Another case about a character who lost her memories. Got similar vibes to the first episode when Hairi met Shiroha for the first time.

So yeah, this seems to the final story arc of this season so I'm very curious how they'll devleop the relationship between this new girl Nanami and Shiroha.

Final stretch of the season coming up here, can’t believe it’s really about to end in a few weeks! So we got our final new character I presume in Nanami who shows up with amnesia, immediately takes to bonding with Shiroha and her grandfather.

My theory rn based on the start of this episode is that she’s the personification of Shiroha’s mother’s emotions. They’re beating us over the head with stuff about Shiroha mom and how suddenly she disappeared. I think she killed herself in that ritual to see her beloved again and her soul has essentially found its way back to Shiroha. Would be the perfect way to wrap the story since Shiroha is umi’s mother and got to spend time with her as a family in their arc, now Shiroha will get to spend time with her mother.

Either that, OR she’s some combination of both parents which would explain why she speaks with Boku as a girl. Or that could just be an anime quirk lol. Pretty confident it’s the former theory tho. Ready for waterworks.

Going back in time it seems with loli Shiroha this time.
The big question is will the be able to solve the puzzle and will resolving things in the past change the future.
Let's hope they can find the clue.

I am a bit puzzled, but I guess this is Yumi, right? Or is it the Mother? Or a fusion of both because of the butterflies?

The Pockets Arc seems to start with a good adaptation. The only damageable thing is that they made Nanami's real identity too obvious comparated to the VN. But really, I hope for an excellent end, I hope I'll find again the feels I lost on the first half of this adaptation.

Interesting how the true ending route seems to be disconnected to other routes than other routes, I mean the protagonist is not even male gender anymore.

We have heard HanaKana's voice as a voiceover at the start of the previous arcs but this is the first time we get to see her character in person.

After last week's truckload of emotional damage, this week's has been a breather with a far lighter tone comparatively. Of course, there's still the pain of Shiroha grieving her parents' death & disappearance to remind us that this is a Key title.

At least there's closure with Shiroha's dad while her mum had simply disappeared. The tale of jumping into the ocean and turning into a butterfly seemed to be a hint of her fate.

Nanami is a mystery but one clue that stood out was the split second memory she had about Umi, Shiroha & Hairi. There's no question she has a strong connection with Umi but it only raised more questions if we posit the theory that she's Umi's soul that had somehow travelled far more to the past than just the start of the summer.
Authentic.

What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway).

And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea).

RIP Catherine, you'll always be remembered in our stomach hearts.
Little Shiroha is so precious and adorable, Nanami is acting like a big sister to her and that's very cute.
Nice to see the four 'gods' haha, a reference to a mini game of the VN inspired by pokemon.

"Catherine?!"

"The Legendary Mountain Plat That Only Appears A Dusk. (Leftover Veggies from the produce shop)"
Someone was waxing poetic.

"Sorry. I'm Sorry."
Don't sweat it Namani; That catharsis was what Shiroha needed.

Clearly it is "Umi" from that one memory flashback she had, but why is she so different? Is this more like her true form in the future, or is this avatar combined with someone else?

I know that this is a VN, but i think they should have told it like clannad, i don't like to reset it again and again.
Sometimes it is better to focus on the best routes and flesh them out.

@SenpaiTM
The whole point and narrative of the show is Umi's time looping again and again. Not to mention the time frame is "summer vacation" which only last a month.

Clannad's narrative is just much easier to adapted so combined all the stories into a single timeline is possible.

I guess Shiroha got her chuunibyou tendencies from Kobato and his fellow "Gods of Torishirojima" buddies lmao.

A kid daughter in a field of flowers crying about a parent that abandoned her flared up a very specific ache in my heart.

RIP Catherine 1990(?)-1990(?)

Nanami is finally here. I still cannot believe that they spoiled her existence in the opening but hey judging from the replies it seems to not have been a bad move. Nanami wasn't a character I particularly jelled with in the visual novel but, again, I'm surprised by how likeable the anime makes it's characters. Studio Feel and Key really condensed some of the best parts of Pockets Route into this episode. Nanami and Shiroha were great fun to watch and I really felt sad for Shiroha when the topic of her parents came up. This is definitely a top=3 episode for me and Pockets seems to be doing a fine job taking over from Alka Route as a genuinely well-adapted story.

It's honestly so odd hearing KanaHana's quality of voice acting go so far and beyond. The voice acting in this anime is generally very good but KanaHana just knows how to get the absolute best out of any given role.

The part where we meet the gang as children seems to be anime-original if I'm correct? Looks like Ryouichi and Tenzen were a lot more timid as kids. Also Kyouko-san is best girl and she was still best girl back then.

This episode is top-5 in terms of animation quality and direction so i hope it continues to grow from this point on.

@SenpaiTM That doesn't really work in the same way here though, all the routes are central to the overarching story theme and the time loop is a core part of it. In Clannad it's fine to just put the routes in one timeline and cut out the romance because it won't mess up the story by doing so, whereas here it would.

New arc and it's really good so far.

I really like Nanami, shes just a caring person who has amnesia and is trying to figure who she actually is. I'm going to assume that Nanami is Umi's mom but I could be wrong of course but that's just a theory I currently have in my mind. Of course, we will probably know the true identity of Nanami in the upcoming weeks and I'm really excited.

I'm pretty sure Nanami's identity is obvious, but some people are still puzzled by it. Anyway, it was a cute episode, but the only thing it really did was flesh out Shiroha's past a bit more.

