So many weak female characters. I am supposed to feel any kind of connection for a group of girls whose whole existence is about a guy (usually Hikari)? I'm not asking for a perfect score on the Bechdel test but give me something, anything more that defines these people other than a guy. The same can almost be said about the male characters but at least somone like Hikari has a goal for something other than Manaka. Too bad the same can't be said for the girls.

Chiisaki you're FIVE years older than him... Just get with Tsumugu would you? Also, way too many anime have used the "time started moving again" line. It feels like every romance/drama anime uses that same line at some point lol (ex. Anohana, Kanon, Shigatsu) and it's getting really old and eye-roll inducing.

This straight line of one-sided love is so complicated as I thought it would be .
"But that just means you need to fulfill what you lost with new things."
Chisaki did grown to be an adult-like figure , but she remains the same ~ .
I wonder if there is a good ending at the story ~ . Miuna ~ .

Chisaki focused episode, I liked seeing she still felt about Hikari, she really liked him since a long time before.

Tsumugu already showed signs before, but now we can clearly see that he loves Chisaki. With Kaname around feeling the same, this will be interesting to see how it develops.

The scene with Chisaki trying to wear her old uniform was so funny, I think it's not for her size anymore, shame because she sure as hell still looks great with it!

Tsumugu's grandpa told Chisaki about another part of the story that is way less known, and also definitely sad, the sea god must feel lonely there tbh...

I like the scene where Chisaki tries to wear her sailor dress. It's funny and at the same time you wanted to cheer her up. It's OK, Chisaki. You've just grown as an adult. You can still wear a sailor outfit just like Popeye the Sailor. Sailor outfits originate from European Naval uniforms. Just get a larger sailor dress.

Hikari is one, boring, annoying, childish, girls like it so ridiculous is a manga character because otherwise it would be a friendless recluse. Triggered the worst MC of all animes.
I was fose TSUMUGU he struck it into the foot in ass Chisaki.
Chiasaki is an eternal child in love with an annoying guy who is not even there for her.
Chiasaki so dara value Tsumugu when he loses, he does everything for her and she's not worth it, she always finds a way to hurt Tsumugo.
No iffy Tsumugu is the improved character of this series he should not be the Mc Hikari the Hiritante, lamentavelo so in manga into a ridiculous guy like Hikari having all girl surrounding him.

True. Chisaki and Tsumugu are my favourite character of this anime because first Chisaki's feelings are human . Sorry all Manaka lovers but I find Manaka kinda annoying.

This episode is trying to throw a curve ball on us. We already know that manaka likes hikari before the Ofunehiki. I also view the relatioship between chisaki and hikari same as the relationship between manaka and tsumugu which tsumugu is the sun of manaka.

I think that the Sea God knows manaka likes hikari. For this, the sea god takes manaka ena and transfer it to miuna so that manaka and hikari can't be together.

Why people take Sea God story so literal?
First of all, if Sea God story was true,
people from Sea don't go to "sleep",
because whole "Ofunehiki" thing was just to stop hibernation.

Also Manaka took Akari's place,
and this don't help to stop hibernation.
So taking Ena, because so she can't back to Sea? O.o
Where she made clear that she admires Tsumugu,
like he is like Sun for her?

Except for the part where Manaka shot down Hikari, and liked Tsumugu.
You can keep the no chance drama to yourself.

She shot down Tsumugu,
and was ready to reply positively on Hikari's confession...
I don't think she wanted shot him down when with smile she said,
she want tell him after festival.

Also even if possibly Hikari will be shot down,
I still don't think Chisaki have a chance.

Umm helloooooo Tsumugu never confessed to Manaka that he wil be shot down and Tsumugu always has feelings for Chisaki even before the five year thing. So basically Manaka had no chance with Tsumugu ever! and their relationship is limited to only admiration.

Why was Kaname upset about keeping the news under wraps though? It is not like it would benefit him if that detail was made public. Chisaki's attempts to wear her old uniform was really funny. Kaname and Tsumugu might have started a cold war.

Kaname each day is more aggressive to Tsumugu. Being Kaname is suffering.

Anyways, even though Chisaki says she still loves Hikari I'm sure she will end up with Tsumugu. Again, being Kaname is suffering.

And now, the Sea God. That God is quite a prick. But I wouldn't mind if he takes Manaka again.
@Linkark07 Sorry for responding to this so late, but yes. Kaname essentially realized what was going on, it was always Hikari at 1, Tsumugu at 2 and him at 3, it's even brought up in ep 24 I believe he straight up tells her that if the love for Hikari didn't work out, then it would be Tsumugu next then himself. She quickly corrects him saying she can't love Tsumugu, in which he then likely realizes she had feeling for him. Funnily enough, in that same period of saying all this, she still emphasized that she liked/loved (with love being the correct translation) Hikari.

