THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- As a Kaito KID fan this is probably my least favorite movie yet due to how much he suffered :( On the other hand I'm also glad that we got another KID focused movie and many KID-Conan interactions. Some of them got me chortling in laughter, like the part where he slept soundlessly on the same bed as conan without a hint of wariness and he later was fixing his injuries without his Kaito KID attire but instead in his original, Kuroba Kaito look (KID trusts Conan to this degree it's heartwarming to see). TBH this one is imo better than Sunflowers of Inferno because we actually get to see things from KID's perspective instead of being kept in the dark like m19. He disguised as Shinichi (as always) from the get-go and was with the main crew for the entire ride so we know that the murderer isn't him when he got framed. It did come as a shock when the murderer was revealed. I did not see that double/triple twist at the end coming lol I like how we got more development between Sonoko and Makoto. We saw what's hidden beneath his band-aid and how bad-ass he really is. Seriously man, for certain scenes it's almost as if I were watching some fantasy shounen battle anime. Makoto is truly one terrifying beast. I'm so glad I stayed for the after credit scene cause it's hilarious lmao! I'm surprised Ran actually found out who 'Shinichi' really is the whole time and restrained him long enough for Inspector Nakamori and his crew to jump him. I do have one question though. How in the world did Conan get rid of his fake tan so quickly in the end when he changed back to his original look? It seems so surreal. |

I found out about this movie because of Hiroomi Tosaka. He is my bias in JSB3 lol guys I’m considering to dive into the world of Detective Conan but 900+ episodes is a lifetime’s worth. |

I’m glad you’re interested in DConan! If you do end up watching the series, I highly recommend using a filler guide (since a litte over 40% is filler because of the large amount of anime original episodes). Here are two I recommend using: https://www.animefillerlist.com/shows/detective-conan https://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki/Anime The second one doesn’t specifically list the fillers, but it at least marks which ones are AO. I’d also note that the movies aren’t canon, though almost all of them are great :) If you end up watching the series, I hope you enjoy it! |

Got to catch it in theaters too and this latest installment is probably one of my more favorites in the long line of movies. It was very refreshing to have Conan in a more fish out of water situation. Also the inversion of the dynamic that Kaito and Conan usually share (as rivals) was great and having the two collaborate was cool to watch on screen. Also the character development between Sonoko and Makoto was great. I'm happy those two got to share some touching moments and have their characters become more than just B-list secondary characters. I know that the Conan movies have been getting more action-filmy as of the last several films, this one felt like it could have been straight out of a Die Hard film. That said, I definitely enjoyed the action and I feel like the animation quality was noticeably better in this movie than in some of the others. However, there's a lot of English in this film and I wish that the production staff brought on more fluent English speakers to mask some of the very poor pronunciation in the film. All in all, fun and very enjoyable. Probably would put it in my top 5. Also, Sonoko without the headband and bangs is best Sonoko. The headband almost never comes off her head. |

As a singaporean that manage to watch this movie yesterday, i really like how they portrayed Marina Bay Sands. Also that Merlion spewing blood out of its mouth is really brutal. xD Love the Kaito/Shinichi (conan) moments too. |

This year's instalment breaks new ground by being the first movie to be set outside of Japan. In classic Detective Conan movie fashion, it is an action-packed movie filled with explosions and even shooting (though it is rather jarring to see all that happening in Singapore -.-"). Nonetheless, the visuals are very stunning and captures Singapore pretty well (the scenery, that is). The case for this movie is once again fairly straightforward, with Kaito Kid being dragged unwillingly into a conspiracy featuring murders (who then proceeded to drag Conan himself into it as well). What is interesting is that it featured an obvious villain, but ends up being superseded by the true mastermind, which is somewhat reminiscent of Movie 14. Of course, what makes this movie great is not the case itself per se, or even the visuals, but rather the interactions between the main characters. the dynamics between Conan, Kid (who inevitably disguised himself as Shinichi) and Ran are hilariously on point. The interaction between Sonoko and Makoto is also well done (the latter making a proper debut into a DC movie). Although this is not a romance-oriented movie, it does reaffirms several key relationships of this series. All in all, it is a very fun movie to watch, especially if one is living in Singapore. |

Caught this in the cinema with a friend that follows detective Conan. The case itself wasn't particularly special or out of what I expect of a mystery case. However I have to say, I'm fairly captured by the cast of characters in the show. Very impressed with the attention they took to capture the Singapore skyline very accurately as well. It was also strangely satisfying to watch it burn down. |

I was wondering the same thing!! What happened how did he suddenly gain a tan and more weirdly lose it. Wonder how they couldn't tell it was Conan just because he had different skin color and no glasses. I would say the series became more comedic these days. |

