This was a team effort based episode. Ruri's discovery of that box and getting her friends to work together kinda sums up the theme of the show.

They also got gems altogether too so it's a meaningful episode, almost felt like a seasonal finale.

Such a good job by the girls to get the radio working and be able to listen to the music.

OH MY GOD THE INSTRUMENTAL OP TO THE OP WHEN THEY LISTENED TO THE RADIO, SO GOOD.

im so happy that Ruri and Seto have started to gain more confidence and independence to do their own things regarding Geology. It was also sweet that Ruri's friend tagged along through all of this.

amazing episode.

(also, it looks like maybe a trip episode with Imari's lottery win?)

I always thought the concept of radiios to be cool as fuck. After this episode, I might just give it a shot too.

Good that we could see Ruri's gyaru friend involvement in this episode.

Honestly I think it's kinda funny that they used the opening song as the sound that they heard on the earphone lol

Another awe inspiringly beautiful episode. I just can’t believe BIND put this much into a show about rock hunting man. That last shot of the girls staring at the stars is so nostalgic. This show just makes me feel shit, man. The finale is gonna wreck me I’m sure just like Onimai did.

The show has long since established rocks as being a way to connect with the past, so Ruri restoring this crystal radio is like her connecting with her grandfather and learning about him. It was so nice seeing her remain committed to her goal of experiencing the radio in the same manner her grandfather did. Even when she and the girls got the radio up and working, it wasn’t using the same stone so it’s not quite the same thing that he went through. Going back to the temple and meeting the old man who I presume was a good friend of her grandfather’s was very powerful.

I’m also happy Aoi is finally in the group and we have the complete trio of Ruri’s friends now. Aoi kinda just tagging along for now, but last episode we found out she’s actually very smart given her elective class interests. Sucks we’re only gonna have like one episode with her :/

PSA: When lifting boxes off of a shelf, like we saw Ruri do in the beginning, it is important to lift them a little first, to gauge their weight, before moving them off the shelf. Just push the box up with your fingers when it starts to peak over the edge, so you're not caught by surprise from the weight.

Also, from that position, you can bend your hands backwards and slide the box onto your palms, and then adjust your hand positions based how big the box is.

It only takes a few seconds longer than what most people do, but I've never once dropped a box, even if they were significantly heavier than they looked.
Authentic.

I don't know why but I opened YouTube to listen Bruce Springsteen's Radio Nowhere right after I finished this episode.

Oh man, I actually had one of these things as a kid! It was a gift from someone, maybe my neighbor. I cannot recall if it ever actually worked, though. I don't think I had a an earphone for it. But the nostalgia. LOL

It was good to have the gyaru friend actually partake and have something to do with the episode’s plot. Very nice that she wasn’t being judgy — but open minded to learn and spend time with them.

As a Yasuda Rei's fan, I love how her song plays an important role in this episode.

This episode shows how rocks play a role even in materials science.

OMG, this was such a great episode. Not only for the continued cuteness of all the characters, but I'm an electrical engineer, and the part where they were working on the repairs to the radio was so nostalgic to me.

Such a lovely episode that connects generations through the recreation of an artifact as old as a radio. Not only did this have proper electronics explanations but it also featured attempts with different kinds of minerals. Aoi even met Nagi and Imari just before the final episode and led them to even listen to the opening theme through a broadcast.

This series has been nailing everything it had going for it. It's sad to see it go but regardless, there's gonna be one more.

Was that a future character that appears in the manga when they first went shopping for parts? Her design seemed too distinct to be a random background character lol. This was a really good one tho, the crystal radio stuff was very cool, radio in general may be a fragment of the past but there are still radio stations, and it was cool to learn that the tech used in crystal radios is still technically used today. I also really liked that Ruri felt connected to her grandpa during the last bit of the episode when they got a great connection with the radio (the instrumental OP song was well done here too), very wholesome indeed.

I also just enjoyed seeing the girls do stuff without the college babes in this one, they even included Aoi which was a nice addition to the radio repairing and testing. And I am very sad to say we have just one episode left, it’s been a fun rock filled journey over this summer, I’m gonna miss it a lot.

@UtakaSenpai I have an even better method: ask a friend to get the box, while you film them with your phone from a prudent distance.

Wow, Ruri went from looking for pretty rocks to using her gained knowledge to connect with her grandfather's generation. Great job to the girls for repairing the old radio, I did not expect the opening to play when they finally got to listen to a broadcast, that scene with the song playing was so beautiful it made me tear up a bit.

There's still the final episode next week and based on the lottery won by Imari-san, could it be a hot spring trip or something? (I mean I've seen those in a lot of shows before haha).

edit: saw this on JPtwitter and seems like the side characters with designs that stand out are from the mangaka's other work Daikagaku Shoujo.

I really don't want this anime to end. It's amazing beyond belief! It's not perfect, but it's truly enjoyable.
Pretend there's something flashy and cool here.

This is shaping up to be my favorite episode of this anime season.
It was so much fun to follow along, and every time new minerals and rocks appear, you think, "Now I know what that is! How cool!" It's a very rewarding feeling to learn and see the things you've learned.
Not to mention the good direction, animation, and timing of the main theme song hitting the airwaves. Congratulations, episode 10/10.

It's so wholesome, I really like how Ruri gets involved into science and has classmates who join in. And I actually learnt something about radio physics!

It was great seeing the girls come together and make a crystal radio. Nagi was all fired up to help them too until Imari reminded her she needed to actually do some work. I think this shows that Nagi welcomes her interactions with Ruri and puts to rest the opinion that Ruri is bothering her.

Absolutely awesome episode it's so cool how they mixed the main rock subject with other technologies like the radio device that uses rocks. And it's even better than Ruri is respecting her grandfather legacy and making this device work again at the sanctuary where the old generation used to use them back then, lovely episode, and it's also cool that everyone was here, even the school's friend
