 and 3. There's a girl with brown hair who rarely spoke.
-I do believe the reason he can only do his void power against people 17 and younger because he is only 17, IIRC.
-I don't like the massive boobage released recently. I need a term for it.
-Boob grab, and him screaming sorry over and over made this go 9->8 for me. I was disappointed in this episode, although the first two were fantastic.
-Inori watches as she sees Shu get captured.
-In the next episode, I believe Shu will reveal about his connections with Funeral Parlor/Undertakers. Hope no one forgot how he didn't want to be with them in the first place, and how much of a wimp MC he is.
-Funeral Parlor/Undertakers will save him, he ends up joining.

Wow Yahiro sure is a great friend, boy am I jealous.

So ain't Inori still in the train with him? Wonder what she's going to do next besides contacting Gai ofc. Tbh why didn't Yahiro push Inori out too, she's part of the Undertakers too. Hmm I am looking forward to the next episode.

Oooh so Shu's mom is basically working with the GHQ. Looks like there's going to be a lot of past to be explored with that and Shu.

Also, technically nothing can "copy" Code Geass since Code Geass plagerized LoGH.

I honestly don't know how to explain why Shu is PUSSY. Or, more to the point, I have a few examples of shounen who AREN'T PUSSY:

All I'm asking for is a male lead who isn't a studdering social outcast; who knows how to defend himself and isn't making excuses to counter his lameness. I KNOW I'm asking the wrong group of people, but...

No offense but I don't see how that is more to the point. You're comparing him to characters from others series, in other settings with different circumstances. And just because they "AREN'T PUSSY" it doesn't automatically make Shuu one. Maybe it would be better for you if he started out as a confident guy he could already fight like a badass, but for me I'm hoping to see a drastic change in him through "character development". I mean isn't that the whole reason they employ the whole "normal boy gets thrown into a crazy situation" kind of trope? It gets old, but there is a reason for it.

I don't see the problem with simulcasting if it's making the show accessible to internationals in a non-illegal way. I don't even watch them but I don't see why they're so bad. It's a form of advertisement, and also allows the companies to see how well the show is doing and how many might be interested in buying their products.

"We give it a few episodes. Then we either watch it or drop it."[i/] Well it's not like they can just simulcast a few episodes only to drop it haha. This is a business for them whereas it's a hobby for us.

And like I was trying to say before they may have seen more of the story than the 3 episodes we have. With the NY festival they did a double screening didn't they? It's not exactly impossible to say that they might have been given access to a few more of the episodes that have already been made before making their decision.

I agree that the way MediaBlasters does it is the better and safer way to go but if FUNi or S23 think they see potential in a series, I'm not against them making more series accessible. And of course they are going to market it, again it's a business, they need to make money. You don't even have to take their word for it since you're going to be watching it yourself anyway. If it flops its their own fault for not properly analyzing possible fan reactions.

Eh forgive me. I'm gonna stop now, I feel bad for having so many tl;dr posts when we should really be discussing the episode. I just can't help replying! :P

Hello again, folks. And welcome to another episode of "MISSING MY POINT ENTIRELY." I'm not necessarily asking for (characters like) Shu to be "badass." But I am asking for him to NOT be "pansy-ass."

And here's a funny thing about "character development:" An anime usually starts off with a cute girl (doing things). The next scene starts off with a young guy getting his butt handed to him because "Japanese Animu Law" dictates it. I hear people talk about "character development" for shows like that and it's like fingernails on a chalkboard IN STEREO and CRANKED PASS 11. It's annoying and needs to stop, but nobody with power is serious enough to do it.

That's my personal opinion about Guilty Crown. And why I believe the people behind it should be punched in their collective face so hard that they somehow magically gain more intelligence, and move on to something more fruitful and less bandwagon-esque. (Or restart GC as hardcore anime porn, but TMMHO.)

Ya know, that's really great, you have an amazing opinion there. You know what else is great?

Anyone and everyone's ability and option to ignore it entirely.

I wish to god more people would exercise this when dealing with haters/people with differing opinions. All you have to do is just talk to someone who shares your opinions, while ignoring the haters/others. It works wonders.

^haha will take that advice and do that from now on. It really is pointless to keep trying to reason with them seeing as they don't seem to understand our views nor we theirs. Hopefully next episode's thread is a bit more positive and focused on the actual episode, unless they decide to come back for god knows what reason. I'm enjoying the show, especially the amazing animation & music. I don't have much problem with the plot like many people either, it's cliche but still entertaining. However, the characters are nothing but disappointments so far. No one is even remotely interesting to me. Inori, while pretty, has no personality to speak of. And the main lead, lol, I won't even waste time to talk about him.
Here hoping we will get some interesting villains soon.

I think the reason voids can only be pulled from people 17 and younger is because voids are like imagination or something. Once you get too old, that kid spirit disappears and a void cannot be pulled anymore.
But there is one thing that confused me, why did Yahiro say if you joined the Undertakers you'd have more of a workout? Why would he just let it slip that he was there?

Good episode, was pretty obvious that Inori was going to stay @ Shu's place.
Shu has also gotten pretty popular by that boob *accident* XD.

Ending was awsome, Inori looked so worried at Shu.

