I honestly got annoyed with the animation at some parts of the movie. Like when Tomoya and Sunohara go to start a fight with the people marking Nagisa's posters, then the teacher comes out of no where and starts busting out some DBZ moves. I didn't know high school teachers could teleport. XD But what got to me most was Tomoya's attitude in the beginning. I was just like "NO NO NO, HE WASN'T THAT COOL IN THE SERIES". but you know, its a different adaptation of the game, so they can do whatever they want. I just didn't totally agree with it after watching the Clannad series Tomoya act kinda goofy with those random scenarios he'd dream up on the fly. Though I did get really sad at the end. I watched the movie before I watched After Story so I was very sad. But it was a good movie, overall. Nagisa in the wedding dress was adorable. :D |

I, for one, was not one of those people since I was told that this had massive spoilers (since I was watching the TV series at the time). Kinda wish I did though, since the double-whammy of Nagisa/Ushio sent me into depression for two weeks. I do feel the movie captured the post-Nagisa depression better, since they gloss over it in the TV series and then proceed to the bonding with Ushio. They both have different interpretations of family though; the movie focused on reuniting the group as a whole in Nagisa's memory, while the series is more about reconnecting with broken bonds, like Tomoya's dad and Ushio. tl;dr Different strokes for different folks, separate the series and the movie and watch them in a different light. |

I'm just being strict about it. Hence I gave it a 6 (Fine). If I really have hated it, it would've received a 5 (Average). It's fine, not bad, could've been better - basically what everyone else that's not biased have said so far. |

Well I'm glad I watched it after watching After Story. I know that making comarisions between TV series and movie is useless, but I can't hold myself. The movie was in my opinion much morse than TV series. What did they do to Nagisa's personality?... She was totally different from what I used to - more confident and talkative - I prefered her being a bit shy. And Nagisa in TV series made me feel more sympathy for her. Yes, I also cried, but must admit that TV series were more touching for me - characters' personalities had more depth than in the movie. Last but not least - I am used to TV seyiuus... To sum up: not bad, but also not awesome for me |

This movie was wierd tbh :P Everyone was just acting differently compared to the series so it was a bit hard to watch...And Nagisa already calling Tomoya for Tomoya already at the start felt weird for some reason too. Though the ending was pretty neat but I preffer the series ending ^^ Overall 8/10. |

And Nagisa in TV series made me feel more sympathy for her. that was a major issue for me. i don't know why people are rating this movie so high. it's a decent movie on its own; however, the movie honestly didn't make sense. all the characters are odd. especially nagisa's character. while in the tv series, she is portrayed as introverted, quiet, and shy; the movie shows nagisa to be happy, upbeat, and actually strong. so why does this cheerful nagisa need tomoya's help with anything? sunohara and all the side characters are poorly done as well; they really had no purpose. the illusionary world was pretty bad. the whole concept seemed to be forced into the plot simply because the game had it. the only highlight to the movie is the ending. at least the ending brought back what the true message of clannad was suppose to be: family. the rest of the story was like a corny love drama. sure, the movie is more realistic; but overall, it's not constructed well. i rated it a 6/10. i probably would have gave it a 5, but the ending boosted it to a 6. |

I enjoyed this movie a lot. Not watching any of the series before, I found it to be very good. But, after browsing this forum I feel I should have waited until after I watched the series? Oh well, I always watch everything in release order, so there's no avoiding it. I just feel you should watch it in the order the majority of the Japanese audience saw it. Even if this contradicts the continuity and spoils things, I just feel this is how it should be watched. Urahara Out!! |

i thought it was fun to watch. it was much bleaker than the series (well, yeah, ~as~ was really sad but this was depressing in a... more realistic way), and i'm a sucker for that kind of stuff, so that's probably why. it's also nice to see a new take on things even though i wished they fleshed out their relationship a little more because the movie was, you know, completely focused on them. (the sudden changes of heart were kind of odd but i'm not too sure about this because it was also sudden in the series and huh what where am i) also tomoya had a hot voice bam |

I'm in two minds about this...firstly, the movie gives more time to the smaller plot details that the series brushed over slightly (like Tomoya's shoulder injury and what happened to Sunohara after graduation), which was brilliant. However, the Nagisa I knew and loved was replaced by a much more confident and determined clone, which was uncomfortable to say the least...and why the hell is Kotomi conducting an orchestra instead of getting screen time?? Shame on you Toei :-/ I actually prefer the dream world and ending in this than the TV series. No wacky inexplicable ending this time! Yeah, of course it felt rushed. That's what happens when you try to compress what would become a 48 episode series into a 90 minute movie. It still turned out to be pretty good though, so I'ma give it a 7 as thanks for the wonderful final scene :-D |

