Who knew character bonds can be felt through fried rice. Shiroha and Nanami's relationship is so wholesome in this arc.

On the other hand, Shiroha is still young in this show so her feeling are kinda all over the place again. Feels like this episode/arc has its emotional swings often.

I’m so fucking slow man how did I not connect the doubts that Nanami is umi from the future lmao. Literally went over the “umi” bit and saw her hair color last week, but it never clicked to me.

I thought she was a combination of Shiroha parents, but still looks like she’s playing the role I thought she was in helping Shiroha come to terms with losing her parents. It does raise the question of what happened to Shiroha’s mother, she tried to use her ability to reach the dad, but did she turn into a butterfly or just legitimately die when she jumped off the cliff. And then does that make this whole story a time loop where umi helps Shiroha get over her trauma and Shiroha does the same to umi eternally? Very interesting

It really hurt me seeing Shiroha throw the lantern on the floor in class, I can’t imagine how it must feel to lose both your parents so suddenly at such a young age. The granddad is remarkably strong as well for not breaking down

It’s kinda funny how all of these problems could’ve been avoided if any of the family would’ve just written instructions on how to use their ability properly instead of hiding from it. It runs in the family might as well embrace and use it safely lol. I expect this to break me by the end tho.

This one hit hard.
It's sad to see a child having to grow up without their parents.
Shiroha's mother knew what was going on but she couldn't stop it and now it's Umi's turn.
Hopefully they will find a remedy so it won't happen again.

Such a sad episode, it's heartbreaking to see what Shiroha goes through with not having parents.

You are not getting any more of my tears, Key. After Kanon, I pretty much knew what to suspect from the start! But you are certainly trying hard.

All the problems of the Nanasa family would have been solved if at least someone had thought of not wasting time on various nonsense, but writing instructions for their ability, explaining everything properly to future generations.

The conclusion Shiroha drew with the lanterns was heartbreaking, man.

And while Nanami might not have all her memories back yet, I gotta imagine how awkward it must be to be antagonized by the kid forms of your mom's friends.

@LordCrueltyV It's more of "Don't fixated in the past" kind of word, young Shiroha can't move on about her parents yet and that's would lead to the awaken of her mental time loop power.

Another well made episode. The feels of the final arc is here, the emotional attachment towards Nanami and Shiroha is here too. Really hope they'll make a good adaptation to the final.

Opening now features the gang as children as well as a younger Kyouko.

This episode is loaded with anime-original goodies for everyone to enjoy for the first time. Granny Katou doesn't have any scenes with Umi or anyone for that matter as far as I remember. Nanami's flood of memories also occurs in the diner shortly after they complete the fried rice but it's done pretty well here. She now remembers her mission to help her mom.

Shiroha is getting some ideas and I'm not sure I like them...Next episode is going to be a doozy.

Her eye colour is also a dead giveaway. It's never explained how she ended up like that but judging from the various story arcs it's likely Nanami is similar to Kamome - a bunch of memory butterflies bundled together under a coat and nice hat pretending to be an adult to try get into the movies. If they can exist thousands of miles away from the real person they can exist across long distances in time as well.

Someone discovered some power. No idea what that means, but here we go again with a certain festival with lanterns in the waves, right?

What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway).

And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea).

This episode was filled with nothing but sadness. =(

The more we learn about Shiroha and her family lineage, the more depressing it gets. I do respect Kobato for doing what he can to protect Shiroha, but it was only a matter of time before Shiroha started to question more about where her mother went. The scene in the classroom with the lanterns only adds to that overall sadness for Shiroha.

As for Nanami, she now remembers that she is Umi and does remember her main mission of helping her mother. I can't put a fault on her efforts so far, although she is struggling to get to the bottom of this issue. With two episodes left, I do see something happening that'll progress this arc a lot.

All I can hope for is a happy ending, but not before dealing with more drama and sadness.

She is real but instead she's on a coma in finland, the Kamome in the Island is a bunch of her memories manifested in a body imbued by the butterflies to help her dream come true.

So this explains why the series started with Kamome, Tsumugi and Ao arcs first before going to the main arcs, Shiroha, Alka and Pocket.

The first half give us explanations of how the Rainbow Butterflies works and how they could impact in the main story and the second half are the main story itself, focusing in Umi and Shiroha but without explanations of the butterflies.

Genius.

Haven’t been very into this Nanami arc so far, it just feels weird that we’re all the sudden back in time and Hairi is replaced as MC with Umi, but she has a new name and personality, it’s just not as satisfying as I thought it would be. Of course we still have episodes left, the time for it feel like all the dots are connected and whatnot can still happen, but I would like just a bit more before we get there.

And yeah I know we’re getting this backstory on Shiroha and her family, that’s cool and all, but I’m not that into it sadly, mainly because of how they keep beating around the bush regarding what happened to Shiroha’s mom, like yeah now we know it’s something to do with the price of the power the Naruse family has, but poor Shiroha is just confused because no one will tell her exactly what it is and I can’t blame her, I’d be mad too if my parents just disappeared and no one will tell me why, it’s just kinda annoying imo. Well at least Nanami has her memories as Umi now, not that it changed much because she was already helping Shiroha anyway, but let’s see where it goes from here with these new developments, I feel bad that this post is mostly me complaining but I am still interested in how this ends.

9:20 she regained her memories 🫢

What did Shiroha realize there at the end? 🤔

Was that Kamome’s grandma with the suitcase? 😅

I'm not sure if I understand what this "power" is but it sounds more like a curse since it seems to kill off the people that inherit it. Also, now it's 100% confirmed that Nanami is Umi in the future which I suspected in the previous episode but was not 100% sure and on that note it must be kind of awkward for Nanami to be ganged up by kids that are her mother's age lol. Anyways, I hope that Nanami and Shiroha get to the bottom of this "power" so that they can prepare for it and have this series end on a happy ending...

There's a little thing parallel to the story that has been catching my attention since the last episode: Why has NanUmi been using "boku" instead of "atashi" when referring to herself? 🤔

I hope we'll get more answers about the butterfly power next ep because I still wonder what genuinely happened to Shiroha's mother, anyway that's even worse for Shiroha and it hurts seeing her mentally destroyed by the loss of her parents... and she doesn't realize her own daughter from the future is currently trying to help her

Sheesh, they were able to recreate the recipe. Shiroha's family really got it rough, I probably said this more than twice already lol. The friend gang got Shiroha's back in the past as well sheesh. Shiroha and Nanami/Umi got real love for their parents, stuffs gotta happen though. Surely they'll be able to experience a happy summer. Seems like Shiroha is pondering at the end, wonder how the last two episodes are gonna go.

Never ending plan to watch list...

First time we've ever seen Kato, and the little build up before hand with her behind the umbrella was executed perfectly.

The power they're referring to is the one Shiroha and Umi have been using this whole time btw, you'll understand in the next episodes that telling Shiroha where her mother is would start the whole descent into her eventual death, but even without being told she ends up figuring it out in the timelines we've experienced.