However, people usually think that her liking Hikari here would bring about a potential ship between the two, which was never the intent here, it's the nature of her love or the dynamic of her love for him that was the point. Even though she loved him, he's always loved someone else (Manaka). The same thing is happening here for Kaname; he loves Chisaki, but Chisaki loves someone else (Hikari and Tsumugu) however, her love for Hikari isn't possible via her kind of love being unrequited in nature, which both have in common.

Hope this clears up any potential misconception.

I feel so triumphant and yet empty (considering the time spent) at the same time considering a few weeks back I was arguing with someone who said Chisaki had already moved on from her past life while I told her NO SHE HASN'T!

Well whatever.. this episode is a big "fuck you" to Chisaki x Tsumugu shippers. It's going to take a hell lot of twists for Chisaki to change her feelings. And no, Chisaki's feelings isn't simply admiration or family love like some people here claimed. They purposely showed us a scene on how Chisaki fell for Hikari and had her basically re-live the scene as well as that talk about what's important is your feeling, not your age. She likes Hikari who always protects Manaka and Manaka's return as well as Hikari's action in this episode only reinforce the part that made Chisaki adore Hikari so much (his desire to protect Manaka).

It would seem that my theory that there will only be ONE pair at the end, just like Okada's previous works, is getting closer. I hate to say it but as much as Okada likes to mind fuck her viewers, she always ended up with the obvious choice that she has established since the first episode. In this case it'd be Hikari x Manaka with everyone else chasing after someone else's tail like they are currently doing.

Yes, people often wanted to push the agenda of her love for him being familial in nature which is inconsistent in the show and to her character (Her liking Hikari has NEVER been an issue, it's actually the only times she's ever been bold about something, she never hesitates about it, and this is something not even Tsumugu gets). The scene was also showing the beginning of her love for Hikari, then after she cuts back being into an adult, she then admits it to herself, blushing. However, people think that if this were the case, it would likely end up being a ship between her and him. But, that isn't the point, since as you've said, her love for him was still the same; with Hikari straight up saying love will remain despite age and time.

First loves like that, and in Japanese culture never EVER truly goes. One can move on from it, yes. But they will NEVER forget their first love. They can love another, but the first will always be irreplaceable compared to the others. It's also why the 'end' between them most likely felt bitter for her and Tsumugu, she never formerly rejects him, but neither did she accept him either.

She was still hesitating even to the end. That moment was to signify that she had accepted his feelings, just like Kaname did to Sayu... See the dynamics between them (Kaname and Chisaki?) Both not giving satisfying confirmations to their observer's confessions. Still, I think Chisaki more so accepted Tsumugu, since she says she didn't want to be happy without her friends, or something like that, which meant she had finally decided to explore her feeling for him (Giving the benefit of the doubt with this one). She had moved on, but moving on in this sense doesn't mean she loses her love for her friends or Hikari, she just understand their nature now and has to carry on in her life.

Man I was so pissed when she said that she still likes Hikari. Was such a good episode but that line killed it for me.

what if chisaki didn't mean that she likes hikari in a romantic way? she could mean that she still respects him a lot. cuz she's highly aware of the fact that she's 5 years older than hikari, that he likes manaka and that miuna now likes hikari. also, remember what she said to hikari 5 years back right before he left to go chase after manaka when kaname ratted hikari out to manaka. so she might've not meant that in a completely romantic way. then again, it's hard to control romantic feelings

No it was clear that she meant it in romantic way. She resembles Sakura and Ino from Naruto series who can't let their childhood crush over Sasuke go.

I am really sorry for Tsumugu who by far the most matured character among all and deserves someone better than Chisaki. I hope he will leave the village and Chisaki after his research will be over and never come back letting Chisaki stay with her dreams over Hikari as much as she wants.
@solomon585858 It kinda was in a romantic sense, but not the deep deep kind, it's more like, 'I definitely want to be with you' Not 'I'd have a family with you' kind (the first is a prerequisite to the second). She still has that level of care and devotion she held when she first feel in love with him.

However, Since her love for him is like it was when she first got it, it's also doomed to be unrequited. She can never truly have him since Hikari loves Manaka. Or, 'I love the you, that loves her' situation. She loves Hikari, but she can't do anything about it since Hikari loves Manaka. The line is bittersweet in nature; telling us she loves his kind/type of love and passion, implying she would want it for herself as well, but she also acknowledges that Hikari's love is for Manaka always, a powerful one at that.

She is still in the same space she was years ago as well. What also confirmed it and debunks the 'used to love him theory' is that Hikari later says that love remains despite the person's age and time, or something along those line. Like I said on another post, when it comes to confesssing to herself about loving Hikari or in general, she has never hesitated once on it.

