Looks like we got to see some of Yuno and Asta's childhoo this episode. Finally new material (not from the OVA). I think the show is trying to flesh out both characters more to get the viewers to understand them more. But wow, Asta is really unbearable to watch... Pretty sure we'll get to a lot more present timeline storytelling soon. |

| Asta's shouting toned down a little and actually spoke normally for once. Flashback was pretty good and OP + ED is amazing. Yami in OP looked mad sexy <3 can't wait for him to appear next week. |
| So far the only good thing has been the animation. Its only the second episode and the first two and half minutes are a repeat of the last scene from ep1, WHY? Asta was super annoying as a kid as well, so he has not changed much. |
| Episode was better then the first one. The animation is good and the Flashbacks were pretty ok. I hope Noelle's voice actor and character will be good when she debuts... |

| Hm so basically nothing happened? I mean we got that backstory but I don't think that full on flashback was really needed you could already understand what happened from those short glimpses we got in the recap at the beginning and in the last episode... but yeah now we got their relationship established let's see where it goes from here. |

| This episode is kinda... slow, what I meant is just 15 minutes full of flashbacks, three minutes of true plot, and only one minute of battle. lol. *3.6 - 4/5 2nd episode is still better than 1st episode. That's all (I'm too lazy!) |

| That was a much better episode than the previous one. A bit of world building, fleshing out the main characters and to top it off with some really sweet action towards the end. I'm really liking Yuno so far and it'll take a while until I warm up to Asta. Honestly the hate for this series seems very unreasonable. There's nothing groundbreaking or unique sure but that's not a good reason for all the hate. I also went back and looked at manga and most of the episode was anime original. The flashback was just a few pages and unlike this episode, the manga failed to contextualize the relationship between Asta and Yuno so props for the director. eXtacy67 said: So far the only good thing has been the animation. | I'm just sitting here wondering how fast Asta had to have been to be able to catch up to Yuno in time to stop the dude from stealing his necklace. That was happening while Asta was sitting at the dinner table then all of a sudden he showed up to intervene. We got a flashback to show the origins of their rivalry, and Asta's sudden power-up helped him defeat the enemy. "Not giving up is my magic." Lol the cringe, sounds like something straight outta Fairy Tail. Thankfully Asta's voice was more tolerable in this episode. The only time he yelled was during his attack but that's pretty common shounen stuff so I won't complain about that. When he speaks normally, I actually don't want to shove scissors in my ears. We need more of that kind of voice acting, and waaaaaaaaaaaay less of what we got in episode 1. |

| Pretty good episode. Animation seems to be keeping up. Though I kinda expected them to adapt more than just the flashback and the end of the fight this episode. As someone pointed out above, it looks like they extended the flashback to fit the whole episode. Asta's got the power to nullify magic with his sword. Final scene with the fist bump was really nice I like the ED more than OP. |

| It was just a more extended version of the ending of the OVA, but it was nice. Asta's voice is fine when he is not screaming and the part when he defeats whatshisface was very well made. The flashback was okay, at least it showed Yuno is nicer of what he seemed at first. Better than the first episode. |

| I thought that it was a really nice episode. The backstory getting more screen time here than it did in the OVA helps to give it a little more impact. |
| smh this is the thing that turned me off from Naruto. Flashbacks that last half of episodes. This is hopefully a one time thing. |
| The backstory is nice. It drags on a bit, yes, but it explains well enough Yuno's and Asta's motivations. However, people complaining about the fight being short feels kinda BS for me, in the manga it ends in one strike like this and has literally three pages of hits thrown between Asta and Revchi. For now, it stays at a 6.5 for me. Let's see in the next episodes if it goes up or down. |

| Well, I actually enjoyed this week's episode of black clover. Yes, it's an almost full flashback episode but I think it was necessary, and better now than after episode 20 or 30. Plus, we didn't had to hear Asta's annoying voice for the entire episode. |

| Hey, I did like this. Probably because I've not seen Fairy Tail, Naruto, One Piece, or any of that stuff. So it feels enjoyable. But Asta as a kid... Oh my god. They actually managed to find a voice that's even more annoying than Asta as young adult. That... That's damn impressive. Holy shit. But yeah, I like the rivalry between Asta and Yuno. But I do understand why shounen fans are giving this anime a hard time from having seen it all before. The ambition to become wizard (or Emperor Magus, whatever) king is pretty god damn unoriginal. Still I fully intend to continue. I've hardly even considered starting a full-length never-ending shounen anime, but maybe this presumably short one will keep me hooked on the story it has to offer throughout. And maybe, just maybe, Asta's voice will stop being so god damn irritating to me. |

| Pretty decent second episode. Much less annoying screaming than the first, so that's a plus. Plot didn't really advance much, but I liked the back story they gave us. Has potential to be a fairly enjoyable shounen. |

Also, if Asta's voice actor performance dipped and not improve, they can still change it for the next cour. |

| Some part of the flashbacks were anime original, but it was nice. Liked the OP & ED, and i'm glad the animation is still looking good! "Not giving up is my magic!" i think that was a cool words. At least he didn't say "My friends are the ones who gave me magic!" lol |

| Are people giving low ratings for this anime because it is really generic and bland or is it because they're edgy and popular anime is bad? I'm pretty curious. I haven't seen this episode yet but the first episode seemed pretty good. It isn't genre defining but it doesn't seem to be a bad anime inside it's genre. Too early to tell though. |
