Is there an equivalent in the west for the "Anime OP/ED song industry"?

I had the idea for this thread after reading a Tweet saying that the fact that NETFLIX's Devil May Cry used Limp Bizkit as an opening theme was a tacit admission that no modern songs would serve as an OP.
Years ago I've heard similar things about modern movies pivoting to using older music.
Part of it might be due to "the death of the monoculture", where there's no choice but to use older songs, because no modern ones are "universally recognizable".

So, is there something like that?

Usually they are just composed/created for the show or at least that's how I assume they are made for such tv series as Game of Thrones etc. These also have their openings as west ain't having such culture with animated series, Disney songs which are just famous and ain't any different than just typical song insert from anime, many anime songs weren't meant to be for an anime from the beginning, while the others were specifically made for a title as usually they are chosen from few-several or more [no idea about the quantity] of proposals for such stuff.

If you want a song which sounds like an opening to an anime, than here are just 2 random songs I can already give, with proper effort it isn't difficult to find many bands or songs which could do the job for an opening and ending, first is from 10 years ago [although their official is from 2020 but I found their record from 2014 in other channel, while the other is from 2023]. And "universally recognizable" I can't say that about anime openings and endings for 90% of titles, just a small part which made something unique, if you would play AMQ you would notice how hard it is to recognise some ops, the prime example are just Akeboshi Rocket's song hell know which is which.

To me, anime OP/ED songs industry is pretty much killing two birds with one stone. You got anime adaptations from mangas, light novels or video games which promote the original source material (or as an original anime on its own if the show itself is the original source material), and anime shows also promote the artists and their new songs - as most of us anime fans know, majority of their songs ended up having full versions and released in albums and/or PVs.

Such industry isn't something I see appearing in western countries. Not only the quality of music is decreasing over the years, but TV show formats in the west had hardly any songs that go over 1 min mark or over. Mostly it's just a tune that lasts for 10-30 seconds with some exceptions. Anime since the dawn of time had always OP/ED songs for shows (shorts might be an exception here). So the music culture between the two regions are too divided and I just can't see anime OP/ED song industry can ever be copied in the west.

Ah, that part was unrelated and more about the artists than anything.
I meant it as in "Most people nowadays couldn't say what the top 3 songs/artists at the moment are", and the person who heard the top 1 album has no idea of what the top 2 album is, and vice-versa.

There is no more stuff "that everyone is aware of" instead of just every group having their artists and songs.
The closest thing to that would be Drake or Taylor Swift, but they've been at it for almost two decades at this point, so not really "new artists".

@thewiru Ah okay,

Well I am not around American music so I wouldn't be able to tell you anything about that not to mention that I don't know Taylor's and Drake's music beside their names. I never check albums so I don't even know the albums of artists I actually know, here in Poland it is changing from time to time. Usually Podsiadło used to be among the top known aswell as Sanah or at least that's how I thought. You might know already Podsiadło as he was in Cyberpunk anime [Ending and 2 insert songs] but there's new artists such as Bambi whom I never heard of and suddenly she's among the top, same with Mata or Taco [about Taco I've heard only because my buddies spoke something about him].
And I wouldn't be able to tell you whom is at the top right now in Poland, what song is at the top or anything like that, not even a chance for that.

I think the same goes for Japan too, according to wiki [top selling artist article] one of the top is AKB48 I only know that there's anime about them, but I ain't able to name you an opening or ending made by them, Mr. Children whom is among the top selling never heard of that group nor their songs [from searching they made something for Doraemon and One Piece?], Ayumi Hamasaki whom I ain't knowing almost never been used for anime.
Perhaps in Japan it would be the same case as for me with Polish artists.

Everyone are aware of people whom are making stuff for anime because of watching anime but that isn't equal to being top of Japanese music scene [per stats in services such as radio, youtube, spotify, soundcloud/selling at overall/selling at year etc.], maybe in Korea it would be easier to do as these K-Pop groups are highly popular, but they might not be at the top of their nation, no idea.

Yeah, this is how things are for TV shows as far as I understand. Usually these sorts of theme songs don't have lyrics either.
Avatar character is Gabriel from Gabriel DropOut.

I'm not sure what you mean by industry and I only recently heard about Netflix adapting Devil May Cry.
