well I just got a job and I saw on amazon a haruhi figure (statue don't know the actual name for them) but it's 200$ is that to much? Now i'm not an adult so I don't need the money for food and gas or anything like that, my parents do that stuff hehehe.

I am not into collecting anime goodies, so my answer might not be of any worth as I don't have a clue about price indicators for those figures. I personally would never pay 200$ for such thing (I think 20$ is already a lot to spend on a figure..), I think it's a ridiculous high prize for a figure. However, if you really want it, what holds you back? :)

I think $200 is a bit much, especially in the RECESSION...

Maybe you could look on EBAY and try to find it cheaper, besides the last thing you want is to "buyer's remorse" on a $200 item.

Check the yen prices at hlj.com, they have the Japan retail prices. I think normally (in my country, that is) the prices only differ around 10% or so, so if it's higher than that, you can say it's overpriced.

Well.....I've seen some for like 70,000 yen (800ish USD?) in Akiba and Nihonbashi...
If it was a figure I _really_ wanted, can't find it anywhere else after very extensive research I might consider buying one for 200USD. But just maybe.

The most expensive figure I have bought so far has cost me 12,000 yen (130ish USD?). It's a extremely beautiful and valuable (the marketprice has increased to like 16,000 yen since I bought it) one so I don't regret it at all.

depends on how good it is ... or how much you like the anime/character...for instance I payed around 150 for my Kaworu(NGE) figure but I would never pay that much for a Haruhi figure though I like both the anime and the character :D I suppose there is more than the price that you may have to pay(if you live in the USA or any other Amazon country then not) because shipping gets quite expensive(nice for those that don't have to pay almost the price of the figure to have it shipped)

I got some figurines that are around €100,- (that's aprox $140). It's a hobby so I don't mind spending money on it. Besides, I'd rather have 1 expensive good looking figurine of a character I like than have 5 shitty ones of generic characters.

Most figures run between $50-$300 (You can find some good bargain ones for around $20 if you are lucky)

Rarer ones can go up to $800 (don't buy unless you are into that specific character or anime)

Anything higher and it isn't worth it unless you can find a life sized figure but you must figure out would you have the room for it.

I assume you mean this figure?

I personally wouldn't pay so much for a 1/8 figure, especially since the few 1/8 figures I've brought in the past retail at around $30 - $80 (and checking hobby sites showed me this is still the average sort of price for 1/8's). If this figure isn't limited edition or something, I'd have to say it seems horribly overpriced for what it is.

However, it's *your* money and if you can justify dropping so much on a figure, then go right ahead.

Only buy it if you think you will want to have it several years from now. Buying it from hlj might be cheaper for the price but the shipping will shoot it up really fast.

When I was living at home, going to a cheaper school, and working 20 hours a week, I had money to spend on this kind of stuff. When I went to a con, I'd usually buy 2 to 4 figures at $30-60 each, but rarely anything more expensive than that. Nowadays money's way too tight to spend any money at all on figures and the like :\

If it is for a hobby then spend what you want. If it is for an investment then worry about price. If I see an anime T-shirt or windbreaker I want, I buy it no matter what the price. I look around for the best deal, but if I want it I will buy it. You may not have a chance to buy something later if you don't do it now.

$200 is overpriced for a 1/8 figure by all means, yeah. The most I've paid for a figure is $150 for a 1/7, and it's an old one that hasn't been available for a fair while, so has appreciated. It will continue to do so, though, so it's all good.

Sonic Fate may end up costing me about $200 shipped when she comes out (again); quite a large box apparently.

I agree with most above posters, $200 is definitely too much for your average 1/8 figure. I've gotten some of the rather high quality sort, one 1/6 and one 1/7 for around 100$, and the most expensive I've gotten was that fancy 1/8 VN02 Miku for around 130$. But with these we're talking quite big and elaborate figures.
So if it's the one ozwell linked we're talking about, then it's a ridiculous price. I've seen it for around 90$ at Hlj, discontinued and out of stock, but over double the price is still rather absurd if you ask me. Besides, there's plenty of other Haruhi figures out there, and the franchise likely isn't dead yet, so you can expect to see plenty of more figures coming out. I'd suggest waiting till another cool one comes by and grab that instead.

I think it really depends on how much your are willing to pay, and your budget as well as your priorities to other bills you may have. For me I would probably pay no more than 100 bucks for one. Especially if it means you won't have enough to pay your house or apartment bill, then it's too much. XD I also can't see paying all too much for something that it just going to sit on your shelf.

I don't understand why people are being so agitated by the thought of figurine prices being so high. You are supposed to get what you pay for, and if the item is rare, in good condition and in demand, then obviously the price is higher.

The problem is obviously identifying when the price matches with the product's integrity. This can only be done by the buyer, through research and the 'I need it this much' feeling.

I work at a resale shop, so I know how these things go. I've interacted with plenty of people who complain about correct prices. I don't have any figurines, but I can understand why figurines can be and are so expensive.

I think that for a lot of people here $200~ is A LOT of money, considering that will get you 1 decent figurine it's a bit overkill. On the other hand, the prices are created through the simple process of supply and demand.

$200 will pay for 2-3 quality figures new, in most cases. If you're in to shitty figmas/nendos then it could get quite a few more as they're really cheap.

With currency conversion and shipping I just average it out to being $100 each for the figures I buy. Not exact but close enough.

If that figure would satisfies your needs, then buy it. Better than buying hooker because that would cost you like 1 500 bucks - at least the decent ones.

They tend to be a wee bit more expensive in Holland, atleast Ebay and Amazon dealers often charge retarded shipping fees and European websites often convert the dollar sign into the euro sign. I generally pay 80~ euro for a decent figurine. If you want an exclusive one (like rare and whatnot) it can go up to 150~ euro. (€1 = $1.32 iirc).

Depends on the anime involved, you can get most K-ON figures for less than $120, but go into more lucrative genres such as ecchi and hentai you'll be paying close to $200. Out of the three fall 2010 anime that have figures that'll be released only the Sora figure from Yosuga no Sora costs above $100. Also, the more popular the anime, the more figures and less costly most of them will be.

Still, that's usually just for cold cast stuff, or very large figures. A standard 1/8 PVC figure won't usually have such a steep price, regardless of genre or series.

Outside of Japan with weird moralistic markups, maybe. I've not seen many figures go for over 9000 yen new, unless they're quite large (1/7+ scale) in fact many H figures tend to be cheaper because they're often from lower profile studios that can't warrant the markups.

eg http://www.amiami.jp/shop/?set=english&vgForm=ProductInfo&sku=FIG-MOE-2365&template=default/product/e_display.html is a larger figure by an AAA studio, so it's quite pricy; more than the average price, for sure.

http://www.amiami.jp/shop/?set=english&vgForm=ProductInfo&sku=FIG-MOE-2209&template=default/product/e_display.html is a run of the mill H figure (maybe NSFW, though the main link doesn't show much) at a fairly average price.

http://www.amiami.jp/shop/?set=english&vgForm=ProductInfo&sku=FIG-MOE-2345&template=default/product/e_display.html is a Yosuga figure that is rather expensive, but it's also 1/4 scale, as I said; large figures cost more. http://www.amiami.jp/shop/?set=english&vgForm=ProductInfo&sku=FIG-MOE-1541&template=default/product/e_display.html is 1/6 but quite cheap, because it's a good bit smaller. Neither are hentai figures, though.

Anyway, what people spend money on is their own choice, so who cares how much they invest in to their hobbies?
