| My favorite backstory before i saw robins! Still love it still pretty sad, but all 8ish episodes of it in a 30 minute show :( Sorta show's how much they can drag things out. Kind of disheartening but ill keep watchin. But to put it into context, its been over 6 years since they aired this episode so it would make sense to get the new fans acquainted with the show. Still love nami-swaaaan~~!! Her sister should've joined the crew too :( |

| Arguably the saddest past when looked in its entirety, and the walk to Arlong Park is still one of the most epic One Piece scene of all time. |

I really noticed the difference of one piece's drawing through the years.. i didn't expect it to be so different with the present episode.. nonetheless one piece is still the best! :) I liked nami's story.. i wish we see more fishmen.. a liked the uniqueness of their species! |

| This was probably the best of these recap episodes, and for the sole reason that Nami's past is really that powerful, so I could watch it hundreds of times and still get completely sucked into it. As an episode, it's completely lacking merit though. Redundant and, in my opinion, it lacked some scenes to reinforce the emotional strength of that backstory. But I still liked watching it. |

| This backstory's interesting because of how it echoes what's happening right now. Both Nami and Robin pushed away their friends and tried to shoulder their fate by themselves. They've both tried to send the Straw Hats off and acted cruelly towards them. And in both cases Luffy and the others recognized them as a good person and showed them that they could trust them by staying by their side but not overstepping their boundaries until they wanted them to. "... Luffy help me" is akin to Robin's "I want to.. live!", it's the sign that they can give it their all to help their nakama now! Nami and Robin can both relate in the way they grew up and it's something I've noticed for a while. The flashback illuminates that and shows that Nami is both grateful that she had Luffy by her side in her lowest moment and she's glad Robin does too, but more than that, it's now her time to help her friends or to get cute, now it's her time to take a walk to Arlong park for her nakama! It's really quite awesome. This flashback also reminded me of how awesome Arlong arc is!!! Gen, Johnny and Yosaku and Nojiko and Arlong and the fishmen like Hachi and the island's situation itself made for incredible supporting characters, villains, and an awesome world itself. It's pacing was tight as we all know, however, one thing that shocked me was how I forgot about the nose snapping scene! It's so brutal to have Arlong chomp on Luffy like he did as Luffy grapples with his nose. The noises made me want to throw up they were so gross. And Luffy snaps his nose realizing what he has to do to win. That leading to him destroying the entire survey room and building and coming after the immaculate Karate Fish and Big Lips fights(Hachi fight was cool too for characterization of Zoro), it's all a reminder of how Arlong arc is still one of One Piece's best and one of my favorite shounen arcs. I would have to rewatch it to really see if Alabasta or Water 7 have passed it, even if in the moment it feels like they're even or better. One side note that's quite hilarious is how looking back at this battle we can see how unprepared Arlong was. The fishmen wanted to rule the world essentially and they were starting with East Blue. Yet even early in the series, the Straw Hats were able to win. Now, think of all the amazingly strong people we've met. Crocodile, the other warlords like Mihawk, Eneru, Smoker, Ace, all of CP9 other than Spandam, Aokiji. We've realized just how big and strong the world is and Arlong was in baby territory not even venturing into the deeper scarier parts of the seas like the Grand Line where I think he wouldn't have had a chance. It's interesting that such a strong villainous figure in the series can be so small in retrospect. We had just as little of a perspective of the world as Arlong did back then! |
| Nami stabbing her arm off to remove her Arlong tattoo was as shocking as ever and the part where Luffy stopped her and gave her his hat made me tear up once again but the emotional impact of some key scenes were decreased because of some scenes of the past weren't added. Nami along with Sanji's backstories made me bawl the most so it's kind of a shame if this would be the first look some people new to the series would have at the Straw Hat Crew's pasts. | Seeing Nami's backstory again makes want to rewatch the whole Arlong arc. Luffy is such a badass and I love how strongly he feels about protecting his friends. Also, back to Enies Lobby, I love how Ussop mimics the noise luffy makes when he grins, and then asks “what’s the meaning of that smile?” before Luffy grabs them all and jumps off the roof. |

| I think the Luffy giving Nami the hat was always my favorite moment in the show till the recent one of Robin I want to live. Definitely my two favorite. Also the housewives skit at the end was amazing. One the funnier things I’ve seen. The English dub with the accents were perfect lol |
| I’ve said this and I’ll say it again: Nami really can relate to Nico Robin’s past. I mean her past literally parallels hers when she was working to get all that money to pay back Arlong, both of them tried to shoulder their pain, both of them tried to shoo the Straw Hats away and have both had Luffy help them in their darkest hour. I mean there are so many similarities to Robin’s backstory and Nami’s I mean the list goes on and on here. Just seeing these flashback scenes just shows how good the Arlong Park arc was, such a stellar arc, lots of character development, the fights at the end especially with Luffy and Arlong himself was incredible and above all else, it was the arc that got me hooked, line and sinker into this anime. Especially with the moment of Luffy coming to Nami’s side, she’s at her lowest point, she’s practically begging Luffy to go but he’s standing his ground and then she utters the immortal line of: “Luffy…help me.” Luffy gives her his trademark Straw Hat shouts: “YES I WILL!” to the heavens, walks towards Zorro, Usopp and Sanji who are already there at the scene waiting for Luffy to give the command to go to Arlong Park, he does so, all three of them stand up and they all start walking towards Arlong Park. Absolutely iconic scene from that arc altogether. But not just that we had iconic characters of Genzo, Johnny, Yosaku, hell even Nojiko,Nami's younger sister as well, not to be outdone by Hachi who was not only funny but had his iconic fight with Zorro in that arc. Undeniably one of my favourite arcs of One Piece and that’s putting alongside Alabasta and Water 7 right now for me. In hindsight it makes it weirdly funny that Arlong and the Fishmen had this ambition to rule the whole world yet they hadn’t thought about going anywhere near the Grand Line at all. Think about it, we had more stronger foes since then, Crocodile, Eneru, Smoker, pretty much everyone in CP9 except Spandam, as well as Aokiji. In retrospect it just makes Arlong look unprepared because if he and his men EVER went near the Grand Line they would lose to these guys. And most of these people in hindsight would’ve also been Devil Fruit users and that’s also including Ace in the equation and he happens to be Luffy’s brother who serves under Whitebeard. WHITEBEARD one of the strongest pirates in the Grand Line and Arlong was meant to conquer the world with those people in mind? Just crazy ya know. Loved the short where the Straw Hats were basically middle aged women with very Brooklyn accents. XD Regardless whether the episode is a recap or not, I really enjoy these short segments they are just fun to watch overall. Next up to bat in terms of flashback episodes will be Sanji and Chopper and then the one after this will be the last episode in terms of the recap episode for this arc. |
