So does this THIRTY year old man not know that there are many other materials act as electrical insulators like leather, wood, glass etc...????

And I don't quite get why he couldn't manipulate earth and water (yet?). So far, it just looks like a form of kinesis where anything physical or existing can be controlled by anyone with enough willpower.

Shion's magic is really developing nicely. Feel really bad for Marie poor girl just wants to get stronger and protect those she cares about.

Instead of testing with dangerous elements like fire and thunder, shouldn't Shion test on more basic elements like water and air first?

Shion's perverted smile really reminds me of Rudeus... lol

Anyway, I'm glad there's progress to the MC's research, and even got a helping hand from his dear father. What a lovely and understanding family.

But even with that happiness, there's sadness.
We still get character developments in this episode, which made this a great one.

P.S. Even an old man won't know something he didn't study before. lol (still underrated, but I'm enjoying this series...)
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

There is something in this episode I dont get: How could the girls do magic?? And without training?? And be better than Shion???
I thought only Shion was doing the magic training... Am I missing something?

@dozdonix

They can do magic because they are women. That's the only explanation. They are the tough ones in this universe, MC is a pussy incarnate anyway, as is tradition in most anime.

Basically, writer is a twat who can't write good characters, so is just making shit up as lamely as possible. The female characters are supposed to be smarter and physically stronger (sister), to "protect" the pussy MC. That's the role of the sister. I'm guessing the friend might be a love interest who doing spell casting alongside when they go for adventure and joins their "party". Friend will also be used as a teacher, coming up with special spells MC can't, to teach him how it's done. That's how most of these stories go.

In-fact, this anime is following the textbook of shit anime like "The Irregular at Magic High School", where most basic generic spells you've seen in every game or anime possible, are pointlessly explained using bullshit "science" that isn't needed. Who the fuck wants to remember all this pointless shit?

Like I said in my "The Irregular at Magic High School" review, these anime follow the logic of JRPG's with pointless magic systems that serve no purpose whatsoever than to pointlessly complicate simple, generic shit you've seen a million times before.

At-least they've dropped the incest angle in this anime, the only reason I'm not dropping it yet (that and there aren't many Isekai anime worth watching, airing right now). I was fine with third episode, at-least something interesting happened for a few mins with goblin attacks. Very original btw, another anime with Goblins, in an anime trying to create a "unique" magic system. Shows you the height of creativity in these writers.

Still going to rate this 1/10 at the end. It doesn't help that I'm watching the dub and the MC is voiced by a grown woman who is probably a chainsmoker. You can hear her "aunty-voice" leaking through every few lines.

Well, the Practical Guide to Learning Magic in a World That has never Known It. Written by Shion, assuming he doesn't burn his fingers off or get elecrocuted.

Oh my god what a useless bore
I don't want to listen to these bland stock characters talk about dumb magic spells for 25 minutes against a stock background. What garbage

you can listen to original voicing and sub (if you can read) without noticing any difference ( I wasn't) then you will feel better for your self

Marie should be training magic as well. Why would only the MC do it when she can control it?! She will be magic swordswoman.

ay kinda seems like the writer tried to come up with a good reason for being able to project magical energy but he couldnt so he just said look it works with the girls lol. otherwise its still pretty enjoyable, I mean yes if you arent interested in the process of making something from nothing your prob bored to death, but i like to see what the author comes up with, even though he uses some shortcuts like the one I mentioned at first.^^

It annoyed me a little that it was her sister and that other girl who discovered how to emit that mana from her hand instead of Shion, because I always want Shion to be in the foreground, other than that this episode was good

Damn, I really don't give a shit. I try to but forcing it is never enjoyable. Also, watching this is so fucking bad when you keep in mind that he is a 30 year old loser.

@LeElFreil Exactly this. She can use magic to launch attacks from the blade of a sword. Hopefully they suggest it soon.

I couldn't tell if I missed an episode at first because the dad was suddenly incredibly supportive.

Such a sudden change from last time when he seemed to never want the MC to use magic again almost.

nice methodical tests Shion going through, discovering magic mechanics.
That's a great supportive dad. Unexpected but good Marie development.

Dad's suddenly so very supportive. Cute, but felt a bit too quick? Last episode he was against magic but decided to back down and now he's basically an enthusiastic sidekick!

It's good to see a show where MC doesn't quickly learn to shoot fireballs out of arse. Developing magic for the first time looks genuine. Like, that's likely what first magicians would be doing.

Feels sad for the sis. Let's hope she'll excel in swordsmanship as she gets older.

Shion's magical research has begun, though his father Gawain is always at every step of the way supervising his son on the magic output, which is nice to see. And this unfortunately puts a dent on Marie's ego because she could not protect Emma, and trains on her own accord. And as much as Shion is able to make some progress, Marie is clearly struggling on her own strength, which eats into her own pride.

Shion forging ahead with lightning magic, though materials are scarce to find the exact ones he needs, and Gawain would honour his son's requests on whatever he desires when it comes to money, so long as Shion is able to make some progress. But in regard to Marie, it only feels as if that Shion is slowly distancing away from her with his magic, and that jealousy hit a snag during the goblin attack.

At least the siblings made up and reconciled on their inadequacies, that shows the love remaining between the two.

Even knowing what is hinted at here and in the beginning of E05, my feeling for their relationship hasn’t changed because they were raised as siblings. Still weird energy and blurring lines, IMO. So, while I’m enjoying the magical discovery component of the anime, I’m still very much annoyed by that aspect.

Especially because they’re still children (even if one was formerly 30). I would have preferred a mostly platonic relationship happening with more focus on magical discovery and possibly action as the side genre.
