Axel's wing necklace just so happening to trigger the assassin's VERY SPECIFIC wing-related PTSD is so random but also kinda funny in a way, if he really has no connection whatsoever to that assassin's school.

Hope they crack the secret to hapna and those government secrets soon before it's too late, those government hit squads are getting pretty damn annoying, like they're willing to let the world die before they can find Skinner because he's too close to these secrets.

Incredible episode man idk where to start what the fuck did I just watch!!? Is Watanabe going nihilistic and gonna kill off everyone, or at least most of our cast? Maybe we didn’t need more eps after all if everyone’s gonna die ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Phantom Killer vs Axel went hard as expected. Chad Stahelski you are fucking insane man. I love how he incorporates the environment and characters’ resourcefulness into his fights. The way Axel and Phantom Killer use everything at their disposal to get an advantage is dope. Just who is Axel tho? How’s he pushing a guy this far who took out an entire special forces squad solo like this?!

4D chess from Hersch to predict she’d be detained by INSCOM and put Abel in charge. The more this goes on, the more I’m convinced the US government are actually the bad guys just like IRL. Illegal inhumane prison experiments, releasing a toxic chemical in a crowded airport, hiring an assassin who had to have killed at LEAST 100 people on that freeway with those explosions and took out an entire Special Forces team.. yea Schneider is more of a villain than Skinner. What’re they hiding?

Doug sacrificing himself to give Eleina time to escape and taking out the government official’s car is some real shit man, I really hope he’s ok. Speaking of Eleina, she really should’ve told Doug about the fever. It’s detrimental to the team if you’re not 100 percent.

The character animation in this show is so good. Just the fluidity with which Eleina clothes and her hair moved as she’s running after popcorn and her facial expressions showing how she’s affected by the fever.. incredible detail

2nd half of Axel vs Phantom Killer was insane too, but wtf that’s not how it’s supposed to end??? No way Axel’s actually gonna die right? Watanabe don’t do this to me ๐Ÿ˜ญ we ain’t even got bro backstory yet, and what about that wing necklace made Phantom Killer freak out? Is axel related to the assassin cult that indoctrinated Phantom killer??

It felt like a very nihilistic episode generally tho. Between Doug’s condition, Eleina’s illness, the ending of the Axel fight, Hersch being detained.. it feels like everything that can go wrong did go wrong. They say it’s darkest before the dawn, so HOPEFULLY we get a good ending here but it seems like a tall ask to wrap everything up so soon.

Suryu's hunt for Axel all over the city was exciting. I thought Axel had this dangerous situation under control, but then he ended up with a spear in his gut. Ouch.

Three of Lazarus's members ended this episode unconscious. It's not the highest moment for the team. Still, the search for Skinner is only over when it's over. There's still hope for them to pull through.

@MUIGaryuu +1 to that. Also somehow Axel had that very specific wing chain which triggered the very specific PTSD of the assassin... sure buddy.

And btw why is the assassin not shooting him at so many points and just pointing the gun at him... just shoot himmm shooooooot brother ... one bullet please

Hm, it was as I feared. With only so much runtime left, they have to rush and juggle multiple things at once.

The fight was underwhelming. I think it got cut down from the original vision. The way Axel jumps off the overpass and randomly lands on a truck seems like a hasty edit. There was probably originally supposed to be more action in between that would make it make more sense—like some parkour moves or at least a glance down below or something. And the assassin seemingly loses his gun after that, which was never explained. Also, they didn’t even properly sync the background music. There’s an obvious discontinuity between when Axel first lands on the truck and when it cuts to another angle of him on the truck. I think things were awkwardly cut here too. My guess is they were supposed to show the assassin taking a similar path to Axel’s to get down there with him. It’s not all negative—the fight had pretty good choreography, but only in short bursts interspersed between the other stuff the show is juggling. It should’ve been an extended, uninterrupted sequence like what everyone was expecting and, honestly, what would’ve made the most sense for the show.

Welp, the hope is that we’ll get our uninterrupted sakuga sometime in the last two episodes, but there’s still so much plot to juggle that I have serious doubt.

This is still the show I look forward to the most each week, but yeah, I’m not betting on it being able to fully deliver.

What can I say and what can I leave out? I’ll just settle with one word: *Wow!*

The anime has entered the phase of sacrifices and risks! And honestly… wow!

Only two episodes left and I’m *really* excited for them! Our beloved protagonist, Axel, suffered a serious injury, and Doug also took a huge risk—and we still don’t know what happened to him.

Elena took a chance and traveled while sick, and she also showed real courage and strength. I ended up liking her even more after this episode! We also don’t know what happened to her yet.

As for the betrayals that were revealed in this episode—they were expected. But for *Hersch* to risk her life?! That was totally unexpected.