I was very happy that most of the members who went to Singapore were useful. A lawyer, who sponsored Japan's Strong Karate kid to participate in Singapore's Karate Tournament with winner's belt that has the ruby (Blue Sapphire), got killed after meeting a guy who was voiced by Ikuraburou Yamazaki. Also Kid's warning letter left there. KajiKaji's character, who was student of Ikusaburou's character, accompanies Mouri team who came from Japan to see Makoto's competition. Since original sponsor died, the rich girl became the sponsor. Conan was brought because Kid wanted to find out the mystery to the letter, who doesn't have memory of sending it. Kid also helped Conan, who cannot become Shinichi to enter Singapore. They have to cooperate temporary in solving the case. Ikusaburou's character saw Makoto very strong and used his knowledge to get him to give up by himself. Second victim in the middle of the competition when assistant was killed because she was meeting Mouri the night before. Kid, again, was set as a criminal. Conan still has action when Kid temporary returned his equipments for few times. Conan explained that his name that used in Singapore is similar name to when he named himself to Ran (Japanese part that I cannot remember right now is old name to Edogawa, English part is also a part of Conan's name). Yakuza and young ship owner (who is delinquent) were also used by criminal (s). Ikusaburou's character decided to use ship to destroy Singapore using the ship to make new Singapore because his plan of with his vision of the city was rejected. He also killed KajiKaji's character's father (scientist related to ocean) for the sapphire (part of the plan). KajiKaji's character investigated why he was sentenced to death by being criminal's student. Ikusaburou and KajiKaji characters both learned criminal science, but becoming criminals themselves. Even though Singapore's strongest karate person, who is a guard to Ikusaburou's character, didn't get to fight during the competition because of Ikusaburou's character, he was able to at the end when Conan and Kid trying to stop the ship. Everyone fought, even Ran and her father. Makoto, carrying the rich girl who got hurt from Ikusaburou's character's plan using Yakuza (order by KajiKaji's character), also fought well. After the ED, it was realized that Ran knows he was not Shinichi and already got police to get Kid. Next Year's movie is Zero again? |

So Ran knew Shinichi was Kaito Kid all along but she still held his hand and flirted with him anyway, and she didn't bother telling anyone when he was a murder suspect? Yeah, that makes sense. That sleeping Kogoro scene though was the best part of this movie, I don't remember the last time a scene from this franchise made me laugh unironically. |

Edogawa Conan, tantei. Can't get tired of hearing that. 8/10 Love how the fight scenes were executed and wow Makoto can really fight. Also the father & daughter tandem. It always amazes me when Mouri throws someone and Ran kicking or punching someone else's face. And lastly, splendid ending! Hilarious! |

It's a 7 from me. Very beautiful visuals and cinematics like damn, I wanna visit Singapore now! The mystery is not very good overall but I enjoyed the thrill of things. Having Kaito and Conan collab is always fun. I just wanna mention... This movie kinda made me scratch my head a lot. The lack of communication between Conan, Ran, Kaito, Sonoko, Makoto... Like so many things could have been prevented if they communicated lol. Then the guy calls Sonoko and tells her to stay in the hotel when the ship was about to crash lol Movie 24 is gonna be so good!!! |

One of the most entertaining Conan movies, especially from the recent ones. I digged the fight scenes and visuals like crazy. Not just as a Makoto fanboy, even Ran and Kogoro got some action at the end. But seriously, Makoto can't be human. Those moves, tho. And I thought that one time where he crushed the pillar was crazy. And Sonoko with her bangs down looks hella cute. |

Overall I absolutely loved this movie. Everything was great--it was highly entertaining, engaging, and the mystery kept me on the edge of my seat. Loved that Makoto got a chance to shine and Kid got to be as awesome as normal. I actually only had one real issue though. Did anyone else find the scene where Kaito was knocked out and left to drown kind of...underwhelming? They made such a big deal out of it in the trailers, and I was genuinely scared for him when I first saw it, but the fact that he escaped within, like, 15 seconds, made me feel kinda underwhelmed afterwards... |

