Finally, it's over, these last 2 episodes were ass and I was really bored. The anime isn't bad, but I feel like all the buildup to this point wasn't worth it, this anime is way too slow as well, and I expected something way better in the last 2 episodes, all the dialogue and the wall of text got me bored at this point and I wanted a better payoff, I feel like all the buildup has been for nothing, and the plot twist was kinda shitty to be honest.

Meh whatever, I won't undermine the previous episodes since they weren't too bad I guess, but the buildup to this point was shit, and they also tried to go all philosophical in the end with Albert, which I frankly don't give a fuck about in this anime, they just decided to randomly insert that character in it, I know he's an historical person but I don't give a fuck, I'm watching an anime here, and his story in these last 2 episodes was crap, in these last 2 episodes we were supposed to be in some sort of climax or something, I didn't wanted all this boring dialogue to finish up this crap.

Fuck this, I'm removing 2 points and I will end my rant with a rating of:

The Rafal alternate reality theory makes no sense as everybody has already debunked. Also the "oh he's just a random guy that looks like Rafal" theory also makes no sense....

I gather this wasn't in the manga? Anyway, despite its imperfections, still had to give it a 10/10. Up there with Vinland Saga.

Concerning the teacher, I don't believe he is Rafal in an alternate reality. I'd say he looks like Rafal because he is what Rafal may have become, had he grown up: willing to sacrifice other's life as much as his for the sake of knowledge. Novak was right about Rafal, the kid was indeed way too young to die for his convictions, he was too absolute.

All in all, it's a bittersweet conclusion to see that Rafal, Badeni, Ockzy, Jolenta and Duraka somewhat made it to History, although their names are forgotten. Beautiful anime, a bit too verbose sometimes, but I'd give it a solid 8.

Inevitably disappointed, the series didn't need to have this sort of atypical, confusing, surprising and controversial type of ending. It had never suggested up until alternate Rafal's appearance that it was aiming for something like this. Inevitably made me feel that all the interest and emotional investment I had put into the 1-23 storyline was always pointless, which is never a good outcome.

I'll pretend the last 2 episodes never existed, otherwise I wouldn't be able to have an overall positive feeling towards it.

I watched this expecting a full on science stuffs, but instead I got more Philosophy, History, Religion and what else, but I still enjoyed it until the very end, the type of anime that makes me keep wondering.

I felt betrayed when the one I thought the main character (Rafal) died in like episode 4 but then I realized what it's going to be about, letting the "inspiration" live on. I really love how it went from new set of characters to another (even though it pained me to see so much death) because it's literally how history go, the knowledge in the past will make it to the future, doesn't matter if it's right or wrong, the next generation can learn from it.

I too am inspired, my bottomless curiosity just makes me want to learn more things, that's also why I enjoy the anime culture because I just love knowing different stories.

I watched with my own ideals, beliefs, reasons but I still felt for every character, I can understand what they are all fighting for and how far will they go to achieve their goals.

A really good anime, wish I could express my thoughts better.

On a side note: I should relearn and refine my math skills haha

Very unique and interesting anime.

Seeing the beauty of this world and how people inspire each other throughout the years was well displayed here.
People will have different ideas and ideologies and inevitably we will clash with each other but isn't the existence of life beautiful on it's own?

The fact that we're here in the 21st century talking about events that transpired almost 600 years ago is incredible, so many events from history that got us to where we are now, so many sacrifices for a future we're currently living in.
A future where we can discuss basically anything we want, learn as much as we want and have a pretty easy life in most ways.

Fantastic storytelling!

I came to this anime with honestly no expectations and I was blown away by it. I thoroughly enjoyed the various stories or Rafal, Badeni, Oczy, Jolenta, Schmidt, Draka, and Albert. The way that Albert's of doubting and not sharing knowledge which led him to obtain anymore knowledge and couldn't expand his knowledge. While Rafal was to believe do whatever it takes to obtain new knowledge or to expand on this theories. I'm honestly glad that I watched this and kinda sad this is it for the anime. Such great storytelling in my opinion and I loved it.

10/10.

I was really invested until episode 23, but the last two episodes and Rafal as a murdering psycho ruined it for me.
Just ending the show with Draka's death and maybe a short scene of the pigeon arriving somewhere, would have been better, in my opinion.

I've been thinking about the ending since I finished the series but I am either too dumb or author is too pretentious for their own good.
what even was that?...

Most popular theory first 23 episodes is Albert's story/book but if that's the case, don't you feel cheated, since you invested so much time in what basically dog's dream? "Oh you liked and cared about these characters? Well TOO BAD none of them were alive in the first place, it's characters created within the universe". I like the writing, the themes and morale, but last 2 episodes kinda ruined it for me. Did story really need this "twist"? Even if it's not actually Rafal and some other guy (we already saw him in ep.4), it still leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I don't know, man. I can't say it's a bad story, and author himself tells us that we need to question everything, look deeper, but I personally feel cheated.

Maybe when more time will pass, I'll reach some sort of an elightment, but right now I am very conflicted about what to feel. Still a pretty good show, heads above most series that come out nowadays.

@PrOxAnto very poetic way to look at things, and I think it was one of the main themes of the series. A lot of things should have happened for us even to be able to walk this Earth, let alone discover things we did, create Internet etc etc. It's a miracle, no less. And by doing something we can directly inspire those that will come after us, to finish what we started- the way famous actors, writers, artists inspire younger generation. Very beautiful

Also held out for Badeni to be revealed as the confession priest..

It´s not Badeni, is the aprendice inquisodor, the one present when Jolenta is tortured by Antoni. Badeni and Ozci were burned at the stake.
@Kondou-san I also thought the same. I felt like I'd seen this character before, but it finally became clear to me when he said 'I left my friend at death'

Okay fine, only because it tied up everything and actually told some story is because I'll bump it up to 8/10. It does kinda have a lot of different views at once, and has them unique, I'll give them that. It was hard to watch but towards the end it became way more smoother.
I would not recommend most anime people to watch this, but I do sure think it is valid to like this show... This episode did end this anime on it's good side, when some anime and manga can't even finish. Thank you for the time wasted.

I was so confused becasuse 12 year old boy killing some man because he didn't want to share a book?? O_O Maaan what
Until someone mentioned it's a different timeline, maybe alternative version lol
Thanks God because I genuinely thought that something is not adding here xDD Now opening scene when RafaΕ‚ has different height makes sense
I must say I kinda cannot accept what RafaΕ‚ did but somewhat now what they wanted to show, but it changed the way I look at him, he was just a precious young boy who died for what he believed Ima cry :( A wonderful character...Even with that last episode lol
What a rollercoaster of emotions, I gasped when they mentioned Copernicus at the end. As a Pole, I 100% approve this and proud that author of manga decided to honor my country this way and MADHOUSE animated this so beautifully. Some believe Copernicus was a German, but most that he was a Pole with German connections. I thought that this anime should take place in Germany maybe but it's based on Copernicus ancestors, not him which is great and I finally understand it. You were all right, the Earth is moving, long live the science <3
Can I also say that I loved the details, like Polish texts in some places like Jolanta's book, RafaΕ‚'s letter, the names etc? It melts my heart.
Moral: It is worth fighting for what you believe. You can literally change the world someday even if they don't believe you. Also, learning is a gift.

The storytelling are a bit bland, sometimes it's boring and sometimes it's interesting, maybe I already read about this history and when it adapted to Anime, it's become predictable plot which make it a bit boring.

Artstyle and illustration are not bad tho, it has some sort of medieval theme.

Animations and graphics is average.

OP/ED and Soundtrack is not that banger, just average

Overall 5.75/10