While I am 100% a TsumuguxManaka shipper, I recognize the fact this probably won't happen :'-(

But for others, do you guys think Tsumugu's feelings developed for Chisaki before or after time skip? I mean, couldn't the feelings have developed from or because of the situation at hand, since they were kind of the only two left out of the equation? Or do you guys think Tsumugu developed feelings for Chisaki before the time skip?

But he's kind of a brick wall so it's hard to tell. -.-
@kokorochan- He definitely did develop feelings for her. The signs were there for him, but I can't say the opposite for Chisaki's end. Someone made a post debunking any claim Chisaki had liked him prior to the time skip, and someone else debunked the idea of her liking him in ep 13 where she hugged him.

Love this episode because it shows Chisaki's feeling for Hikari still hasn't changed.

I really hope HikariXChisaki can become the true pair and age doesnt matter as the writer showed this by Akari(Hikari's older sister) married to the man who is like 10 years older or something.

Tsumuga seems like he can live as a single person and Kaname has Sayu.

Hikari just open your heart for Chisaki and you don't have to remember about Manaka

Im rooting for ChisakiXHikari
@Renaultclio101 This would have never happened. She and Kaname share the same unrequited love dynamic—always loving "the you that loves someone else." But with the time skip, everything instantly fell apart, and now there’s a massive age gap thrown into the mix. Luckily for Tsumugu, he had a five-year head start with Chisaki, while Kaname was left behind. Over that time, her feelings shifted toward Tsumugu—not necessarily love, but by the halfway point of the time skip, she definitely had developed some feelings for him.

Has Tsumugu said. They haven't moved on, yet.
Was funny to see Chisaki wanting to get drunk :3
The confrontation between Tsumugu and Kaname was good.

And of course Chisaki's feelings for Hikari now are forced, she's just escaping the reality that she is now.
The reality of she being an adult, while her childhood friends are still kids, and her parents and everyone else being "frozen in time", which makes her unable to move on and start making her life with Tsumugu.
@CrimsonSilver4 Her feelings for Hikari were never forced. In fact, she never once doubted her love for him ever in the series at no point. Her love was the kind that simply wanted to be with him—the same kind of love all the friends shared before the time skip. But that’s no longer possible, and she’s fully aware of this, just as she is with Tsumugu. That’s why he says that one must eventually move on from their (past relationships or lose them or first loves) and find something new to replace it with—or something to that effect. It’s a reminder not to dwell on what can’t and won’t change.

Kaname’s love for Chisaki will always remain unrequited, just as Chisaki’s love for Hikari will. However, they can choose to let it go—not in the sense of forgetting it, but in understanding that it’s a path that genuinely leads to nowhere.

In Chapter 24, Kaname told Chisaki that if her love for Hikari never worked out (which, post-time skip, is no longer an option), then Tsumugu would have been next, and after him, Kaname himself. She then berates both herself and Kaname for not wanting to fall for Tsumugu—which is a crucial moment. It hints that she’s developed feelings for Tsumugu but struggles with the idea of moving on from her first love, Hikari. What she truly fears isn’t falling for someone new whilst being in love now, but the process of doing so and the unfairness of her situation surrounding her friends.

That said, I wouldn’t call her love for Hikari "forced," but in my opinion, the time skip itself made it feel more predetermined than anything else in the series that her and Tsumugu would have been a thing—the same goes for Kaname. The time skip essentially locked in that ship; it was only a matter of time. Had she gone down with the others, she and Tsumugu would have never been a thing to begin with—that’s a fact. Just as she and Kaname can’t be together, the same now applies to her and the one she loved most, Hikari.

@AnimeLaver01 funny enough, it's a bitter sweet situation she's in, she's loves Hikari, but we all know with her that it's straight up impossible, so she has no choice BUT to move on from it, which hints us that the thing she needs to use is Tsumugu, to allow a new relationship and love to bloom, the same thing Kaname and Sayu had did.

@oooo3333 Lol, I wouldn't say never, but If I had to put a number on it, I'd say 3% chance of it working out. I wouldn't say they are tied, I'd still have Hikari at number 1, the end was supposed to allow her feeling for Tsumugu to grow (just like with Kaname and Sayu), BUT if you are talking about a hypothetical future (like a few years ahead), then yes, or her love for Tsumugu would even out, or outgrow her love for Hikari.

I'm not sure if you can tell, but I was bitter for both her and Tsumugu. Both didn't truly get what they want (well Tsumugu did). When Kaname mentioned how this would all go down, it essentially was made out to be a 'second or third option' kind of thing. Her accepting feelings for him is the same as Kaname accepting Sayu's feelings to me, the only difference is, was that Chisaki developed SOMETHING (I wouldn't call it love perse' and it's unknown when this even happened during the time skip, but she definitely had feelings for him which is normal) over the years.
