Shinohara Kenta is a genius when it comes to heart wrenching back stories, but the first half about Kara's family feels so out of place, especially for something so heavy. Not sure if they're not adapting the chapters in order or this is how it is in the manga, either way it feels lacking.

The next half with Jun is funny. I really like it.

Less comedy this episode but all 3 segments hitting home this time. \

Kara being best girl and having a rather heartwarming segment; it's a damn shame we see so little of her.

Mini-Moi is pretty cute and I wish he was here to stay but it is what it is.

Cried on the first part of the episode not because of Kara. But because that scene reminded me of that dying mother sending advance birthday letters to her daughter in Violet Evergarden.

Ugh, this episode was comfy, and that final scene with Nico and Morihito was peak comfiness!

I loved the “emotional expression spell”… I wish the scene had ended with Nico wrapping her hands around Morihito…

Also, I really liked those two particular frames.

What a rollercoaster of emotions, from sad to funny and wholesome.

Always love a Moi × Nico moment! (Kan and Keigo being the best wingmen!)
The mini-Moi was really cute, it's amazing how much different emotions he actually feels.

i can see TONS of interesting and probably illegal ways that Emotionicon spell could be used. ;9

definitely do NOT play cards with Morihito for money, unless you make him the dealer for Texas Holdem and blackjack every turn!! :D

i seriously do not remember that girl with the hairclip and dad who shredded the letter. who is she? her dad was a HUGE a$$hole for shredding that letter! by high school age it should have been just fine to give the daughter that letter. if it was more than a year since the mom passed.

what do you guys n gals think? that step-mom thing... i don't recall reading or hearing anything about it in Japanese culture... blended families weren't really a historic thing outside of one or the other spouse dying in Japan. especially before The Post WW2 Occupation and massive cultural exchanges between Japan and the US (and other Allies) that happened during those years. divorce rates have still been very low in Japan. comparing it to the nearly 50% 1st marriage divorce rate the US has had off and on during and after the 70's. especially since Japan's first marriage ages have increased catastrophically in the past 20-30 years. the numbers of marriages per capita there is definitely crappy, but everybody waiting till they're 29-35?

the English and Japanese elementary school textbook skit was... heh... mhm... confusing. :\ i guess that one really would be 'an inside joke' for them. :/ i am just quite gifted when it came to reading. i learned English so early in my life that by the time pre-school/day care was for me... i was already digging into the 2nd and 1st grade levels of books in the library. when i hit 5th grade i was above and beyond HighSchool books. \shrug/ so that boy and his dad the middle-school English teacher... he should have been so advanced he looked like 'An American Character' and spoke English (not Engrish) with automatic Japanese subtitles appearing around him 'mysteriously'. THAT would have made more sense to me than the 'New Horizons' skit. but i'm culturally biased. ;>
just an ol school American otaku enjoyin the life. don't sass me kiddies, i've been otaku probably since before you were born. leave me in peace and i won't bother you either.

I think this was the most emotional and well-crafted episode so far. I liked seeing the sensitive side of Moi and also that girl who is Nico's friend. The episode worked a lot on the emotional side and also had a bit of comedy in the part of that guy who spoke in a weird way, very good lol ❤️

The guy who uses "Watashi", "Anata" and -masu form with everything. He's straight out of Japanese textbooks (in fact, it's meant to be parodying English textbooks for Japanese people; they use Keigo because first and second person pronouns aren't optional in common English sentences). When Nico takes on the same art style, she looks like Mary from Genki 😂
Interspersed with Nico's friends talking, you can hear the difference between casual Japanese and textbook Japanese, especially the "lesson" with Kanshi.
Jun and Anna's conversation was like watching the JLPT listening section animated 🤣

Flashbacks of learning Japanese with the Genki textbooks with Jun talking. It was like reading the conversations in there all over again.

Holy this was such a good episode with the character development for Kara and Moi, Kara’s family drama was so sad but ended in a beautiful way I forgot that her dad is her real dad and her mom isn’t that was a shocking revelation fr ngl, I’m happy she got screentime tho I love her character design so much she’s like the finest girl in the show next to Nemu but anyway yeah I love how Kara and her dad reconciled great segment man🥹

Moi had me feeling for him when he started to tell Nico he’s sorry for not being expressive that really hurt fr bc we all know Moi has the nicest and kindest soul and always is happy to help ppl it just that he conditioned himself to show emotions, (except when he finds something funny in a movie💀)this was such a good episode man I love every bit of it🥹

Mini Moi had me giggling a lot he’s so expressive🤣

This episode was a mixed bag of emotions for me.