I liked enjoyed, it's a good alternate storyline for Clannad. I like how the movie gave Tomoya's friends a role in snapping him out of his depression, while in the anime his friends decided to leave him alone during his depression. I also liked how the movie went slightly into detail about Tomoya's fight with his Dad along with Sunohara's fight with the soccer team. When comparing the movie to the anime, I strongly believe the Clannad After Story anime is far superior and emotional than the movie is. |

Honestly, I feel that it was better than the TV series in some ways, and worse in others. The biggest problem was the length, I feel like it needed another 30 minutes to an hour to accomplish the emotional build up that the TV series accomplished (though, if you read between the lines, it means I feel the movie needed 2 1/2 hours to accomplish what the TV series accomplished in 2 seasons!) Some things I liked better than the series: 1. The delinquent feel was real. In the TV series, they were supposedly delinquent, but they didn't give that impression at all. This movie captured the feeling of being a "bad boy" at school very well. 2. No stupid bullshit ending, you know what I'm talking about if you see the series. 3. Despite getting rid of the happy ending to the TV series, they managed to end the movie on a ray of hope. 4. The animation was worse, but the art was better IMO. Like, the background scenes from the dream? That's pretty killer shit right there! Also, this is totally subjective and I know most will disagree, but I liked the character designs more in this one. They felt more vibrant, where in the TV series they seemed too cutesy to me to express any real emotion half the time. It was kind of like watching aliens from Planet Moe instead of real people sometimes. I especially preferred the robot-thingy from the dream, in the series it was kind of stupid and "cute" (which was inappropriate for the context of those scenes IMO) That said, the series had better comedy, and a heck of a lot more context. I thought the protagonist was more charming in the series, probably because of the comedy aspects. In the end, I have to rate this equally to the TV series. Both are good in different ways. Edit: I guess I'll be more specific and say I preferred it to the first season, but After Story was still better. |

Like the Air movie, it bravely takes a knife to the flabby excesses of the original story. Eliminating Ryou, Fuko, and Kotomi was an especially good decision. Nagisa now has some vitality to her rather than just being a moeblob who apparently can't do anything on her own. The male lead is vulnerable and human rather than the savior-of-all center of the universe. Failures of the original (like Tomoya's supposed identity as a bored, bitter asshole) actually work here. I think it overreaches, though. I haven't seen Clannad: After Story yet because I was under the mistaken impression that this movie didn't adapt any material from that, but taking the story five years past the initial setting is beyond the capability of a 90-minute film. They should have contented themselves with telling a decent love and personal redemption story. |

It's Was OKAY For Me. Animations Are Weird, BGMs Are Also Weird Which I Imagine I'm Watching A Different Series Especially Their Character Design. Not Worth Giving Any Laugh Or Any Emotions Although I Laughed At Some Sunohara Scenes But Then Again It's Totally Normal. Also, All Of Their Personalities Are WAY TOO OFF. -Tomoya's Coolness Is Gone. He's Somewhat A Derpy Derp. -Sunohara Became A Hardworking(Not From His Studies FYI) Person Already? I Have More Something To Say About Sunohara In The Movie But I Dunno What Should I Put. -Kyou And Tomoyo Became Friends Already And The First Time I Saw Them I Thought They're Antagonists On This Series. D: -Nagisa Became So Clingy To Tomoya Every Time On The Hill Scene That It Made Me Somewhat Annoyed. As If She Knew Tomoya Already (Mindfucked). I Really Like Her Shyness Better. -And Many More Like Tomoya's Father, Akio, Ibuki-sensei, Yoshino. Sanae Is Somewhat The Same Or I Dunno. Maybe Toei Was Trying To Make It Very Original But In The End It's Totally Sucks. 8/10. The Very Last Scene Really Saved This Movie. |

No matter what everybody said. Whether this movie is more realistic than the original, or the original is just a supernatural thing, This movie is a total crap... Well, here's the thing the art and the music are just awful especially the dango daikazoku... I enjoyed the one in original. But when i heard this, I just like dafuq?? Then, I didn't even found something that makes you interested in watching like the feeling that you get in original. For The story line... Let's say that they made it so that it can fit the running time. Even though, it's just awful to change the illusionary world concept, to skip the Tomoya and Nagisa living together part, and to cut off where he finally met Ushio.. Well, for some part like Nagisa drama, and Sunohara role (especially after Nagisa death) I prefer this one though Overall, I just recommend for those who already watch the original, you better not watch this and for those who watched the movie first, go watch the original 6/10 |

This movie is aright. The characters changed thier personatily.I don't like they changed them. The animation is ok but not great. Music is ok. The seires is way better than the movie. The only thing it make it better is akkio doing funny stuff and the ending. Other than that i don't liked it. |

