That episode was so freakin good!!!
There was barely any fighting but I was hooked for the full 55 minutes. It was so satisfying when the captain said the hell with it your terrorists. I'm glad Marida made her own decision if I remember right puru 1 and 2 only ever do what glemmy/judau say so to see her follow her own path did a hell of a lot for her character. The moments between Zimmerman and her were priceless and made me tear up. I hope the last episode goes out on one helluva bang because Im hyped now.

Riddhe you moron, welp you just signed your death warrant.

And now for some reason I really think it's Char as much as I don't want to believe it.

Well shit, it barely had any action and yet it managed to be the best episode yet, and by landslide at that. Those confrontations of ideals between two opposing sides are nothing new in UC Gundam, but the stellar character animation really managed to elevate each dialogue and give them all the weight they needed to resonate with an audience who's already more than familiar with those kind of passionate speeches about Spacenoids and interstellar understanding.
I was once again impressed with Mineva's strength of character, which was on full display during her talk with Full Frontal (speaking of which, fucking +1 for the free trip to feelstown with that CCA flashback). Really goes to show how well she's being handled when every interaction she has with any other character manages to be intense as well as meaningful. I also really appreciated the development of Marida's relationship with Banagher, and it was incredibly satisfying to see her fight off the brainwashing and finally come into her own, all the while helping her master let go of his hatred.
Full Frontal is fucking Char and nobody can convince me otherwise: nobody else would namedrop themselves like he did this episode, and not only the CCA reference but also his little discussion with Banagher was pretty much a confirmation that he was the same man who tried to drop Axis on Earth witnessed the creation of the Psycho field back then.

Excellent episode all around, and pretty stoked for the finale.

Riddhe still a shit, though.

Yea I'm surprised no one's mentioned this. He all but said I'm Char. The same thing happened in Zeta where Char as Quattro Bajeena talked about himself in the third person to Kamille. The parallel is the same. But the biggest giveaway was him saying that he was there to see the Axis Shock as Axis was being pushed back into space. You mean the person who looks and sounds just like Char happened to see this during CCA but is not him? Hmmmm... It's always puzzled me how Amuro and Char "died" as Axis was being pushed back. They had to have survived or how else is Axis being pushed back?

I really hate the naive, sappy nonsense about fighting for "everyone", when people have varying views and you can't please them all. Despite Full Frontal being logical and driven by what really matters he's depicted as a villain, whereas Banagher and Mineva can only reply with "hurr durr even so".

Banagher and Mineva have no real plans, and by fighting for "everyone" they're in reality fighting for no-one - nullifying everyone's beliefs while claiming to care about them. They're incredibly self-centered.

Decent episode best part was the reveal of Full Frontal true motivation and plan, I have admit is pragmatic and logical especially when looking at from Zeon perspective. Instead of asking or forcing the EF to acknowledge and give them independence, they establish their own powerful economy by uniting with the colones and moon leaving out EF to fend of itself (EF no longer have resources or agricultural to look after itself) eventually dying out. Mineva made a good point as sound as the plan is it's just swapping the roles in a flawed system, in essence this could lead to a war akin to the OYW instead she want's a system that will be beneficial to all humanity.

Love the callbacks to the previous shows Full Frontal plan is culmination and foundation of what previous factions of Zeon did especially Gato from Stardust Memory 0083 whose plan was very similar to Full Frontal's.

The scene with Captain Otto refusing to negotiate with Angelo even though the hostile situation was the fault of his own crew members and they were saved by Neo Zeon from their own faction (EFSF) betraying them and nearly killing them, they still couldn't keep an alliance for a short time just reinforces Daguza and Full Frontal speech regrading people just following the status quo for their respective side even in the worst situations.

Just fucking phenomenal. The political dialogue is what makes Gundam the great show that it is and separates itself from other anime.

The future of humanity should be built by humans (paraphrasing)
That's something I can really appreciate. Between that and something Riddhe said in reference to Loni about blood, this might be the closest Gundam has ever gotten to cutting to the heart of human violence and tragedy (and hope...maybe?)