We started off with a tearjerker segment with Kara that was really well written I must say.
Then after that we returned to our more humorous segments, which was fun :}

Kara needing both Moi and Nico's help to restore a shredded letter about her mother's illness, yet the deed done by her father, this is some heavy family drama. Clearly, there's soemthing important within the letter itself, and due to how the two works their unique individual ways, they agree to help her restore that very letter, which had all the drama of a family that isn't wholly hers. Thankfully the letter was restored, but the plot twist of the mother being unaffiliated to the Minami family, yet has all the properties of a "like mother, like daughter" imagery raising her from young that instills feelings as if it were genuine.

Still, Nico doesn't miss her chance of helping other people, though this Saitama-based Jun Horai that just looks like a character taken from a textbook, he just wants to change his figurre of speech to gain love. The explanation, however, is just like reading an English textbook, and a spell to try to converse better, there's no real need of magic for it if he can talk normally. The girl of Ann Nikura, however, skips the entire conversation and just proceeds to the relationship lol, which in turn, is a movie date for Nico and Moi?

Both Kanshi and Keigo trying to help Nico realize her feelings for Moi by observing him instead, and as turns out, there is a spell for it, which if it helps Nico understand him better, then it's all the more worth it. The idea through the interpretation of the tiny Moi on his head, and Nico even dressing for the occasion with the yukata for the Summer Festival inept, Moi is always on the move helping people, though through his poker face that isn't exactly emotionless, that's caused by his strict training.

At least Moi admits that having Nico around has changed him for the better, and even their private time together is cherished all the more.

Part 1 was very touching.

Part 2 was kind of funny, but I believe much was lost in translation, regarding the nuisances of Japanese accents and the New Horizon / New Crown references.
Their accents sounded wooden or robotic to me, but the references flew over my head, since I have no idea what New Horizons/Crown is. But that 4th wall breaking "character design" remark was hilarious. 😆

Part 3 was quite fun as well. Nico in a yukata is super kawaii, and mini-Mori was so cute!
They were just making fun of language learning textbooks. In this case English textbooks, since that's their primary foreign language, but the sentences they used are the same ones you would learn in any beginning foreign language.

It was an ok episode. This anime started out with a lot of slap-stick humor, but it's slowly devolving into boredom. The English speaking drones were funny however.

The letter ordeal with Kara was not what I was expecting. It was sad and sweet how Kara truly loved her mom and cared deeply about their relationship regardless of blood ties. She misunderstood it at the beginning but was still perfectly accepting of the truth. That shows great character.

The second portion with Jun's unique art style and manner of speech threw me for a loop but he found his perfect English textbook match with Ann so cheers to that!

Chibi Morihito was a nice new look at our male MC. He might not be the most expressive guy, but he's still a caring and appreciative dude.

How did the father know where she was...? I get that this is comedy but don't insult the viewers intelligence now. Because of that I couldn't take what supposed to be an emotional moment seriously.

What a beautiful episode to see Nico realize that even though Moi's expressions aren't being shown he still feels them when they are together through her magic. The scene with the fireworks was gorgeous and it was a little sad to see little Moi go away.

if this could still continue being a slice of life series i would be sooooo happy, i'm convinced it will become more serious, but i won't complain too hard. When it does slice of life like it did once again this time, it almost always succeeds.

First 1/3 had a twist and it was heartwarming, 2/3 was at the same time weird and charming with all that average english language book character gimmick and it still worked out, 3/3 was automatically the best one just because of the little Moi spell, date, yukata and fireworks. It was bound to become a automatic win, come on. Next previews are interesting considering who returns.
(save your time and don't try to comfort when i rant on casual discussion or forum games, feel free to ignore me, i won't take it personally)

Kara portion of the episode was nice, glad to see her comeback and get some screentime as well as learn a bit more about her family backstory. Then the Nico + Moi date made Nico realize just how important Moi was to him even if she cannot always read his emotions without her magic.

Kara's backstory is was great to see. She learns an important lesson about family because of it, and will always cherish her father. Nico + Moi pair grows stronger in the final part of the episode as Nico's magic shows her chibi Moi who expresses Morihito's inner emotions.

Wasn't expecting this episode to be so emotional. At least not the first part. What a twist that it wasn't Kara's dad who wasn't her biological dad but instead it was her mom who wasn't her biological mom... That means both of her biological parents are technically probably still alive. But it probably isn't a good idea for her to go after her biological mom now cause she probably already has her own family by now. And Kara probably thinks of her adoptive mom as her real mom anyway. Either way, that was a touching segment.

Lmao. It's good to know that awkward dialogue in English textbooks is common in Japan too. Good thing that guy found a girlfriend just like him.

The Mini Moi was so cute. Yeah, Morihito has pretty stiff expressions. However, it's reassuring to know that despite his appearance, he actually experiences every human emotion. Nico looked lovely in the yukata. Almost like a different person lol. This was a lovely episode. Looks like a new character will debut in the next episode.
