The girls found a lot of interesting things in Akihabara. It was nice to see all those beautiful animals.

Airi looked adorable in that maid outfit, nya. =^_^=

Well, the Akiba Broadcast Station was empty, after all. Not really a big surprise. But at least they were able to communicate a little bit with that computer. Definitely better than nothing.

Cute song at the end. :)

Let the journey continue...

The girls looked so cute in Maid outfits.
The girls found where the music is coming from but unfortunately it was AI that was broadcasting the music. It would have been really interesting if it was a survivor that they found instead. The song at the end was really cute.

A very fun visit to Akiba for the girls this time.
We got a cute cosplay, an interesting visit to the 'zoo' and finally finding out who the DJ really is (turns out it was just and AI unfortunately).

Music-wise, I'm pretty certain I recognized the ED theme of the first season of 'Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai' and I believe that the first music heard before that was used in episode 9 of the first season of 'Saekano' (but not completely sure on that one as the girls speak over it).

We were able to see the lovely and beautiful Akihabara post apocalypse ❤️
Such a lively district once filled with people now turned into a deserted zone with only animals.
Anyan and Yoko nyan were adorable in the maid uniforms..💖💖
We got the Bunny Girl Senpai ed song "Katarenai nemurenai" playing this time 😄❤️❤️
All of us saw that coming about the DJ being just an AI left behind by the original DJ who's continuing to broadcast songs. With Airi and Yoko's help with the speakers now the animals in the surrounding would be able to listen to the music without the need of radio waves, haha

Last week we got Crossing Field now we got Aobuta ED! DJ Taro had some good ass taste! I figured there’d be a twist that it was a recording or something, but it being AI is actually even more melancholic and bittersweet because the OG DJ likely gave the AI his voice and personality:/ or actually, if SAO is canon to this universe.. did he just give it kirito’s voice lol?

The fact he set up solar powered stuff too seems to imply he knew the world was about to end so what exactly happened??

There’s something beautiful yet heartbreaking about seeing Airi and Yoko going to maid cafes and dressing up with the backdrop of this post apocalyptic world that’s so empty. If only they could’ve got normal lives.. I really wonder if they’re truly the only people left on earth or if society has just moved underground or something.. is anyone out there listening to the radio still?

“Getting devoured by a creature that beautiful might have been worth it” ok let’s keep Yoko away from animals lol

Can't tour japan without visiting Akiba. I'll be surprised if those vending machines still have power after so long. After escaping from the zoo its former charges sure made the area their new haunt. Figures the king of the jungle would also be present. An Ai running a radio show though color me surprised. Catchy tune to end the ep with. But i hope that whoever built Jiro is still alive to hear their greatest work.

I figured it was AI that was acting as a DJ but I didn't consider solar panels as the source of the electricity. It makes me wonder how long ago it was since the humans (except for Yoko) have been gone because electronics degrade/wear out too so I'm still a bit surprised that the radio setup was all automated and still operable. Anyways, maybe they will find some survivors elsewhere.

Im calling it now, she's a clone of her "sister" and the real Yoko probably died in the apocalypse, then the system incubated this Yoko and taught her memories in the shelter with an android friend. That or Yoko is also an android, but the better iteration that had a fission reactor and functions similar to Airi but thinks it is human.

Akiba being all run down and derelict is something I'm not used to seeing, but for it to be a popular hub for the former zoo animals to roam around was surprising. Both Yoko and Airi had fun going around, seeing the different kinds of animals they could find, even a tiger which made Yoko tense up. Another thing that the girls did was to dress up like they were at a café. Airi's waitress dress with thigh-high socks suits her perfectly, while Yoko's butler outfit worked nicely on her, with both girls running cat ears and tails for the extra cuteness points. =)

Eventually, the pair got back to tracking down DJ Akiba. Along with more songs that played (Two that I recognised were AoButa's ED song and also High School fleet's OP song), They found the place where the songs were playing from, but the DJ in question was operated by AI and a solar panel, hence why the songs only played during days with sunlight. I'm glad that the girls helped out by making the songs easier to hear in the Akiba neighbourhood.

It still makes me wonder if the girls will find any other survivors. Other than that, simply seeing the girls going from place to place and discovering something new for themselves is still enjoyable enough for me!

The maid cafe was a pretty funny scene.
Thankfully that Tiger decided to leave them alone.
I had a feeling no human would be at the radio station, but that AI program. was pretty smart though.

Enjoyed this episode a lot. Loved that they went out of the way to actually broadcast the radio signal.

Man, I just really like he whole tone of this so much at the moment. It's possible that this is just going to continue being laid back CGDCT with an interesting setting but part of me really thinks they're laying the groundwork for something and they're going to break me at some point. Youko's incessant positivity and enthusiasm set against this backdrop and whatever the truth is about her sister just feels like too much work for it not to have some sort of huge payoff.

Call me an old buffer, but the fact that the first thing people think of when they get to a place claimed by nature is to start blasting their music is one of the reasons humanity needs to go extinct.