Ohh, I don’t know, I want to write more but what can I say? The animation was beautiful, the visuals were smooth, and the thing that impressed me most—this frame. It felt like it could be used as a desktop wallpaper!

As for Axel and Christine’s relationship… I’ll share some screenshots of them together.

I was looking into what Hundun is. Even though Axel and the Assassin do not share a past together, there is a bound between them if Axel is really wearing a necklace with that figure’s wing.

“In the Daoist text Zhuangzi, Shu and Hu, emperors of the South and North Seas respectively, bored holes into Hundun's face because they wanted to repay his generosity. Hundun, the emperor of the central region, lacked the seven orifices (eyes, ears, nostrils, and mouth) that other humans possessed. Shu and Hu, seeing this as a deficiency, decided to create these openings for him, one per day, but on the seventh day, Hundun died.”

Let’s hope in the next chapter all this makes any sense.

Damn, what an episode! โค๏ธ‍๐Ÿ”ฅโค๏ธ‍๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ’ฏ
The Phantom Assassin vs Axel was mind-blowing.

Axel was really dancing with the devil with no fear at all and the assassin dude doesn't care about casualties and goes on bombing every body in sight ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Axel's necklace and it's symbol Hundun has some history with the assassin it seems but Axel doesn't seem to know anything about it.
Please don't kill Axel..let him be alive ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ™

From what I have seen so far, I guess that the INSCOM wanted to get rid of all the humans of the world and found a way to achieve that through Hapna. Their reason might be 'cause of dwindling resources and the World marching towards destruction due to climate change and such. So they concocted their plan using Skinner and putting the blame on him while Skinner might just wanted to save everyone and the INSCOM still have him under their custody..I guess.
They wanted Axel dead 'cause they don't want anyone to find a cure for Hapna through him. And the popcorn wizard might know about all this and that's the reason they might be tailing Elena and Doug to prevent them from finding out.

This is my theory..but I hope I'm wrong about Skinner and INSCOM's motives ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…

I would love for the story to take a different route.

Eleina was super cute in this episode. Doug is such a sweet guy, at times when he's not serious. Eleina was finally able to catch Popcorn. And, she herself is suffering from fever. Doug might get taken down now that he's been caught by the agency. Hersch was also captured, and it seems like the only ones who are free to work right now are Chris and Leland.

The fight between Axel and HQ was amazing, like the rest of the show. Axel being the sole survivor of the experiment, is something that can create problems for them, so they're trying to take him down, and it looks like they have taken him down, in the end. Axel is badly pierced and is losing a lot of blood. Thankfully, Chris reached there in time. The wings that Axel has carry a significant meaning behind them, and HQ is aware of that. And, looks like he was trained under some kind of facility.

The entire Lazarus is in chaos. Last couple of episodes are left in the show. Can't wait.

Exactly what I thought. He was pulling out grenades from his ass left and right. He used the wired knife only once in the whole fight against Axel. Like who tf engages a 1v1 with 50 grenades?

Other than that dope fighting sequences and nice episode.

Honestly this whole series has everything - good studio, good director, good action choreography. It should be doing WAY better if they didn't go full in on the Style Over Substance bit.

Below is a list of all the logical Flaws I noticed in this episode, that is really killing it for me. I leave it for you all to judge whether you agree with me, because some of these really took me out of the suspension of disbelief bit.

1. Doug with the sacrifice play shouldn't have worked
why didn't the other agent just shoot him instead of letting him shoot the agent's partner's car? Why didn't the other guy just stop the car instead of driving dangerously enough to go off a cliff?? And how come the gun changed?

2. Hersch going to negotiate with zero insurance and no back up plan
AT THE LEAST make sure your threat has teeth, like if you don't do this and I'm not back in 3 hours the news will be leaked to the public. Because you KNOW They're going to detain you. I expected a top research scientist to you know, be SMARTER than some army intelligence guy, come on now!

3. The lousy "pro" assassin
* Why didn't he just shoot Axel instead of doing shitty flashy grenade stuff?
* Also seriously dude you're still not over your childhood brain washing to the point you freeze during a critical part of your mission? Mental Weaksauce EPIC FAIL.
* As bad as the government paying him $30M for that mission, clearly DOGE needs to audit THOSE guys instead of Food Stamps if the Military has that much of a slush fund just lying around.

4. Axel so good at parkour, but ...
yet somehow can't dodge a spear thrown straight at him??? Jumping skill 100%, dodging skill 0%. JFC!

5. Elena the ex Russian Operative ??
You're supposed to be a highly trained agent provocateur? I was expecting you to sniper the assassin from a distance with Chekov's Rifle! But instead ... wait. What?? Did you do any target practice at all? Because it looks like you graduated from SSSSSS - you know, Super Shitty Substandard Stormtrooper Shooting School since your close range aim is as bad or worse than the Stormtroopers in The Mandalorian?? WTH!