Although I still like the series better, I did think the movie was good. It did have some things that were better than the series like Nagisa's play and the ending in After Story. Those were done much better in the movie, I have to admit. I honestly think everyone's exaggerating on how bad the movie is. Whilst it was missing a lot of detail and the depth with the characters was not that good, it was far from absolutely terrible. The animation was average at most and the music wasn't memorable so I can agree with everyone there but apart from that, it was alright. I've seen much worse movies than this. |

I can't give this show a credit because of very poor animation and most of the scenes were forced. Character development is too rushed which I thought of myself they became OOC in just a matter of seconds for the sake of the original plot. I don't really mind the story. In fact, I'm somewhat okay with it. |

the movie seems like a parody of the tv series, maybe cause how they portrayed it >,< the characters are a bit OFF, their personalities, etc..... Since this is Toei animation (oldddddd STYLE animation), the movie feels like some OPERA LOL. Still.....pretty interesting, some funny moments, and pretty sweet ending. :) It's good, but the TV series 100000 X better by far |

at first i thought it would be bad cause it was only humor and small drama but the final half hour or longer made it all good again. for some reason the movie couldn't keep up with the emotional feelings that the anime had but non the less i still enjoyed it just as much as the anime if it is not better. |

Personally the first 60-70 minutes really had me on the fence about this movie, I understand it came before the series but it just didn't captivate me. The last third really redeemed it though, I'm glad I ended up watching it. I enjoyed the play more in this movie than in the tv series (we got to learn more about it, it was connected to Tomoya, and Nagisa looked fantastic in that wedding dress :>). The end scene was very touching as well (not on par with the series but still great). The first hour or so had me pegged at a 6/10, but the rest of it really came to life and now I'm going to stand strong with an 8/10. Thanks for one last tear before I wrapped you up Clannad :'). |

I really liked how we see just how delinquent pre-series Tomoya is. In the series, it's more like 'Is it more Cromartie High School like delinquent?' (Like, it appears like they're delinquents, but they actually have a heart of gold) I also liked how it filled some of the things that the series just brushed over, and how it had a better comedy. Also, I liked how realistic the ending is. None of that implied supernatural bullshit (that you have to read the original source to really get). Tomoya is still heartwrenched by Nagisa's death. The character design/animation was hilarious as fuck. Also it was a while after I watched ~After Story~ when I watched this and when Nagisa's grave (?, I don't know what to call it) came up, I was violently remembered that she died. So many tears. Nagisaaa. |

So the series was better than the movie in almost every way in my opinion, with a few exceptions. One of the main exceptions being the ending (After Story's ending was crap in my opinion, the movie's ending was great because it was bittersweet and didn't end with an asspull). I also like how it didn't have any of that supernatural light orb nonsense in the movie. In all honesty, I like Sunohara more in this movie than in the series, his character seemed more in-depth here (man him crying was deep). Other than those, it was inferior to the series in almost every aspect, but still good nonetheless. I had problems getting used to the character design, and the character personalities didn't seem that interesting (well for the most case. Akio, Sanae and Sunohara were still pretty awesome for the most part). The art and animation wasn't as good as the series, but what can you expect considering when it was released. It seemed a bit rushed due to time restraints, and it skipped a lot of things that I liked about the first series. 7/10 |

OH GOD WHAT DID I JUST WATCH. This was a real joke and gives shame to the name 'Clannad'. I never thought character art could get worse than the Clannad series, I was so wrong. Also, the animation movement was so choppy, I feel like I could have done a better job. And what was with all those double takes during scenes... The story was completely warped and even though I said I would have preferred if Nagisa had actually died in the series, this ending was terrible. That run to Ushio at the end had me in tears from laughing so hard! The sound was appalling, the background music was misplaced and to top it off, it just sounded terrible. But I actually liked the Dango song better in the movie, the one from the series was too depressing to tell the story of a happy family. The worst part was that the characters were completely different, they somehow managed to ruin Akio and Sunohara for me. Sunohara turned into a Gorilla, Nagisa became assertive, Okazaki became bland and humour-less and so many characters were missing! I understand it was too short to introduce too many characters but why put in Kyou and not Ryou? Not that I'm complaining... I never liked Ryou after that annoying Kyou special. All in all, this shouldn't have been a part of the Clannad experience. I would have liked it much, much more if it was a movie on its own, all they had to do was change character names and they would have pulled it off. If I wasn't rating it as a part of Clannad, I'd give it a 6/10, otherwise it's an easy 4/10. EDIT I just found out that this was made just before the series! In that case, I don't think the movie should be compared to the series since the movie was made even before the manga was finished. But, it still wasn't that great so I'll stick with the 6/10. |
