In the wake of OPM S3 discourse, let's share some truly derailed anime productions. I volunteer Gundoh Musashi: a Monkey Punch anime that was deliberately made to be bad, had an incredibly tight production schedule, and was entirely animated in Korea and China. Read more here:

It would be remiss not to mention Gundam SEED Destiny as well, whose production troubles have already been widely documented and discussed.

I think people should really give that a second try. Binging the whole thing on a second watch through, it was much better than I remember the weekly-ish release being.

@GrumbleDango Second that. It was so much better when I went back to it after pausing it.

@StarlaFox Yep, it's just a shame the score is so low. With the recent popularity of Watanare, people might be interested in Sasakoi due to having the same artist, but be turned off by the score.

Idol Tenshi Yokoso Yoko has a lot of dirt on its Japanese wikipedia page.
https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/アイドル天使ようこそようこ
The first problem is that the protagonist has nothing in common with the real life idol she's meant to advertise! All I wanted to do after watching was listen to more Mika Kanai, who voices Yoko.
Another problem was that episode writers faced little oversight, resulting in a lack of consistency between episodes.
The biggest scandal was the treatment of Yoko's friend Saki. Audiences liked her, apparently, but the show's sponsors did not. The head writer spent a lot of time arguing with people who insisted he cut Saki's screen time.
The show was finally cancelled and its unused scripts repurposed for Minky Momo.

now...i will admit...Demon Lord Retry, In Another World With My Smartphone, and Fruit of Evolution's 1st seasons weren't all that great...but damn did their sequels suck ass.
Peach Boy Riverside isn't a bad show...but whoever decided to order the episodes the way they did deserves a swift kick in the ass...makes watching it unbearable.
Strike the Blood S4 and 5...ooof...bad translations, bad adaptation...just not a good time.
Shield Hero S2...wtf lol
Log Horizon S3 was rushed so hard its like the studio was trying to speedrun "how to ruin an anime"
OPM3...wow...talk about a trainwreck compared to the first 2 seasons.
7 deadly sins S4 and beyond were also trash compared to previous seasons.
Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World Season 2...this was so bad that i actually dropped it...

You mention that and not season 4? It was delayed for months when one of the people making it died.

@Lucifrost I didn't mention season 4 because I haven't seen it- so had no idea. I stopped watching that show at the end of S2.
It's very ugly and the concepts do not appeal to me.

I think the truly famous example is Evangelion: the last couple of episodes was a mess. IIRC at one point the production team claimed that they just didn't have the time to put together a proper ending, although I think Anno also backtracked another time and was like "yeah I totally meant for the ending to be like that".

A more recent example...

Chiramune (Chitose wa Ramune Bin no Naka / Chitose is in a Ramune Bottle) from earlier this year.

Something's going on there; they keep abruptly postponing their episode airings, although you see no signs of the art quality disintegrating due to budget or time constraints. I've heard rumors that they are tweaking the script, but nobody knows what the deal is really. Add to that the fact that a lot of viewers didn't have a good impression of the story right off the bat despite how visually appealing it looks. The characters feel very "cringe" and seem to be unrealistically written, despite the realism in the setting and art style. It seems like a lot of viewers in Japan are dropping this show after just the first episode. Those who have already read the original novel had been warning us that the MC is uncanny.

I've been watching Chiramune, and it's a fairly decent show. Plot is predictable, but the animation is very detailed, and the character design is awesome. But I do see why people think that the MC and his friend group are cringe, especially the MC's monologues.

I remember watching a livestream of the anime's announcement way before the show itself aired (Anime Japan YouTube stream I think?) and Ikumi Hasegawa (Yuzuki Nanase's CV) insisted on pushing through the first couple volumes' worth of content for the anime to get good. It was odd, almost like subtly hinting that the story is kinda iffy until past her character arc.

It is impossible to derail the production of anime, let's be honest. All anime is coherent and logical.
I have approximately 1 terabyte of anime on my computer.

The Beginning After the End

It received backlash for having abysmal animation, but TBATE fans are eating good this time since the backlash wasn't as strong as that OPM parallel. What a surprise.

All of Shaft anime, between 2004-2015 had notable changes between the broadcast and home video releases. They reached the point to affect the openings.

I remember the second season of Kancolle had so many production issues that the episodes would sometimes get several-week-long delays, the baddies had wrong hair colors, there was a scene or two with unfinished animation where characters looked bald...it was pretty funny.

And yet, it's a neat watch now that "finished" episodes are available. Funny how some things work out.

Also, I can never remember the title, but wasn't there some relatively recent generic fantasy or romcom show that was only remembered because the director went to jail for kidnapping? I wish I could remember what was it, that story was so morbidly amusing.
Your planet is really bright.