I'm still going to finish this because I love Watanabe's work and Stahelski's action choreography but it's really hard to suspend disbelief when there are THIS MANY illogical things in one episode.

She was equipped with a high-powered rifle and had a great high ground from which to spot the enemy.
She could have shot him before Axel was fatally wounded, but she didn't.
She fired 40 bullets at him and not a single one hit him.
This is without a doubt the most stupid and childish writing in an anime I have ever seen.

new theory: the reason lazarus can't find skinner is because he doesn't exist. Skinner is a total figment of hapna induced hallucinations.

every time they talk about 'popcorn wizard' and it shows up its an assault on the senses.

the fight sequences is fine but the episode takes like 7 minutes to loop back around to that cliffhanger from episode 10

i think the dialogue really must have been massacred in translation.

the way chris ditched leland, like what could possibly go wrong if they dont have someone at the base?

I really liked the last shot. I doubt Axel will die but thats a lot of blood so who can say.

Better than most of the episodes. At least it wasn't all over the place and focused on a couple of plot lines. Still, the motivation scenes for Phantom didn't make any sense, of course. and the end of the fight was ridiculously stupid. Supposedly these two can dodge bullets and kick grenades in the air and catch knives and hang on buildings with perfect precision but somehow they can't dodge a spear or a butchers knife? So dumb. Just more let down on a sub par show from a once great creator.

Some top tier action in this one. I'm glad the assassin build up paid off. Really hope that we get to see him again and Axel can properly settle things with him before the series end. Enjoyed the collage-like flashback, it's a little reminiscent of Zankyou no Terror.

Elaina going on her own to find popcorn wizard filling in the "Weak, but skilled" trope, wondering what the point of Leland staying behind is gonna be. Probably not gonna be the end of Doug, but we'll see what he can do assuming he gets captured. Probably gonna break out and regroup with Elaina.

I liked the different animation style for phantom's flashbacks. Also wondering how he can carry so many explosive devices in that trenchcoat. I'm still convinced Axel's plot-armor will save him from that spear. Maybe somehow it will even save him from the Hapna death (the spear would saving him, not his plot-armor. Plot-armor will save him from the spear and Hapna by association though).

Doug obviously knew Elaina was not doing well, but there wasn't much choice in the end. I'm curious what Popcorn thinks and does. Leland has to have something going on next episode or they wouldn't have left him behind.

It's pretty clear that the whole Hapna thing is either nonsense or a diversion since it makes no sense for the the army to hunt Lazarus, are they willing to die to keep their secrets? At this point the secret to the whole thing is whatever they did to Axel and how is he still alive since they tested Hapna on him way before it was made public and yet he's still alive

Doug and Elena went to Pakistan. But Elena seems to be suffering from a fever. Is it because of hapna? But wouldn't that mean she took the drug pretty early on? Axel probably took it even before her. So why is he completely fine? Is Axel really immune?

Axel vs assassin fight scene was great. But it doesn't make a lot of sense. Did this guy get nerfed or something? I feel like he could've easily killed him if he wanted. He could've just taken Axel by surprise instead of facing him head-on in the traffic. And even after that, it seemed like he had a lot of opportunities. I liked the scene from episode 9 more.

Doug took that car pretty poorly. Is he gonna be alright? Elena has a huge fever. And Axel now has a spear in his belly. Heck, Axel could be the first one to die due to his condition. That'd fully contradict the ED. But it'd be cool Ig. I don't understand why Chris couldn't snipe the assassin from afar tho.

At least the story is slightly getting more interesting now. But who's the assassin? Why does he care that Axel has that necklace? Did they both go to the same assassin school or something? That'd explain Axel's mad skills.

Don’t overthink the small details, even though I really admire your sharp Eyes… I mean, why does Christine specifically have to save him? Axel literally escaped the boat long ago and just stood there waiting while the criminal recalled memories and asked questions. Wouldn’t it make more sense for Axel to simply run away, like he always does, especially when the opportunity presented itself?

As we say in Arabic, “the director wanted it this way” ุงู„ู…ุฎุฑุฌ ุนุงูˆุฒ ูƒุฏุง —meaning this event wasn't written in an illogical way, and there’s no need to apply too much reason or logic in asking why this happened and not that in the story.

What a genuinely terrible episode. Like this show started going downhill after or near the halfway point but like what am I supposed to get out of some no name assassin who just happens to get PTSD out of left field when fighting their target?

Not to mention, none of what this episode showed got us any close to finding Skinner. I can imagine these last 2 eps are gonna play out like a rush job to try and be as sensical as possible.