I think the way Unicorn has handled themes of idealism and belief are incredibly interesting, in this episode alone we see the several different sides fully embody their beliefs in different ways. The crew tell Fat Char and co. to fuck off even though they're in a fucked situation...Banagher and Mineva are witnesses to these sorts of shenanigans and stay true to their 'possibilities.' It's seemingly crazy but it's certainly poetic. It's heavy handed but doesn't feel preachy. This is pretty damn good stuff. Now, pray that the last entry doesn't shit all over everything.

Amazing episode and probably my favourite even though it was mostly talking. The writing was so well done and I loved how the ideal clash between the zeons and the feds were discussed and argued in full. I was really hoping that this series would be able to come close to the excellence of the origin ova and this series has most definitely delivered for me so far. one more episode to go.

“If Char Aznable were still alive right now, perhaps he’d no longer be entirely human” – I guess that’s a hint that Full Frontal is a copy of Char (just like with Ple) and a cybernewtype. Plus he mentioned that he witnessed the last events of CCA…which is another instance of teasing the audience. Mineva said that he’s “not the Char she knew”, does it mean that
1) Char is dead and Full Frontall doesn’t even resemble him in terms of ideals?
2) Char is Full Frontal but he’s figuratively “dead” in terms of his past personality? The show has quite a lot of room for speculation regarding Char because he has different fates in anime and novel/manga continuities.
But anyway, how did he return to Nahel Argama just in time to catch Banagher? Same for Zimmerman. I didn’t see the red mobile suit on the deck.

Best moments of the episode are, of course, those with Marida, especially the last one with Zimmerman - she called him "father" for the first time! ^_^ Very touching. I was really afraid that Zimmerman would be killed by that guy with a rifle of Angelo after such a touching speech.
Marida's talk with Banagher was also cute, she loves ice cream :3

Angelo with a rose :o A.k.a pretentious angry teenager

This episode is also notable for almost absent mobile suit battles, and it’s actually good. This OVA stands out a bit because it has more of this sociopolitical stuff going on than other shows in the UC.
It’s also never late to appreciate the level of detail inside the mobile suits (e.g. when Riddhe was scrolling through the weapon list in Black Unicorn)

I’m prepared for crying at some of the characters dying in the final episode ;_; I hope they won't be the ones I like the most....

nice, brilliant. now thats what you call expanding on characters and world

especially the interactions between characters, i mean Mineva for instance she is really a great character who is also strong willed. i mean she her goal has never faltered or just lost sight of them. Marida and Zinnerman have the most emotional relationship and interaction (gave me feels when she called out to him "father") freaking loved it.

Weirdly enough no mobile suit fights(but thats a merit) The clash of ideas left me wowed not knowing which side was going the right path, whether going one path could lead to a repeat of wats been goin on throughout the series as a whole *huh**choices*

Love the ed song

One more ep

Anyway, great set up episode again. The Captain was super based.

Nice of Char and Loni to spare the poor Feddie pilots.

Haha Loni bowing in space.

RIP Garcenaries.

Lol at Mineva saying she can't believe Full Frontal is the real Char because his plan actually makes sense.

Um, no Mineva. "Boycotting Earth will cause Earth to become the next Zeon!" is a tremendous leap. Once the Earth begins redevelopment again... why would they need the colonies? The colonies do not have natural materials like gold. That stuff is found on Earth. The Earth will be fine, only difference is that the Feddie higher ups don't get to dick over distant colonies they never even visit.

Damn Londo Bell betrayed the Sleeves!

Noooo Banagher don't help Londo Bell kill the Sleeves!

I don't buy Char telling Banagher that he is a cyber newtype. I think that this is like FF7 where Sephiroth was screwing with Cloud and Cloud was insecure and impressionable enough to believe him.

this i guess is going to be sunrise's ultimate anime masterpiece since code geass, like one of the best in anime history that will be told for generations to come...it really worked like a miracle >__<

I feel like hardly anyone in the West talks about Gundam Unicorn outside of /m/ on 4chan. The only Sunrise show talked about on r/Anime and on MAL is Code Geass (Cowboy Bebop seems to only be remembered by old timers). Mecha seems to be strangely stigmatized in the Western anime fandom, and if Gundam is ever mentioned, people only really talk about IBO.

I'm really impressed with Marida. She's definitely the best Cyber Newtype I've seen, as she seems to now have somewhat free, human will.

It's a race to Industrial 7, but that fool Riddhe has arrived. Banagher doesn't have time for this, but he has no choice but to take him out.