‎Welcome back to another main character of a Key work Kana Hanazawa!

This is her 3rd role with Kanade Tachibana of Angel Beats! and Kagari of Rewrite before this.

‎I also really love the fact that Nanami is really a KanaHana character just based from her design, and lowkey I preferred Umi's design to be like this from the very start but that's not the case since they really wanna hide that she's the daughter of the main couple of the series.

Must be weird going from being a kid hanging out with your teen mom to suddenly becoming a teen hanging out with your kid mom.

Also kid Shiroha sounds exactly like kid Umi. Same VA?

People, Nanami is Umi. Did you ignore the beginning when she explicitly said and showed her memories reformed into a new body? I swear people's media literacy can be so low some times...

I liked the first Genbu more, the other guys were epic old dudes but Genbu was just Paul from shipping and receiving lol. But yeah we’re here at the final arc now, and it’s kinda weird to say the least, we got this brand new character Nanami taking the lead and all the characters we know are fun sized now. And Nanami herself seems to be Umi but at the same time not Umi, it’s hard to say exactly but she’s definitely Umi related, that much is certain lol.

And while Nanami is trying to get her memories back, the current plot lies with little Shiroha as we learn more about her parents, and you can’t help but feel terrible for her. Her dad dies in an accident, and her mom just up and disappears afterward, leaving her kid behind, but I’m starting to think she didn’t disappear and actually did exactly what that folktale said, it’s crazy that the last thing Shiroha’s mom did was talk to Kyouko about that but Kyouko didn’t think anything of it, I was thinking maybe she’d be important finally but nope, still just kinda there. Not sure where we’re going from here and how it gets us to the true ending, but it won’t be much longer and we’ll find out, just gotta stay patient a bit longer.

Hmm, at first I wasn't sure who Nanami is supposed to be but when they showed her having a brief memory of Hairi and Shiroha with Umi I think Nanami is Umi, either in an older body or maybe a borrowed avatar. Plus in the last episode Umi mentioned needing to go somewhere else to try to resolve the dilemma of Shiroha dying.

Regarding Shiroha's mom, it appears that she committed suicide to be with her husband that suffered an accident (I don't recall if they said what exactly happened to him) which is a shame since it left Shiroha with no parent. On that note perhaps Nanami's purpose is to either to get to the bottom of what happened to Shiroha's mom or get Shiroha to change her outlook in life which may change what happens to her.

This took an unexpected turn. I guess Umi went back further in the past but she grew up at the same time while losing her memories. Or maybe it's a new character? Idk lol, but I'm assuming it's Umi anyways. The protag really changed here. Ig the folklore of Shirohane is real, as Kyouko started explaining it, I just remembered she was talking to a shichieichou named Hitomi back in episode 18. I figured the last ingredient had to be sunflower seeds the moment they mentioned the sun lol. Shiroha also had a rough past too, man. I wonder how it'll go if/when Nanami gets her memories back, she does feel the presence of some sort of memories.

Never ending plan to watch list...

3:30 THAT’S SO SAD 💀😭🤣 CATHERINE

4:40 Assuming this is Umi who traveled back into the past, but is now grown up a bit, that fear of boats is the result of the incident with Shiroha’s ritual.

I can’t confirm on MAL, but I’m pretty sure this grown up Umi is voiced by Kana Hanazawa! 🤣🙌🏻 Ichika from Quintessential Quintuplets. No mistaking her voice.

6:00 we finally learned about Shiroha’s parents 🥲

9:18 looks like this Umi can make good fried rice 🤣🙌🏻

17:00 Grown up Umi meeting past Kyouko 🫢 nothing seemed to spark any memories

19:40 all the other characters as kids! 🙌🏻 including Ao and Ai!

Man this anime really took a huge plot turn. Wasn’t expecting this at all! No more Hairi for awhile 😅

The "Gods of Torishirojima" gives me vibes of Pokemon's elite four. If someone else has taken Kobato's position, does that make him a Pokemon Champion now? XD

That funny moment aside, this episode did well to follow on from the emotional episode from the previous week. Nanami is an intriguing character, voiced by a familiar Kana Hanazawa, where she woke up in a chicken coup of all things. It was also interesting to see more focus on Kobato and a young Shiroha, so I'm guessing 8 or more years in the past compared to the present day with Hairi arriving at the island.

Knowing more about what happened to Shiroha's parents make me feel very sympathetic towards her. No child of that age should ever go through the heartbreak of losing their parents through tragedy or the equivalent like that. It made it all the more sad to see Shiroha breaking down crying when she and Nanami visited a sunflower field after it reminded Shiroha of when her mother took her there.

At the moment, I will take a guess that Nanami is an older Umi, going by the flashes of memories that popped up here and there, although I can't help but feel that there's still a few things that hasn't been hinted clearly enough for me to make a confident guess at. Either way, I do look forward to seeing how this mystery gets further unravelled.

The funny thing is in the actual VN, there is a Pokemon-esque mini-game called Shimamon (Island Mon) where you go collects various "monsters" to fight with the other characters, and you can get these old mans which is pretty much the Legendary Pokemon.

At first you thought they only exist for a gag mini-games, only to turns out you meet them in the final arc of the actual story lol

The time loop of Umi is different now. She actually becomes someone else and comes to the time when (Shiroha) her mother was a child.

The scent of a sad ending is getting stronger.

Nanamis face looks so much like Hairis, but I guess it makes sense if she is Umi from the future. But I hope we get some sort of happy ending after all.
But the mothers friend Hanami talks to is the same person Hairi stays with, right?
