THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Anime original episode. Over all, it was not bad episode. Good actions and some comical scenes. The fist fights in front of the kid library was funny.

===edited
I heard Komaki and Marie episode will be DVD only episode. I close this entry untill the story of the extra episode is revealed.
I decided to make a separate entry about the alternation of the story.
Why did they replaced Komaki and Marie's episode?

Great ep as always, that details a bit of the background of the series. Pretty interesting even if it feels like a filler. By the way, 12 episodes is REALLY short for this series, and we're already at the half of it, Toshokan should have deserved much more than that :o

I think it's just the Sci-fi book Kasahara and Komaki managed to protect. "Transfer K505".

I don't know what's with the "Transfer" on the title though. But K505 (505 Kelvin) is equivalent to Fahrenheit 451.

this ep was alrite, nothing spectacular
but i thought the part when doujou drops his gun and provokes a fist fight with the enemy is just stupid.....same with the other little kid who tried to run into the library.....i mean seriously the enemy has a freakin gun.......they make it seem like guns arent dangerous.......

I liked the episode but I feel that having this kind of 'flashback episode' is like wasting the 12 episodes. I want to see more information about the censorship or something. Anyway Doujou running to punch the guy was funny :D

is it just me or does Hikaru have a thing for Mikihisa? As soon as he heard Mikihisa got shot he started to panic. And then when he was there he called his someone who happens to be within the government who can control over both groups. This showed me that he has some weird feelings for Mikihisa. Maybe I'm reading to into it.

I didn't really need to translate the title to know what the book was. As soon as they mentioned that the Protagonist's job was to incinerate books and that it was about a society that seemed to prophecy their own, I figured it was Ray Bradbury's Farenheit 451. Its still one of my favorite books down to this day! It's kind of ironic because when I first tried this series, that book briefly came to mind.

Anyhoo, to anyone who hasn't read Farenheit 451: I highly recommend this book! It's interesting how, even though the book was written as long ago as it was, it forshadowed a lot of the technological advances we have today, not to mention the fact that it's a great satire of where society could go if media is too tightly controlled.

another lovely episode, each one seems to end sooner than the last!
Though there was nothing new or revealing in it, it had some nice action and some really touching scenes (even if it was somewhat reckless of Doujou to do what he did it was awesome)

Yes, going from night to day in a split second was really good animation, it is so realistic, NOT!!!

I laughed my ass off when the brawl started. Armed soldiers going at it like angry kids, completly priceless. Best thing I saw today.
I'm starting to like Dojo more and more, and even though it's kind of easy to predict where this story might end, I can't wait to be there and experience it!
It really is a too short anime.

See the fairy tale - Dr. Seuss connection?

Good connection. Dr. Seuss definitely used children's stories to send messages. It also brings to mind The Little Prince for me, which is written as a children's book but intended for adults.

Yeah, I find that the premise behind the story grows more plausible the more we see of the typical politics and bureaucracy that would power government agencies like these. Some people are finding it hard to believe that the story is structured around two government agencies that are so fundamentally at odds with each other. Why would they draw up two opposing laws? In fact, government is made of balancing extremes and we see a lot of these kinds of power struggles between different groups in government (although perhaps not to the point of violence). How else can lawyers argue both sides of a story if the information can truly only be interpreted in one way? The government includes many voices (law enforcement, media, library, etc.), each trying to win power, hence opposing Acts. So I thought the anime was realistic in that aspect.

For example, the outcome of a lot of important events hinge on manipulating laws a certain way, basically shuffling the papers the right way, and I like how the anime conveys that when the library forces make an impromptu decision to "invest" in real estate so that they can handle a case involving their people and books, rather than the police, with whom they have a history of mistrust.

I like that the series draws so much from real social issues today. I saw parallels between Inamine's refusal to betray the privacy of the library's patrons and the current Patriot Act in the US. dtshyk has also mentioned an incident in the original novel where a boy commits a murder, and when they find violent media in his room, the Media Improvement Forces argue to ban these books. That's a real concern in society, that violent media impacts the behavior of youth, especially when it's glorified, such as is the case in some manga, etc. This kind of discourse is uncommon in anime, which I think is unfortunate since it would be a great medium for provoking discussion and thought rather than for pure entertainment. I'd really like to read the original book now, which I'm given to understand explains these struggles more. (Btw, dtshyk, thanks for educating us about that. ;) )

I do really like seeing the relationships between the characters, etc. but I wish this series was a little less entertainment-focused, maybe a little more serious about the questions it raises. At least they're present though, if somewhat subdued.

Whew. That was long-winded. Anyway, good series, characterization, and animation (crisp, clean, and professional as I would expect of a 2008 production, unlike some of the sloppy work we've been seeing). I'm liking Shibasaki and I'm glad Iku doesn't end up failing at _everything_. That was getting very annoying. Why do we keep seeing protagonists like those?

Nah, for me it felt like he was just angered they went that far no matter who it was that received the bullet and that gave him an idea on how to end it without any extra casualities.

Well atleast they got the book of prophecy! With it they can discover the censorship committee's weakness!

Anyways, it's hard for me to ignore the fact that a government is allowing two opposing armed forces. It really does just spell out disaster, normally their would have been a civil war long before this point.

Loved how technical and down-to-the-ground this episode was - just like an actual operation between two belligerent parties; tension at height yet still bounded by restrictions. The shot fired just made it even more vivid in the portrayal of that high-tension face-off pursuit. Heard that this was a filler; it was really done very well if so. Especially that referential tribute to Fahrenheit 451 - "Transfer K505".

Personal best for this episode was the flashback about the past event - REALLY laughed at how the entire thing became some sort of a gangfight in the middle of broad daylight.

5/5, obviously! :D

Great episode overall, very entertaining to watch while showing some good animation and characterization throughout, especially for Dojo through the hilarious flashback that turned to a WWE-style brawl, and Kasahara who learns more about not only the dangers of the job since she nearly let her emotions get the best of her job by wanting to go after the MBA troops shot at Komaki's leg. Good thing Komaki spoke about him and Dojo's past and correlate how similar the two of them really are and how he learned from his mistakes in the past to get to where he is now. Very enjoyable stuff throughout.

Also, seeing Shibisaki call Kasahara 20 times during midnight while Kasahara was out and in danger was sweet and endearing, shows how much of a friend she has living with her at this very moment.