I really wanted to like this movie, but I should have known it wouldn't live up to the hype. I guess i was expecting more teamwork and banter between Kid and Conan but it almost seemed like they were too hesitant to do so now that Shinichi and Ran are dating. Despite actually working together from the start, it wasn't as awesome as movie 10 or 14. Another thing is that Kid seems a bit too obvious (very little poker face, not disguising himself as a cop when they're chasing after him) and impatient. Because of that, a lot of the dramatic scenes happen just so they can put it in the trailer. It doesn't feel like a Kid movie, just a movie with Kid in it. And even that was done better in 10. Unfortunately, this was a Makoto/Sonoko movie and I don't really understand the appeal of Makoto. He's boring with his OPness basically his only trait beyond "gullible". So a lot of this movie was uninteresting outside the fight scenes - too many things fighting for time. Like the Mouris. Because, of course Ran needs to be rescued by Shinichi. Why Ran flirted with Kid knowing it was him is odd... until I remembered the trailer. Another pointless addition made for the trailer. Heck, I'm starting to think Kid is only IN this movie to make a dramatic trailer and sell the movie. I wish there was more bantering and teamwork between Kid and Conan (instead of Conan being irritated by Kid every other moment which got annoying fast) with the Makoto/Sonoko taking up the background. Can we get ONE (Kid) movie where Shinichi doesn't scream Ran's name and save her from something she could save herself from? It's so overdone. Tanned Conan was cute, tho. And the backdrop of Singapore was amazing; if there one thing the DC movies do well it's that. Plus the English! They did an awesome job with choosing VAs for their English roles; very few had a noticeable or thick accent. The only problem I saw was the flow; felt a bit stiff when they were talking. If they could improve on that, the DC movies would be some of the best incorporating English and Japanese together. As for the mystery... it's meh. Those coming in for the mystery will be quite disappointed with this movie. It's very much action and romance first with a bit of mystery to keep it Detective Conan. The villain was obvious and even the twist was a bit obvious - how many characters who have squinty eyes are actual good guys? |

The plot was okay, the execution... not really. The action was way too over the top for me but I still liked how dynamic it was. Someone finally managed to outwit Kid and the police finally decided to use their damn guns. Other than that, I'm glad Haibara and the other kids weren't there and it's nice to see Kid again. I loved the ed, I'm amazed they portrayed Singapore with such accuracy (I admit I had no idea it actually looks like that). Sonoko looks way better with her hair down. |

the appearing disappearing tan on Conan made me go 'huh!?!' too. but if i recall most 'native' Singaporeans have darker skin-tones right? so Kid applying some 'insta-tan cream' all over Conan sometime, somewhere... somehow does sound a bit... icky... (i bet the fujoshi in the Conan fandom probably went into fangirl squealing fits at THAT idea) hah! :D but then... if you check Conan out inside the suitcase when the 'crew' gets back to Japan you really can NOT tell Conan is still tan or not... it isn't till Conan is behind Prof. A changing clothes... did you notice Ai ogling Conan changing for a few seconds there? ;9 ... that you see Conan's right upper arm, shoulder, and neck are his normal skin-tone. i'm curious though, why is Discotek listed as the licensor here on MAL? if you read the English credits to the English dub it CLEARLY does NOT mention Discotek once! TMS Entertainment USA and BangZoom! Entertainment are the only producers listed in the English credits. can we get this fixed? or am i wrong? also, Kid is NOT credited in the English dub credits! hahahah! that's funny! wait... hold on... i'm looking through the English credits again. Shuichi Akai is credited... Keith Silverstein... huh? i just watched the movie and i don't remember Shuu Akai in it! :o |

AM I the only one who disliked the movie and found it completely ridiculous, over the top, weird (and not even in a good way)? I have to admit that I liked the setting they choose for this and the background visuals are very pretty (although the character animation lacks the more most of the time). But the writing was awful imo. And I love Detective Conan and most of the movies. I really thought the 15th movie was the worst among them but it's more like an extended episode while this movie is... I don't have any words for it so I need to repeat myself: poorly written. I usually love all the movies with Kaito Kid (even though unpopular opinion I think he can be annoying at times). Plus you'd think it's good since the Detective Boys only appear briefly in the movie but it was so strange watching it. I would have wished for a better explanation as to why Kid brought Conan along to Singapore and how it happened. And I know Conan picking Arthur as a name was supposed to be funny and fitting the series but for someone with his abilities and cleverness you'd think he could come up with a less obvious name. Plus it makes all the other characters look stupid. Don't let me get started on Ran KNOWING all along "Shinichi" was Kaito Kid. There was no hint for that and it seemed more like the writers simply decided that as they went along. And can we talk about this Lowe-guy? His design freaked me out to be honest. And even the case was just meh. But I gotta admit I really liked the scenes with Makoto and Sonoko. Yes, it was over the top too and they are not my favorite characters but I really liked they finally received some more attention. I simply would have wished for the movie to live up to its potential. My favorite scene was when Conan called Ai and I loved the little detail of her phone with the chibi key-chain of the soccer player she likes so much (forgot his name... Sorry). Other than that Agasa's quiz was almost the best part of it :D. Due to the writing I could not take this movie seriously so I laughed at scenes that were not supposed to be funny. This might be the only DC movie Im never going to re-watch and it frustrates me so much. |