I'm wondering what'll happen next week. Gai will probably go and rescue Shu, and asks Shu yet again to join him. Because I doubt that Shu has the courage atm to fight those guards/soldiers(?) all alone, even tho he has that power.

Anyways, Shu's ''once-in-a-lifetime adventure'' ain't once in a lifetime at all, I'm sure about that.

Shu suprisingly isn't annoying, just a bit in 2 or so scenes. I felt something fishy about that everyone's-friend guy from the start, but after they made up i though he'd join Undertaker with Shu and become a Suzaku kind of guy, or just do nothing other than living to the end.
Overall, a really good episode, Inori is ≺3 Sure do want to see what happens next week.

Just watched this episode --
So this show sure likes shooting out some ass hats. But I don't particularly mind Yahiro; in fact, I think he's intriguing. Or at least more so than the main characters. I wonder why he felt so obligated to be that sympathetic person people thought he was? To feel accepted? But it felt more like frustration that he couldn't be his true self for some reason -- though I guess a good reason would be having been completely rejected by his peers in the past for being himself. And for good reason, if he's always a jerkass, but I really doubt that.

I'm probably over thinking him right now, though -- but he's honestly the character I'm most interested in so far.

And that's my problem with Guilty Crown -- I have little to no emotional investment in the show. I don't particularly care about any of the main characters and I usually do become fond of certain characters early on; I find myself more interested in all of Shu's classmates lol.
But the show just might not be my type of show, anyway. I was only interested in the first place because of ryo and redjuice, and that seriously can't keep me forever.

Since Yahiro had blamed Shu for being one of those people to create that false image of him (for lack of better wording /shot), I wasn't surprised that he betrayed him. I just didn't expect it so soon, though. x: Wouldn't it be more beneficial to him to blackmail him? lol.

Overall, a pretty good-decent episode. I found myself raising my eyebrows at several parts in the episode (like the under 17 rule) and, well, the fanservice. . . not fond of it at all. :x

I seriously had to wonder about Shu pulling people's Voids out, though. Why did he think it was a good idea to do his first try in front of a lot of people? Even if people don't see actual things being pulled out, there's still the other person practically fainting. It's a good thing he failed. :v . . . oh, and it looks pretty painful on the other person too; see Souta.
But I was amused by the refrigerator, and the general concept of Voids representing people's "hearts" I find interesting.

I found it clever/cute that the ED had snippets of what happened in the episode though. And that Miwa Shirow end card asdjkas;dhas;fsahfh
how about a huke one then -- ? /shot.

It was known even before the show started that she would be attending his school, though I guess you have to be one of the ones that payed attention to promotional material ehehe (:

I love having the light-hearted school settings cause it kind of acts as a contrast to the rest of the action going on. I hate to bring it up but its the same with CG. I loved their school scenes since it gave you a break from (awesome) plotting, fighting mechas so they could show more of the characters and the world. You also get to see Lelouch's "physical abilities" or lack thereof.

Meepy: I don't really feel an emotional investment to the characters either but only time will tell. They're not really the type of characters you fall in love with straight away (like Rider from F/Z) but maybe we will after seeing more of their ~journey~. I don't usually expect myself to emotionally connected to the story or the characters at this stage anyway, unless they're tearjerkers or something. ;A;

First comment in the forum for me! woohoo =D

So far, my impression for this show:

1. The music and songs are EXCELLENT.

2. The camera angles and filmwork are EXCELLENT.

3. The script is quite poorly written, creating a lot of potholes.

In episode 1, When the Antibody military forces stormed Inori's hiding place / Shu's lunch place, there is NO FREAKING WAY they didn't arrest Shu / kill him.
COME ON NOW. If you were the commander, won't you SEARCH THE DAMN PLACE if you knew that the girl stole something from your organization?
If I were the script writer, Shu would have NEVER had visual contact with the military. He MUST find a place to hide. There is NO WAY he just walked out like that in episode 1.

Later in episode 1, when Shu brought the Void Genome canister tube thingy into the Infection Zone and met Gai, he did not IMMEDIATELY give it to Gai. WTF?? If the script was better written, at least we the audience might see a monologue of his inner thoughts / doubts about verifying Gai's identity before offering Gai the canister tube. But Nope. He was just standing there, pathetically shaking.

In episode 3, one of the rules for his power is the person with his Void extracted FORGETS about the incident. so HOW IN THE WORLD does Yahiro the scissor boy remember his conversation with Shu about being a Sugar / drug addict?

Welcome to the forums.

Agreed it was a plot hole. It seemed very sloppy that after they subdued the terrorist they wouldn't detain and question Shu then search the premises. I guess they may have thought that she had hidden it somewhere else but common sense would be to still look in the immediate area.

That isn't what happened, before Shu even had the chance to do anything Tsugumi snatched it away from him.

Here's an idea, quit watching the damn thing if you aren't enjoying it? 90% of the people watching are loving it; sucks to be the odd one out, but like I said if you aren't enjoying it edit your list and add it to the drop section, it's not hard. Unless you're posting flaming comment just to seek attention? Well then I can't help you there anymore. ;(

I'm pretty much sure producers of Guilty Crown made a bet with somebody (probably with Sacred Seven staff) on who will cram more cliches and otaku pandering in their show.
This series so far - meh.