@Tirinchas Yep, on hearing their plan my first though was "the animals will be stressed out by that loud noise, that is sure". But thinking about it, I can see how the anime tries to build on its mood even with this nonsensical thing they have put so much effort into. I don't think anything they do has any meaning to it in a world that is slowly swallowing up everything that humans have ever created aside from the meaning that they attach to it. The guy who had built this automatized radio station thought it meaningful to put effort into having it on-air, even though it was likely that nobody would ever listen to it. Still it might have given a reason to his final days here, that his station would play the music that mankind had created into the deaf void until his equipment stops working and all of ten million songs will be lost forever. I think the girls kinda understand that, blasting those songs to the animals is nonsensical, but there is a sadness to it, as if giving voice to and saying goodbye to something that lost for good and never will return. It is kinda in contrast to the cheerfulness of the girls, but their the song they sang gave reason to it, they are at least alive and that itself makes them happy.

@Niwaka-Samurai You didn't to mention the background in the ED as well, her lost elder sister was also cute in her cosplay.

An important scene was never used in this episode, where's Youko's vision of crowded people in Akihabara?

Ah Ueno Zoo. Yeah, that makes more sense than my first thought that the animals were descendants from abandoned animal cafes.

The gigantic tortoise was probably a bit of artistic licence, but Ueno Zoo does currently have a Giant Galapagos Tortoise, and in the wild they've been seen as big as 1.5 metres in length

13:31 he's playing one of the EPs from Season 1 of Rascal Doesn't Dream of Bunnygirl Senpai! :D i recognized it immediately!

heh! getting Matsuoka-san to voice the DJ was a hoot! putting something like "i've always liked Matsuoka-san's voice... so i'm going to use recordings of him to make Jirou The Second's voice!" in Jirou the 1st notes would have been hilariously meta of the screenwriters! :D

also, if you think on it a minute... he already holds the Guinness World Record for the most unique sound bites provided by a voice actor in a single mobile game for "Danmachi - MEMORIA FREESE". that is (as of June 2019) a total of 10,175 unique sound bites. considering the game is STILL in production? he probably has recorded even more lines. add in the fact that you might possibly consider Jirou the 2nd an AI emulator of Matsuoka-san? he could be the single most productive/prolific recording artist/actor in human HISTORY! :D heh!

For those interested, given that they used Crossing Field, the op of SAO, in the last episode, I searched the songs in the credits to find out what other references they used. From left to right, top to bottom, we got:

- Tetsudō Shōka (The railway song), a series of old Japanese songs talking about railways

- Tenohira wo Taiyō ni, a famous Japanese children song. These two are the two songs that Airi and Youko sing in the episode, which makes sense since they are popular songs sing in schools and things like that.

- Blooming Lily, by Eriri Spencer Sawamura, a character in Saekano (Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata) voiced by Saori Ōnishi. It's a character song, but I don't remember if they used it in the show or not.

- High Free Spirits, by Trysail. The opening of High School Fleet, a 2016 anime that is kinda like Girls und panzer, but with boats, fron what I've read.

- Fukashigi No Karte, by the cast from Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai (Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai). The song that most people will recognize, used as the ending of that show.

An interesting set of choices to reference other shows and represent what Akihabara is, in my opinion.

Cute episode! The radio wasn't been run by a human after all, but it's still a cute moment 🌟

I did notice that the EP animation was different this time - that's cute! I'll hafta go rewatch earlier eps to see the differences there too.

All the songs so far are such a cool touch to this anime - it doesn't even have the musical genre and yet it really adds to the atmosphere 🎶🎵

Loving this anime so far!

Well, they did mention in a previous episode that various different animal species have undergone mutations due to endocrine disruptors, presumably in the intervening time since the beginning of the apocalypse. When they spotted that orca whale there was surprise exclaimed over its size. That shark which stole Youko's caught fish in a previous episode may have also been unnaturally large. Not getting into the scientific realism of it in general or within whatever the set timescale is, or whether it's going to be expanded upon further in the show, but just mentioning it as the tortoise is probably an extension of that worldbuilding detail.

As I suspected the DJ was an automated program, an AI to be precise. It was nice of the girls to give him an upgrade. Maybe if they ever come through Akihabara again they could hook up an antenna and give him greater range.

Also, I find it rather ironic that certainly aesthetically uniformly throughout but also usually tonally, the twin sister and predecessor of this series, Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou, is so much bleaker and more drab in every way and portrayed as such. And yet in that series it somehow felt more logical and intuitive, even in the early episodes, that they would encounter more other humans roaming around. Here and at this point in the series, the world-ending devastation feels less total and extreme in this one as well as more recent, and yet, they've managed to give off the impression of it being even emptier if that's what they were going for.

Maybe because things are, in general, less destroyed, and yet not even a few humans are present using items and facilities in a makeshift manner even in former dense shopping and entertainment districts of Japan's largest urban metropolis, its capital city. It gives rise to a sense that if they aren't even here (as in Akihabara in this episode), then they won't be anywhere.
