I've never actually cried, but so far, everyone I know who watched anime said there were at least a few that actually made them well up in tears.

Tell me which anime and if possible, the genres they fit in.

The only one that made me so very very very close to being teary eyed, and actually made my face a tad red (and i am only talking about endings here) was Code Geass.

But you've seen it...nothing else though.

I honestly, truthfully cried at the end of Sword Art Online.

Also, other anime that made me cry:

Clannad.
Clannad After Story
Angel Beats.
Shakugan no Shana at the end of season 2.
Rosario and Vampire (because it was over and i loved it so much I didn't want to lose it)

Elfin Lied - Not really fair because I cried every single episode after episode 2 and never stopped, then cried for 3 days after, incapable of watching more anime.

Shuffle - Kaede reminded me of me when I found out about my daughter, cried so hard I havent been able to finish the story.

Yes. I don't know why anime can make me cry when I never cry irl, but somehow it succeeds.
Anime where I've at least teared up include:
Steins;Gate
FMA (Nina)
Angel Beats
The Girl Who Leapt through Time
Zero no Tsukaima S2

ok if you were brought to tears over how bad naruto is then i envy you cause you havent seen many if any bad anime if thats the lowest on your spectrum. You basically said the equivalent to saying your most painful experience is a paper cut.

Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

Not sure how I can take your opinions seriously when you currently have Boku no Pico sitting on your list rated as a 10.

Oh my lord.

Fate/Zero.

Pieces of my heart died during that god-forsaken anime. It was that sad. It was so sad, in fact, that you had a sense of hopelessness. That everything was just getting worse and worse. That there was no salvation.

Please watch it. Genres are action, angst, magic, drama, psychological, etc.

Umm I would have to say
- Grave of the Fireflies (wanted to cry a lot but was with other people so couldn't lol)
- Girl Who Leapt Through Time (so close to crying)
- Romeo x Juliet (teared up a tiny bit at like the last 5mins :P)

They're the only sad ones I've watched and sorry if others have already said them!!

Azumanga Daioh's last episode is more sad and impactful than almost any shows that are aimed at causing tears, only if you've watched through the whole show obviously. It's these types of things that get me - the stuff that TRIES making you sad or cry is doing exactly that; trying. Trying makes it feel a lot less natural, which makes it harder to feel it - because the show is shoving in your face "FEEL SAD" an "CRY NOW" instead of it just happening because of your personal connection with the cast or events.

Manabi Straight got me to tear up in a few episodes, it's a weird show with a lot of foreboding, but it's got a lot of fucking nostalgic feeling to it that gets to you.

Nothing so far. I didn't find angel beats! and Ano hana that sad at all.

I did tear up during episode 1 of Kotoura- san, but that was it. Maybe I'm just an emotionless brick when it comes to anime. At the looks of it, I should try Fate/Zero and see if manly tears will fall for me.

Clannad and its awful melodrama literally made me not want to watch After Story, so eh.

How is Naruto shitty? If it's been airing with like 250 episodes in the original, and still ongoing with a successful second season, you can't really say it shitty when it has millions of fans around the world.
