So, I read the reactions of many people regarding the first episode and some of them made me a bit upset. First of all: So much talk about "loli", both happy and unhappy. Ai is in fact not a loli.

Whaaaat? But she is a little girl, you idiot!

Well, if you look up the meaning of loli, you may find that it is shrot for Lolita. And Lolita refers to young girls who are sexually attractive or "erotic-cute". And Ai is not sexualized. She is as a child and not as an object for sexual desires and fantasy presented. And the term "loli" just implies that.

Its a small thing, but could we just call little girls little girls?

Second, and more important: you won't get much loliservice. Ai is a child and she is often very cute, but not in the "thehe, I'm clumsy"-way. Its more of the Komi Naoshi-humor with funny faces and reactions to the strange stuff that happens around her.

As far as I have read the manga, Ai and Hampnie are not a couple or anything like that. She refers to him and see him as a father. Weither he is or is not, is another case. Its a story about father-daugher-relationship in an interesting setting. Please don't reduce this anime on the body of a young girl.

I doubt anyone who watched the first episode was expecting any actual 'loliservice' later on, as this clearly is not that sort of show.

I'd say it's merely a minor matter of incorrect nomenclature.

Acteally, loli can refer to any young 2D girl. It doesn't have to be sexual, its not short for 'lolita'(in 2D). Its perfectly fine to call her a 'loli' because she is one.

But I doubt anybody see's this as a 'loliservice' anime after the first scene, her getting kicked in the face is enough to proof that.

Bad definition is bad! Loli is any child-like anime character, sexualized or not.

There are only two lolitas - The book called Lolita, and Lolita Fashion. Everything else is blasphemy.

I think the point this person was trying to make is that there isn't anything sexual going on with Ai's character so people shouldn't jump up and call them some strange awkward romance. Now I haven't read any comments of anyone saying that exactly (but then again, I haven't looked) but everyone has their own right to fantasize about fictional characters anyway they want whether it is canon or not. You can't prevent people from thinking of Ai as a loli. Ai is drawn the way she is to attract viewers (who might like loli). Same for Hampnie. You can't say he isn't just a little fan service for ladies.

OP, I'm sorry, you are wrong. I find Ai sexually attractive and thus, she is a loli. Lolis are also my area of expertise, so you can take my word for it.

Problem, officer?
I want Rambo in a mecha-suit with a laser-chainsaw gun that fires nuclear warheads, fighting the love-child of Predator, Alien, a group of Bangladeshi terrorists, and Satan. (Actually that would be a pretty sick show) - StopDropAndBowl

Here's not the place to argue the definition of loli...
Weeaboo will continue to use their specific lingo, no need to get butthurt.

You do realize this is the adaptation of a novel?

In which he's most likely read.

Sadly, I did not. As far as I know nobody has translated it yet and I am not able to read japanese. But I read the manga - which is unfortunately not very far translated, but I am a bit further than the first anime episode.

I should've not made the loli-definition thing a point, because everyone ignored my second and far more important point. As far as the translated manga goes, the relationship of Humpy and Ai is that of a (reckless) father and a daugher, not a romantic. Ai is very cute and adorable, although not in the K-On way. Just think of iher like Rin of Usagi Drop before the timeskip.

Although, everything can change and if the anime will drown us in loli-stuff I will eating crows.

If it wasn't about having loli undertones they would omit the whole washing scene altogether, there was no need for it.

Her eyes aren't that huge, but they're bigger than other characters eyes because of her age.

You know, body proportions.

All of you weeaboos are wrong, I totally agree with the OP.
Originally Loli meant a girl who looked very young but was actually of age. All of these Non-Japanese "otaku" have skewed it to become any little girl that's cute that they fantasize about.

You are incorrect. The term "lolita" is of course from the famous Nabokov novel "Lolita", where the girl is very much underage. Nabokov even coined the phrase "Nymphet" (i.e. baby nymph) to emphasis this fact. The Japanese use of this expression was derived from this novel, it was later expanded to include girls trying to look underage, but the original and still primary use in Japan is to relate to underage girls.

I'm seriously SICK! of people saying "they're not a loli", if they look really young they're lolis. Make all the excuses you want, the panty shots and bath scenes are still gross and awkward. I have nothing against an anime having a side or main character that is a young girl, and I even understand and don't mind moe' and understand to some extent the cuteness factor(when actually done well). It's when they are fap material that I just lose respect for the people who made the anime and the fans who like it.

On topic. The loli doesn't help this anime. I already didn't think the characters were very memorable, and the plot is very iffy at the moment. I'm giving it one or two more episodes to decide if I keep watching it. I was looking forward to this as well, cause it's Madhouse and has an interesting premise.

Are you really such a tight wad that you drop series over 10 seconds worth of nude little girl?

And also, you bash the "lack of memorable characters" but call the premise interesting.

Whats the matter champ, do you hate god? I bet watching anime about how god is bad will show him how edgy and upset you are.

What do characters have to do with the premise? Also I'm not dropping this series because of the main character, although like the other characters she's lacking originality and personality. I just am getting pissed cause there is a new trend of everyone going "NO! she's not a loli you idiot, she's 13. Therefore she can't be a loli!". It's just a dumb way for people to defend their favorite anime that contain lots of fan service of characters that are 12-14. Like 12-14 year old characters(who look just like 11yr olds anyways) being turned into fap material is any less disgusting then the red backpack characters.

I don't hate this show, and honestly I was just ranting about this topic in general cause I've noticed it has been being brought up a lot recently. The preview for episode 4 looked interesting, and will probably decide if I keep watching it. There's a lot worse shows, and the loli fanservice isn't even that bad in this so I agree with OP. Although the little fan service there is just doesn't seem needed.
